Want to go down the Pixie cut route again ...

But I'm not sure if I'm brave enough. I have had short hair before, 4 years ago I grew it out again and now have wavy, slightly curly on a good day, hair to my shoulders. I'm 3st heavier than when I had it last time so I'm worried my face will be too round and jowl'y (if that's a word). DH has also said he'd 'prefer me not too' as he didn't think it feminine (he's pretty good generally at never interfering with how I look). Really unsure as I did have times when I felt un-feminine but I had a 1 year old then and v little time to spend on myself, was tired. Now I have a 6 year old and some more time to myself to dress and do make up as well. Pic attached of 4 years ago and also of now.

It sounds like you are happier with your hair short.
My hair is short though not quite as short as yours in the first photo, if it ever gets a bit longer people always say it looks nice, but it doesn't look like me iykwim.
It's your hair have it how you like it. Ignore the nay sayers feminine ffs!Hmm

Letitrain · 10/08/2017 10:37

It looks lovely short. Get it cut. It's liberating.

Huntzberger · 10/08/2017 10:39

Gosh, there's some very odd comments on here. It's just hair!

FWIW OP, I think you look striking and very pretty with short hair. I spent my 20s with a variety of crops/pixies/buzz cuts whatever you want to call it, then grew it out at 30 when I was pregnant thinking that's what 'mothers' looked like. Never felt like me. Just felt plain and dragged down by it. Had it chopped again a year ago and have never looked back - happy to come back in a few months to confirm that.

I think there are some people that just don't like short hair on women, much like there are some people that just don't like tattoos, or piercings. If they don't like short hair on anyone their opinion on what it looks like on you isn't important.

Sukitakeitoff · 10/08/2017 10:54

I'm really surprised at some of the responses - nothing about the first photo is remotely masculine or ageing Confused

You could be a model in the first picture. Admittedly some of that is the make-up and smile, but the short haircut looks amazing on you.

And although you say you've put on weight since then, it doesn't seem to show in your face at all.

Squashit · 10/08/2017 11:21

I look so much better with short hair and think many other women do too.

Famous people who look better with shorter hair off the top of my head-
Jean Seberg
Halle Berry
Liz Fraser
Sinead O'Connor (with a very short pixie rather than buzz cut)
Frankie with lopsided do..
Mary Creagh
When you look at them with longer hair they look fine but so much better with a pixie.

Like all hairstyles there are many variations on a pixie and you have to experiment to get the right one for your face shape and features.

However, for some women short hair does suit them best. It is not about weight/size of nose etc. OP your picture shows short hair really works for you and you have lovely features that will be enhanced by it if you choose to pixie again.

Ignore this outdated idea of 'feminine' bandied around here by certain posters- it belongs in a different age.

You look loads better with the pixie cut. Your hair now drags your face down and washes you out. The pixie really suits you.

Go for it.

I love short hair on women.

What's the worst that can happen? You hate it. Meh, hair grows.

Life's too short for boring hair.

nina2b, I don't generally tend to take things on Mumsnet to heart but I feel like your responses are incredibly negative and a bit aggressive? It's not the most important topic in the world, it's just a haircut after all, but saying things like 'I have never seen anyone look better with short hair' and then being rude to MargotlovedTom1 just because the picture she posted doesn't have what you consider to be the right colour is not on really.

I can think straight up of so many beautiful women with 'crop' hairdos (and yes I'll use that terminology if I want, it doesn't create any negative connotations to me and so I'll use whatever terminology I wish!). Halle Berry, Demi Moore, Michelle Williams to name 3. I could only hope to aspire to as nice a haircut as they.

Anyway, that's just my piece. Thanks to all for their comments. I believe I'll go for it at my next apt and have the colour darkened and as it only took me a year to grow out the last time, if I decide to grow it out again it'll be simple enough.

I've just gone short again after growing it out a bit and remembering I prefer it short. Personally I think your short cut looks amazing and I'm wondering if the people who think you look younger and fresher with longer hair are looking at the same photos as I am!

Op, I think you look amazing with the pixie cut, go for it!

Had mine cut short after years of long hair and it looks and feels so much nicer and ppl have said I look younger as well.

I'd say go for it and ditto the darker hair, suits your colouring!

You will look FAB!!

And whoever said they have never seen short hair suiting ppl must know a lot of ppl with a crappy cut. A good hairdresser will know what short style will suit someone and cut accordingly.

OliviaBenson · 10/08/2017 14:13

I much prefer the pixie!! And short hair is very feminine, you look very pretty. I have lots of friends that suit short hair better but have this idea of it being masculine. Madness!!

Ginnifer Goodwin is a good example and she's had slightly longer pixie cuts too.

slinkysaluki · 10/08/2017 15:40

You have a beautiful face, the longer hair doesn't do you justice. You look much more striking with it short 😋
