A good comprehensive brush set

can anyone recommend a set of makeup brushes. I feel I need to invest as all the tutorials online seem to use brushes and get good results with them. Definitely needing eyes, something for setting powder, blusher, etc.

I had a look at Sigma brushes as that is what they all seem to use on YouTube, I saw the price and nearly fainted. They were £154 for a set.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 19:18

Sigma are at the cheaper end.

I like Laura mercier as all rounders but they are £££. I also like Shu Uemera brushes but they've pulled out of the UK Angry.

At the cheaper end of the spectrum Real Techniques make nice face brushes but I don't rate their eye offerings.

MAC make good eye brushes (217 especially) but they are also £££.

Zoeva get good ratings for their brushes, plus prices are very reasonable. I've never tried them though.

Mac and bobbi brown they are not as pricey as Sigma. You are better buying them individually as often with a set you don't need all the brushes. On Youtube they are often sponsored to use products and they end up as with the makeup using too many products that you don't need. Look on ebay they sell named brands at cheaper prices.

Notmybag · 16/08/2017 19:30

thanks, quite a few I fancied were mac ones. Poss Bobbi Brown I see your point about buying separately - any blogs on the most useful ones? I had some real techniques and some eco bamboo somethings but both were quite shite.

They are the cheaper end?! Oh my word. I am naive and just dipping a toe into doing decent make up on myself.

Online beauty mag 'Get the gloss' their June edition has 15 beauty bloggers telling you what their favourite brushes are. Also on Youtube look up Wayne Goss he is great and honest. He can use one brush for the entire face! He has his own line of brushes but they are expensive but he also advises on other one's too.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 20:03

vasseve, MAC & Bobbi Brown are more expensive than Sigma. An individual brush from either MAC or BB is can easily cost you £30.

A set of 12 Sigma brushes for less money than a set of 6 from BB. Neither are discount websites, both are current stock, so I'm not fudging prices.

Sorry for typos

StealingYourWiFi · 16/08/2017 20:05

Used to be a big fan of MAC brushes, also love Zoeva but my DP bought me some from GWA and honestly they are hands down the brushes that I use the most! Plus they come in loads of designs.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 20:08

I've been collecting my brushes for years (20+) so the cost doesn't seem as bad. I think I must have some of the original RT brushes as I've seen people say that more recent versions have been poor quality (shedding hairs etc). I've never had a problem with any of mine.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 20:09

Beware of counterfeits on eBay and Amazon.

NotMeNoNo · 16/08/2017 20:13

I was just at a Bobbi brown counter today and they have the brush set reduced to £105.

travis45 · 16/08/2017 20:14

Zoeva

vasseve1 · 16/08/2017 20:23

NomDePlume I was talking about individual brushes not sets and not all the brushes are fake on ebay just read the profile of the sellers and they are cheaper too. No need to be so aggresive in trying to prove a point...

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/08/2017 20:25

I have expensive brushes but much prefer Real Techniques brushes.

Ollivander84 · 16/08/2017 20:32

Royal & langnickel
Spectrum
Zoeva

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 20:37

I didn't say all brushes on eBay were fake, just to beware of counterfeits on there. It is famous for people selling dodgy goods.

Re individual brushes vs sets. Sigma brushes are still cheaper than BB brushes when bought singly. For example

Sigma slanted eyeliner brush £12.50

Bobbi Brown version £25.50

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/08/2017 20:38

Sorry, the BB brush is £25, not £25.50. Apologies

vasseve1 · 16/08/2017 20:46

Unless you buy a bobbi brown on ebay a set of five authentic brushes in a set is selling for £10 one of many examples. Eyeliner brush £4.99. I was referring to a Sigma set being expensive if you don't need all the brushes and bought from a shop not ebay. See original posting

Notmybag · 16/08/2017 20:57

Yes, my real techniques brushes shed hairs. (TK Maxx)
My Bobbi brown bronzer type brush has lots of briken hairs and now feels spikey on my face so needs replacing.

I think I should perhaps make a list of Mac ones I'd like and buy them over a period of time.

You could buy from a cosmetic outlet store there is one owned by Estee Lauder ( MAC'S parent company) where everything on sale is genuine. There are a few dotted around.

vasseve1 · 16/08/2017 21:17

Just spoken to my beauty collegue and she reminded me of E.L.F a lot cheaper but really good value with great reviews.

Notmybag · 16/08/2017 21:23

OMG - Wayne Goss on youtube - I have been living under a stone, how did I miss his tips!!
