Tip on looking less knackered

doozeldog · 27/07/2017 21:37

So I went to work today, looked ok in my appearance or so I thought! I had literally walked through the door and a colleague turns around and said god you look knackered! Ffs!! I wouldn't mind but I just spent 15 mins doing my make up! I'm trying out the new Estée Lauder foundation too, I honestly thought I looked ok and to be told that had really pissed me off! I have a one year old who still wakes up multiple times a night and I have tear troughs under my eyes which don't help!

So I'm posting for tips on how to not look "knackered"

Definitely following!
Although, I also have a new Estée Lauder foundation and I do find it's very Matt and a bit too chalky, and definitely doesn't make me glowy and dewy. Maybe it's that?

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 27/07/2017 21:54

I look so so so tired without make up but I find Clinique foundation the one with built in concealed makes me look 100 better!

stoplickingthetelly · 27/07/2017 21:59

I really like the YSL foundation. It's quite glowy. Personally I find EL too heavy and matte. The bobbi brown corrector and concealer are good at brightening under eyes and hiding dark circles, but I do find they settle in lines! Just have to decide which is worse bags or lines. I can cope with the lines as long as my under eye area is bright.

QuiteLikely5 · 27/07/2017 21:59

Under eye concealer is your friend.

Or you could get your eye bags sorted with a bit of filler

JoyceDivision · 27/07/2017 22:01

No make up, I can't look any rougher so if I do go out and make an effort then I look milesbetter haha

AdoraBell · 27/07/2017 22:03

Me too! I haven't used foundation in years though, kinda gave up. Apparently people are now using a thing called primer before the foundation Confused

burnishedsilver · 27/07/2017 22:04

A tiny hint of fake tan.

ChrisPrattsFace · 27/07/2017 22:05

The other day I didn't wear mascara, and a colleague said 'fuck, you looks exhausted' ... great.
Following this for others advice too!

ImGoingForATwix · 27/07/2017 22:34

Bobbi Brown corrector (applied before concealer if you use it) under your eyes. Game changers. Get into one of their counters and try them out as there's loads of shades.

LockedOutOfMN · 27/07/2017 22:36

Drink more water?

LockedOutOfMN · 27/07/2017 22:37

No. 7 airbrush away primer is good if you're not wearing makeup (it pills if you put anything on top of it, but it goes on nicely over moisturiser).

AdoraBell · 27/07/2017 23:01

I'm currently boycotting Boots so will have to pay for a more expensive primer.

As teenaged DD said today, dammed principles Hmm

seefeld · 27/07/2017 23:03

I've almost run out of my Bobbi Brown corrector and so picked up this palette the other day in Boots: Smashbox palette I find the peach corrector lighter than the Bobbi Brown and just as effective. The highlighters are also lovely for giving a glow and the blushers are beautifully pigmented.

LockedOutOfMN · 27/07/2017 23:11

AdoraBell Yeah, I think I will be too (live abroad - primer was a Christmas present). Maybe look online?

superking · 27/07/2017 23:14

Brightening eye drops and a highlighter for your inner eyelid (I use benefit eyebright).

OutToGetYou · 27/07/2017 23:17

Bourgeois do a nice primer.

Flisspaps · 27/07/2017 23:18

I found sending my DC to the ILs for a few days knocked about 10 years off me this week.

My DC are 7 and 5 though Grin

A cup or two of turmeric lemonade each day, also works amazing well if you have aches or pains, (used to enormously help my SI joint dysfunction before I had them fused) and it really makes my teeth white.

I make mine by mixing 3/4 teaspoons of ground turmeric with a pinch of black pepper, a desert spoon of lemon juice (concentrated not fresh) and a desert spoon of either honey or maple syrup. Mix into a paste and then fill glass with tap water or sparkling water, whatever you feel like. I just use tap water, keep storing and drink quickly to try and rid yourself of the awful taste.

Drinking one or two cups per day makes my skin glow and look fresh and gives me loads of energy, I sleep better and generally feel so much better in myself. Nasty to drink but no pain no gain.

Chottie · 28/07/2017 05:23

I have the same problem, I have just bought a Charlotte T*lbury primer and foundation. They do make my skin look more dewy.

I just need to sort my eyes out now, they always look tired..... I have to be careful with products as they can make them look worse.... Any suggestions anyone?

It's horrible when everytime you meet someone, they say you look tired :(

MumBod · 28/07/2017 06:56

M and S sell a primer by a company called Pur which is the best I've ever used.

doozeldog · 28/07/2017 10:05

Thanks guys will deffo be trying out some of the products mentioned!!

The new Estée Lauder water weight foundation is quite dewy and nice on me, it doesn't settle into my fine lines or look Cakey but I just doesn't last very long on my skin literally two hours it's gone! I tryed with and without primer. I really want a nice foundation!!!

Liadain · 28/07/2017 12:54

As well as using primer, you could try setting and fixing sprays. I've also heard of good results from moisturising, then applying powder, then foundation.

Fixing spray will make your makeup last longer (urban decay all nighter is what I use).
Setting spray sort of meshes it into one layer (mine is MAC fix +).

You can get cheaper versions, just make sure you are clear on what the spray you buy actually is - they can be confusing.

rightknockered · 28/07/2017 14:19

I have recently started using my touche eclat again after not touching it for a couple of years. I look much better. Don't know why I stopped. I do feel a bit overdone though. That in combination with my usual Nars concealer is hiding the shadows, and deflecting from lines. Unfortunately my eyes still look bloodshot and sleepy. Ah well.

Jmangel · 28/07/2017 15:25

Loup, is that 3 to 4 teaspoons turmeric or three quarters? Thinking about trying this tomorrow and don't want to over do it! I have used turmeric face masks in the past which are really glow giving so going to give this a whirl - it's a potent anti inflammatory.

BunnyDog · 28/07/2017 22:19

Some fake tan usually does the trick for me but it depends on how pale you are. I am ghostly pale so a bit on my face, neck, arms etc make me look awake and healthy like not much else can. Other than that its boring but sleep and water do the trick... but sleep isn't always possible with a one year old.. fake it till you make it.! EL foundation for me is the best ever so you have the best help there already.
