Gold stud earrings

Help - SIL wants gold stud earrings for her birthday. We have very different taste and I always find it really hard to pick things for her.

We've got a budget of about £100 (big birthday).

She tends to like things that are neat and quite simple.

It would be great if you can tell they're expensive good quality, even if it's just by the packaging, as with some I've looked at, it's hard to tell whether they're H Samuels or cost £300.
Not keen in gold jewellery. Can you tell?

I think the first are the best, but not overly keen on any. I'm not a big fan of gold either though. If someone asked me for gold stud earrings I'd assume they meant plain simple studs, like you get your ears pierced with.

Can you ask her to send some some ideas? It's a lot to spend if you don't know exactly what she wants and she won't be able to exchange earrings.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/08/2017 14:29

I have a pair of tiny gold cubes which reflect the light attractively, but they were bought from the jeweller who has long retired.

OCSockOrphanage · 08/08/2017 14:32

Mine are like these. here

heidiwine · 08/08/2017 14:33

I like very plain simple things and am quite fussy but always grateful for a gift and would never ask to exchange or return. I rarely ask for anything I'll be fussy about though so maybe your SiL is different from me. But If I asked for gold studs I'd want something like this:

I wouldn't want anything other than yellow gold and I would really appreciate it if someone took the trouble to show me some pics before they bought.

sequins DH thought the same about just wanting plain studs but surely no one wears those except when they've just had their ears pierced.

Your suggestion of asking her for more details is a v sensible one if DH hadn't left it quite so late getting ideas for a birthday this weekend!

I've found these Dinny Hall nugget ones which I think are nice and would be less of a risk than spending £100 on some. www.dinnyhall.com/earrings/studs/bijou-heart-stud-earrings-2081

OCSockOrphanage the cubes are nice. I might see if there are any of those around.

The first pair are available for £65 on Amazon.

I noticed this when I was buying earrings a couple of Christmases ago. The gold plate earrings on the JL website are usually sold under a different name on Amazon for significantly less.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/08/2017 14:47

I think the Dinny Hall ones are lovely

jennymac · 08/08/2017 14:55

The Dinny Hall ones are the nicest so far I think. I don't wear gold jewellry but saw a gorgeous pair of gold earrings in a local craft shop near where I live . They were pricey at £140 but look expensive. Would there be anything like that near where you live? You tend to get better quality and more individual looking pieces if they are made by local jewellers.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 14:56

You can find good stuff on Etsy at a better price than in the big shops.

ClamBakeSnake · 08/08/2017 15:00

These for example would be my kind of thing. Plus they're solid gold rather than vermeil like the ones you've linked to.

SequinsOnEverything · 08/08/2017 17:08

I like the dinny hall ones, the cubes and the gold bar ones on etsy. All minimalist but a bit more stylish than a plain stud.

papersmile · 08/08/2017 17:26

I really like simple jewellery and I really like the Dinny Hall studs.

NewPantsforaNewYear · 08/08/2017 17:41

I have looked at Etsy and Folksy but didn't see anything that grabs me.

There seems to be no consistency in prices for real gold, gold plate or vermeil. Most frustrating

I have got one shop I can look at in town tomorrow. At the moment I feel like giving her an iou and telling her to choose her own.

I like the hammered JL ones followed by the DH ones, but think they look really small.

As its a big birthday maybe something with her birthstone perhaps?

What about these, they are more of the traditional studs I think of

I tried to get her a bangle with a peridot but it was out of stock.

DH spoke to her this evening and it turns out she does just want little gold balls. I can't see the point of spending a lot of money on something that will look like she's just had her ears pierced Help!

'Hey SIL I know you told your brother you'd like simple gold studs but I thought something a bit jazzier, something a bit Pat Butcher, would be more fun'

When we're buying for someone else we have to put our own taste aside, if she wants little gold balls give her little gold balls! Grin

squoosh · 08/08/2017 23:15

The Dinny Hall ones are lovely.

Try Alex Monroe

I know you're right. Tempted to get the DH ones as they're nearly little gold balls.

Wonder if she is thinking of another ear hole Hmm. However, I like your first choice out of all i.e-BB 18ct Yellow Gold Knot Stud Earrings.
But of course if SIL is looking for just plane ball earrings, I think you should go for them so that she would not be disappointed on her b'day.

Lucked · 08/08/2017 23:30

I might have to buy the Danny Hall ones, they are lovely.
