Dandruff shampoo recs please!

I have curly/wavy hair and am finally starting to manage it thanks to finding a curly hair specialist. I use a Giovanni shampoo and conditioner and wash every other day and they, along with my hairdresser's styling tips, seem to help my hair stay curly (as opposed to sometimes flat and straight).

Problem is I have fairly bad dandruff - have had for ages. Is there a shampoo I could alternate with my current one to treat it? I've read that L'Oreal is pretty good but not sure which one.

It's the L'Oréal elvive for men with orange lid. 1000 x better than head and shoulders

Chocwocdoodah · 23/07/2017 22:28

Brilliant, thank you. Reckon I can alternate it or should I use it every wash? Does it matter which conditioner I use?

The Bodyshop ginger one is fab

MooPointCowsOpinion · 23/07/2017 22:29

The Body shop ginger shampoo is amazing, only thing that stops my head from itching constantly!

I have curls too. It doesn't seem to affect them too much, but I don't look after them like I should so they don't ever really look their best.

Chocwocdoodah · 06/08/2017 19:39

Can't seem to find the L'Oreal elvive men's one - has it been discontinued??? There are some new Elvive dandruff shampoos in green bottles - have they replaced it maybe?

Is it this one? This is what I use, I really like it

Yes that's the range I've seen - there's one for greasy hair and one for normal too, I think. As good as everyone says the men's one is?

Recent convert to the body shop ginger one... also have curly hair and seems OK.

Chocwocdoodah · 06/08/2017 22:02

Seems I'll have to try the ginger one then!

Body shop ginger!

Chocwocdoodah · 06/08/2017 22:07

....just looked online and there doesn't seem to be a conditioner to go with it. What do you all use?

Picked up the body shop ginger one today. £8 for 400ml made me a bit Shock but it lathers really well. Hopefully it'll last a while. Will report back on any differences after a few more uses. It's really got me craving a ginger beer now.

chickenwhisper · 06/08/2017 22:11

Body Shop Ginger one too! I also love the Lemon Clarifying shampoo from Avalon Organics, you can get it at Holland and Barrett. I just use my normal conditioner (Elvive in gold bottle, OGX or Garnier) but I only use it on the very ends anyway (have quite long fine hair)

Rainatnight · 06/08/2017 22:17

I just use any conditioner and avoid the roots as much as possible. I also leave the shampoo on for a few minutes before rinsing

Chocwocdoodah · 06/08/2017 22:27

Thanks all - will report back once I've tried it.

Ok so I actually bought the Elvive one rather than the Body Shop ginger one purely because I came across a Boots before a Body Shop.

Have been using it every wash for about 2weeks (wash my hair every other day). No change as yet. I know I'm impatient but how long will it take to start working? I'm fed up with my minging scalp!!!

Did you buy the orange lid elvive? That worked within a few days for me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/08/2017 23:49

It's the men's anti dandruff with black bottle and orange lid.

JassyRadlett · 21/08/2017 23:52

I have a stupidly expensive but brilliant Aveda scalp care one. I use it about 1 in every 4 washes and it's brilliant.

usernameinfinito · 22/08/2017 00:34

Body shop ginger shampoo.

FairfaxAikman · 22/08/2017 01:09

Best thing o found was switching to an SLS-free shampoo.
Stopped my scalp overcompensating for being scoured every second day.

jenniferl1983 · 22/08/2017 01:19

The men's orange Elvive has been a god send to me. I've tried plenty of other shampoos - Head and Shoulders, T-Gel etc but none do as good a job.

I tried the new green Elvive when it came out and found it nowhere near as good. I binned it off half way through and now stick to the orange Elvive and won't try anything else.

testing123testing123 · 22/08/2017 06:34

I use this Shea Moisture one. It's expensive but works really well for my troublesome scalp (and I've tried everything including the mens elvive, nizoral etc). It's also SLS free so good for curly hair shop.britishcurlies.co.uk/products/African-Black-Soap-Deep-Cleansing-Shampoo-12oz.html

Chocwocdoodah · 22/08/2017 06:43

I intended to try the men's Elvive but couldn't find it anywhere so went for the new green one instead. Do you think it would've started working by now if it was going to?

The orange lid L'Oreal men's shampoo is what you need.

It has not been discontinued as I bought 2 bottles yesterday. I have had terrible itchy scalp for years and this shampoo has been a godsend.

Wouldn't use anything else. It's fab.
