Pockets

Wasn't sure whether this should go in S&B or Feminism tbh...

I realised today that DP's swim shorts have THREE functional pockets in them.

His SWIM. SHORTS.

THREE. FUCKING. POCKETS.

Whenever somebody compliments me on my outfit at work I reply with "thanks...and look, it has pockets!!", or "thanks...if only it had pockets!"

Tell me about clothes-with-pockets you have known, or, preferably, that are available to buy now Grin

I have a lovely esprit dress with pockets.
Things have got better though I think, I remember 20-25 years ago struggling to find a coat with proper pockets, or smart trousers for work with pockets.

thecatfromjapan · 27/08/2017 22:12

I think you're a sister of my heart! Smile

I, too, think pockets are a feminist issue.

I had a lovely conversation in Cos, with one of the sales staff, who was also a fashion student, about the fact that Cos do pockets and how important that was.

NC4now · 27/08/2017 22:50

Oh, I have a wonderful pinafore that I wear for work with pockets big enough to fit my notepad in.

I feel like Lois Lane when I wear it. (Not sure where Superman keeps his notepad).

BearFoxBear · 27/08/2017 22:52

Yes, pockets are a feminist issue Grin

Joanie Clothing are great for dresses and skirts with pockets.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2017 22:56

I've just bought two charity shop cotton skirts that have pockets, and they've been a revelation. Have since been trawling the shops for more pockets, but there's hardly anything out there.

burnishedsilver · 27/08/2017 23:01

I've just taken two dresses to a tailor to have the pockets removed.

I love pockets! I also point them out excitedly whenever I get a compliment on a dress with them. Tbh I don't often carry much in the pockets of a dress, but I like to know they're there, and I like standing with my hands in them. I've never thought about why, but I think maybe it's because it feels... nonchalant and empowered. Less girly. I've got dresses and skirts with pockets from Cos, Fever and Seasalt in the last few years.
Outdoor gear is better for pockets - I carry lots of stuff in my pockets when I'm out walking - but I was still irritated that my hiking trousers come with fewer pockets than the male version.
The only problem I have with pockets is remembering to empty them before washing clothes.

Itscurtainsforyou · 28/08/2017 00:26

Love clothes with pockets. Definitely a feminist issue Wink

Singap0reSling · 28/08/2017 00:41

Love pockets (even though I rarely use them for anything other than my phone). Especially in skirts or dresses. I have several Cos and Whistles dresses that have pockets, it always feels like such a bonus Smile

phoolani · 28/08/2017 00:47

It is honestly one of the reasons I love cos so much; they do pockets and they're PROPER pockets. Deep and satisfying, mmmm..

Grawp · 28/08/2017 03:18

God yes, I love pockets too. It definitely endears me to a dress/jumpsuit when I'm trying on if there are pockets.

LunaTheCat · 28/08/2017 07:31

Toast is wonderful for pockets - even better if they are in sale.
I am lusting after their pinafores nad apron dresses but I fear they look much better on their skinny thin models than me with my FF's

MurielsBottom · 28/08/2017 08:17

A few months ago I bought two pairs of trousers from Weird Fish. The thing that pleases me the most is the pockets! Proper deep pockets. I love them. I find most of the jeans you can buy only have tiny pockets now, not useful for anything.

bingohandjob · 28/08/2017 15:37

Good for pockets: Monki, Joanie, ASOS denim dresses, Rohan but my God, I crave proper size pockets and cut at an angle that they are practical, rather than a feature and, for some dresses/trousers with a zip (Rohan good for this with their trousers). My new M&S jean pockets won't even accommodate my hands for a Status Quo style stance let alone my phone and keys, but my husband is able to carry phone, keys, fags, lighter in his two front pockets. WTF is that all about?

dementedpixie · 28/08/2017 15:42

Yes I get a bit pissed off with the stupid crappy tiny pockets that ladies jeans have. Can just about fit a lip balm and a tissue and that's about it. I want my phone to fit properly so it doesn't fall in the floor when I go for a pee! Grin

WoodliceAreIdiots · 28/08/2017 17:05

I bought a lovely midi skirt from Cos a few weeks ago with big foldy drapey bits and also pockets!
I've started making my own clothes so now I can put pockets in everything Smile

Geographytrainee · 28/08/2017 17:11

I love pockets so much.... My wedding dress had pockets! 😀

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 28/08/2017 17:18

Lack of pockets in trousers is the bane of my life.

I carry 2 sets of keys around with me at work plus other bits I accumulate as I go. I am satisfied these days if I can at least get back pockets which seems ridiculous.

Decent sized pockets and belt hooks should not be added extras.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/08/2017 17:20

Has anybody seen this in Cos? I really like it, but their stuff is usually ridiculously long on me. Has anybody tried it on and can tell me how tall you are and where it fell on you?

YouAndYourFloofyCatNose · 28/08/2017 17:22

Oooh I love pockets, but the big deep ones on the front of preferably pinafore dresses - not trouser pockets. I don't wear trousers.

NC4now I like the notebook in pocket thing, I used to keep pens in my hair at work Grin

From a practical view, I need pockets as use crutches a lot in the house. I've actually considering buying a little apron with pockets like you see waiters etc wearing. Sometimes I tuck things into my bra so I can bring them upstairs/downstairs (phones, biscuits, books maybe a cat etc). I really should get a pocket apron. With frills, possibly.

LawrenceSMarlow · 31/08/2017 07:00

Sounds like I'll have to visit Cos Grin Thanks for the recommendations!

Remus - I'm not absolutely positive (though I kind of am!), i've got this skirt in white and I'm 5'3. It sits slightly lower on the calf for me (and for me looks nicer for it than on the model). It's not massive long or owt.

WillowWeeping · 01/09/2017 21:36

I caught my 12 year old lecturing her younger brother about the disappointing lack of pockets on girls clothes.

Totally a feminist issue!

Theycalledmethewildrose · 01/09/2017 22:36

My five year old moans about the lack pockets in her clothes so much that when we find shorts or jeans that have them, leaves items sticking out just so she can show she has pockets!

I have a dress from Cos that I kept only because it had pockets. The colour isn't great on me but it is so useful. I wonder why they aren't included generally? They can't cost too much, is it because women are supposed to like 'clean lines', fear of adding bulk etc?

Or is inserting pockets harder for a designer to work around in this era of disposable clothes?
