Is anyone constantly uncomfortable?

Hairq · 04/08/2017 15:21

This is worse than ever today because I have PMT and my already sizeable breasts are like rocks, but if I'm honest it's a constant problem.

I am constantly uncomfortable in my clothes. I want to rip all my bras off even though they are the correct size and fit because they bother me so much. I wear skinny jeans because more relaxed styles make me look 2 sizes bigger, but they are so uncomfortable - and they're not too small - the next size up just fall down which adds a whole new dimension to being uncomfortable. My knickers constantly give me a wedgie, tops are always too tight over my boobs because they're massive. If I get something to fit over them it makes the rest of me look huge because it's too big and billowy everywhere else. I constantly feel in turn strangled and drowned by my clothes and the feeling of the tightness (even though they fit - it's how they're meant to fit, they're just uncomfortable styles - apart from the breasts issue with tips). I feel like giving in and living in tracksuit bottoms, pull on sports bras (which I can't even wear for the gym because they don't support my MASSIVE MONSTER TITS) and baggy tshirts. Can anyone help or at least identify??

(Size 12-14 hourglass by the way if that makes a difference)

I feel the same. I'm a size 8-10 but just find clothing really uncomfortable. I hate getting dressed on a morning and if I could I would spend all day in pyjamas.

Tangoandcreditcards · 05/08/2017 05:34

I want to join this thread. This is exactly me. Constantly restricted by my clothes. Weirdly the only bra I'm comfy in is a Wonderbra.

I have a really senior job and try and get away with comfy but never look smart!

I love men's pyjamas, they are the only thing I'd wear if I could.

I feel like this too. Uncomfortable and self conscious in most things I wear. If jeans look good they feel too tight and like my body is screaming Confused I'm at the stage where I can't bear the feel of skinny jeans. I work from home and am in danger of turning into a complete slob, can't seem to wean myself off joggers and boring cotton tops.

I think women's clothes in general are highly uncomfortable to wear. So much polyester and restriction. You really need to look hard and or spend money to find smart but comfortable things to wear.

Userwithoutaname · 05/08/2017 08:12

Thanks Little I'll take a look.

Baalam · 05/08/2017 08:16

Just posting to join the thread. Ive put on a stone in the last year which doesn't help. Gone from a 12 to a big 14.

M and S briefs (bigger than bikini) are the most comfy items in my wardrobe. Also next long line vests and their jersey patterned trousers.

Baalam · 05/08/2017 08:23

The m and s skinnies are really.comfy the high waisted dark denim ones.

Rosenspants · 05/08/2017 08:37

I've got less tolerant of any discomfort as I have got older. I'm a size 14 hour glass. What's helped me.....
Discovered knitted linen...no scratchiness but sadly expensive. (Knitted cotton and merino also good)
Buying loose boho tops but have them taken in and shaped at the bodice so they don't hang off the boobs (more money but so worth it. )
Soft shift dresses...I have to size up to accommodate my hips but have them taken in at the bodice and the waist so they aren't shapeless but are still loose.
Natural fabric stretchy vests under long open shirts give shape and feel comfy.
Next jeans seem much hated on here but as I bloat out during the day, I like the fact that they go a bit baggy. I like the boyfriend and the cigarette shape. I'd say they were mid waist rather than high but not low enough to make the muffin too much of a problem.
Dresses with leggings, cropped in summer.
Knickers....echo what everyone's said. I wear M&S high legs, two sizes up. They are better for me than the full brief as the high leg doesn't cut into my thighs.
Bras...very vexed topic on these boards. Having always been Bravissimo intervened, I just lost my patience with being garrotted, even the though I looked good. I have found my salvation finally at Rigby and Pellar where they fit not unlike bravissimo, but are less rigid re sizing, and will experiment the more with back sizes. My most comfortable one which I love and truly forget I am wearing it, is a Prima Donna Madison, up two back sizes and down two cup sizes from my intervention measurement of 32G . Silly prices though.

I am inspired to go and chuck my last remaining pairs of skinny jeans. I still like the look of them but they rarely make it out of the house as I tear them off as soon as I put them on due to the strangulation feeling. Levi's 501s with a belt or something harem-y with an elasticated waist is preferred.

KeiraTwiceKnightley · 05/08/2017 08:52

The best pants I have found are GymHoney from tkmaxx. Cost about £6 for a 3 pack, 100%cotton jersey, nice and big without being belly warmers (I prefer lower cut). They look enormous when not on a bottom but fit great and stay where they are put.

I sympathise on the tits issue being the ashamed owner of a pair of 30Js. I have one style of bra that fits and is comfortable, supportive and reasonably flattering. Occasionally I'll buy a different one cos I like the fabric etc - always regret it and go back to the faithful.

Sleepthief84 · 05/08/2017 09:00

I have found the Gorgeous Dd+ - 2 Pack Underwired Non-Padded T-Shirt Bras from Debenhams great for my 34H requirements. For really well and comfortable. Only problem is they are cheap so they don't last. A month to six weeks of washing and the wires start coming out. I get a good six months out of a Bravissimo one so it's worth spending the money sometimes.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 05/08/2017 09:31

Thinking about the sensory issues; I have ASD so I know that my lifelong issues with labels, seams, elastic, tops that slide about etc are probably because of that. Also those stupid little loops in the shoulders of things. I know their purpose but always cut them out!

Bejazzled · 05/08/2017 09:33

Ten Cate cotton briefs (big but not ugly) from Debenhams
Uniqlo ankle trousers, because they are slim leg but have a half elastic waistband
Mango Violeta (curve range) starts at size UK 12! But are cut better for curvy figures and there is an outlet 👍

Sallycinnamum · 05/08/2017 10:31

H&M are very hit and miss but they've got some fabulous cotton harem pants in for £12.99. Got some for flight to Majorca and they were so comfy I'm going to get some more when I'm back in the UK.

Hairq · 05/08/2017 11:19

I am
Making a note of all of these suggestions, thank you.

Isn't it interesting how most of us are hourglasses? I've always maintained that clothes just aren't cut for my figure.

OP posts:
banivani · 05/08/2017 12:14

I'm not that much of an hourglass really so true hourglasses must really struggle. I've taken to stare at women's bums when I'm out wondering where they buy trousers that fit. I can't very well go up to young women half my age and say excuse me, but I noticed you have a big arse and small waist where did you find jeans that fit?

Hairq · 05/08/2017 13:09

LOL@ vanibani I would be only too happy to have a conversation with a fellow large arsed women about where to get clothes from Grin

My clothes and shoes DO fit me, as do my bras. I've always worn properly fitted wired bras and never been one that can't wait to take them off but lately I can't stand wearing them. I don't know what's up with me. Chatting to friends recently and they put it down to age and hormones ha ha.

I'm big breasted, so am used to underwired scaffolding bras, and whilst they've never been particularly comfortable but I always preferred to have them on than off. I had a complete hysterectomy last summer, and in the autumn started to feel exactly this - my bra (and waistbands) felt incredibly, unbearably restrictive and uncomfortable. I had to go up a band size and still could only bear wearing a bra for a few hours at a time. Had to wear crop tops all the time I was at home, god knows what I'd have done if I had to be out of the house all day every day.

The problem reduced almost instantly when my GP doubled my HRT dose (because I was feeling exhausted and depressed). I still look forward to taking my bra off in the evening, but the intense discomfort vanished. I think it was some weird hormonal thing.

KoalaDownUnder · 05/08/2017 13:44

Does hourglass mean large arse, then? I thought it was large hips.

I don't think I know my own shape. Blush

Hairq · 05/08/2017 15:23

koala it means small waist in comparison to large hips and bust measurements which should be around the same size as each other - the rule of thumb is at least 10 inches difference between waist and hips/boobs. Large hips usually means that a fairly sizeable arse is attached, but if it's flat then it would be less so I would think.

KoalaDownUnder · 05/08/2017 15:31

Hairq, thanks - that makes sense.

Am in my bloody 40s, by the way, and still veering between thinking I'm apple, hourglass or pear. Confused (The only one I've ruled out is the inverted triangle one!)

Hairq · 05/08/2017 16:47

My shape is a bit less obvious than it used to be as I've got older. I used to be an obvious hourglass, but my waist has thickened a bit since DC and I have a tummy, which I never used to have. This annoys me.

PNGirl · 05/08/2017 17:17

God, yes. Yes. I'm a wide size 12 hourglass, short, and a 34DD/34E. I do like Asos Ridley skinnies because they're so soft and stretchy and if I'm in the mood/not about to start my period Topshop Jamies hold me in quite nicely, but otherwise I've taken to wearing boyfriend jeans. You know what the best thing about summer is? Those floaty patterned wide leg trousers with elastic waistbands. Ahh.

I've been out shopping today in some Gap skinnies and I felt like the Michelin man all day so at 4pm when we got back I was straight into pyjamas.
