This pale face thing

First noticed it at a family wedding a couple of years ago where, in a photo line up of lovely ladies, one was so pale she almost glowed transparent, like geisha girl skin. Since then I've seen a few - they stick out like vampires (think Twighlight). I was wondering if it was some trowelling on of various foundations or what! It doesn't look deliberate like a goth and in fake light looks normal, it's just when they step into natural light. Some even look pale green.

Do you mean you see them in photos? If so they're probably wearing a foundation like EL Double Wear which gives ghost face in photos. It contains a physical spf (rather than a chemcial one) that creates a geisha like flashback.

paganmolloy · 08/08/2017 14:16

No not just in photos, I see them everywhere.

Some of us are Irish and just don't tan! Can't be arsed with fake tan so pale it is.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/08/2017 14:23

Heavily made up? It's the white HD powder stuff I think.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 08/08/2017 14:24

Or are you just really used to seeing people with fake tan you've forgotten what normal pale skin looks like?

ThinkIlikeit · 08/08/2017 14:26

Funnily enough I noticed this among a few young girls yesterday shopping in the city centre. Never seen such white flawless skin before so assumed it was a new fashion look.

ThinkIlikeit · 08/08/2017 14:26

Agree it was geisha style.

DeannaTroika · 08/08/2017 14:27

This. People always say how pale I look, especially in photos. It's just I'm the only one without fake tan and/or bronzers etc.

It's ok to be pale!

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 14:28

No not just in photos, I see them everywhere.

Can other people see them too or is it just you?

I love that pale is now a fashion option too. For so long bronzed skin was the default.

AlpacasPackOwls · 08/08/2017 14:29

I use the palest foundation as I have pale skin. Can't say I have noticed people purposely making their face pale though.

karalime · 08/08/2017 14:35

Some of us are just white.

Also digital cameras usually try to balance light levels so to show everyone else clearly the whitest people can look garish. Trying to get a photo of me with any of my black or Asian friends in a dark room is near impossible.

burnishedsilver · 08/08/2017 14:48

I think it's that people have stopped tanning. These heavily made up people used to be orange.

user53592952153 · 08/08/2017 14:55

Some of us are just naturally the colour of daisies and never, ever tan.

TowerRose · 08/08/2017 15:03

Much like PP, some us us are just naturally really pale

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 15:04

I think what it is as well is pales foundation coupled with lots of strobing highlighters to create an otherworldly glow.

missjoanie · 08/08/2017 15:04

I don't think that's what the OP means. I think it's overuse of highlighters in their contouring kits! It does make skin look a very odd colour in natural light.

missjoanie · 08/08/2017 15:05

Cross post there Clam!

HashiAsLarry · 08/08/2017 16:03

I'm like Casper the friendly ghost normally. Randomly tanned this year. But in wedding photos etc there are always lovely people with normal skin tones and me, some sort of spectre of death.

Doggoslothlady · 08/08/2017 16:39

I'm very very pale naturally, almost see through!!! Even the palest foundation is too orange. In photos my face glows like the moon , I can't help it ! Though I have had some very nice compliments about having pale skin 😁 I would look very strange with a tan.

picklemepopcorn · 08/08/2017 16:53

I had a passport photo taken, has to be against a white backdrop. I had my hair up, a cream dress, and clearly wasn't wearing enough makeup. Basically you can barely see me. But I don't glow.

Housewife2010 · 08/08/2017 16:57

I saw an incredibly pale girl the other day. I think it is pale makeup.

MissBabbs · 08/08/2017 17:03

I think in older people (though also younger too) it's laser treatment which removes broken veins and brown age/sun spots.
I had it done and the brown spot's skin sort of crumbles off gradually so your brown spots eg on the backs of hands just go. IT's great.
But I lived in the New York for a time and many women were ghostly. They lose all of their 'complexion' eg rosy cheeks. I noticed it in women from places like Florida where they must have been tanned for much of their lives but were now a flat pale.
But it is also the good quality of modern foundation too imv.

Fekko · 08/08/2017 17:03

I see quite a lot of ME women around here with wee peely-wally faces peeking out of large headscarves and loads of black eyeliner/mascara.

As a person of no colour I find it amusing to meet people even whiter than I am.

nina2b · 08/08/2017 17:05

I think what the OP is talking about is the ghastly contouring and highlighting thing. The application requires the use of a small trowel. They look so ridiculous.
