Want to go down the Pixie cut route again ...

But I'm not sure if I'm brave enough. I have had short hair before, 4 years ago I grew it out again and now have wavy, slightly curly on a good day, hair to my shoulders. I'm 3st heavier than when I had it last time so I'm worried my face will be too round and jowl'y (if that's a word). DH has also said he'd 'prefer me not too' as he didn't think it feminine (he's pretty good generally at never interfering with how I look). Really unsure as I did have times when I felt un-feminine but I had a 1 year old then and v little time to spend on myself, was tired. Now I have a 6 year old and some more time to myself to dress and do make up as well. Pic attached of 4 years ago and also of now.

Agree with FlorenceLyons that if you're carrying a bit of extra weight now (not that you look like you are), then the very cropped 'gamine' look might be hard to pull off. That's why I suggested something with a little bit more length.

Squashit · 09/08/2017 10:15

This one in terms of colouring and style would suit. A bit more volume on top will balance extra weight yet still flatter your features.

You are wearing more makeup in the first pic which really lifts your look. Think you should hang on to your longer hair but colour it to a darker shade.

SleepFreeZone · 09/08/2017 13:16

How about lightening it with highlights? Looking at the photos I think you suit lighter hair more than darker.

nina2b · 09/08/2017 13:19

Longer hair is more soft and feminine.

nina2b · 09/08/2017 13:21

Your length is lovely.

BigGreenOlives · 09/08/2017 13:22

The short is much more fun.

I don't get the need to appear feminine, I/you am/are female, we don't need to be labelled as such.

SukiTheDog · 09/08/2017 13:30

Short looks fabulous. You've lovely colouring and bone structure so I think you can go as short as you'd like.

nina2b · 09/08/2017 13:43

Why should a hairstyle be "fun"??

Squashit · 09/08/2017 13:46

cringe at 'soft and feminine'

CurlyhairedAssassin · 09/08/2017 13:50

Being honest, I find the short cut too severe-looking. It really is very short all over so looks quite masculine. I know you said you have thick hair but I really think that some length on the top/front would look much better.

polyhymnia · 09/08/2017 15:20

Short is much more flattering IMO.

Lovely 'soft and feminine' hairstyle you linked to there nina

Splendid.

Cocolepew · 09/08/2017 15:52

I like the short it really suits you.
Mines like this atm.
And it's a myth you need a thin, tiny face for a pixie cut Hmm

I think the short hair looks great on you but it's hard to compare because your mood and prep are so different between the two pics. Do you have a pic of you with longer hair wear you're more ready for a night out or you with the shorter hair where you're more having a sofa day?

nina2b · 09/08/2017 16:59

Splendid.

Hardly. It is not long enough. Anyhow, check her face which is why I chose her.

Squashit · 09/08/2017 17:55

Okaaaaaay 🙄

hugoagogo · 09/08/2017 18:00

I think you might look nice with a fringe.

ontherightpath · 09/08/2017 18:09

The short crop is very ageing. The longer style just needs a colour, trim and good blow dry.

MiniCooperLover · 09/08/2017 22:05

I've had fringes in the past but I hate hair touching my face and I'm just completely unable to blow dry, I really struggle holding the hair dryer up for much time, I think that's why I have such good memories of the crop do. Hmm ...

Because your blonder bits blend into the sofa behind you, when I look at your longer hair photo it makes me think of a Jane Eyre/Nicole Kidman in The Hours sort of style.

A crop would look much better IMO. Go for it - it'll grow back anyway.

The hair in the photograph above is dark. There is no point of comparison.

nina2b · 10/08/2017 10:10

The word crop has negative connotations which is why the preferred term is " pixie cut". I have never seen anyone look better with short hair.

nina2b · 10/08/2017 10:12

When people come onto this forum to ask about having their hair cut and then do it, I wonder what they really feel some months down the line? They never return to say.
