What product to scrunch into wet curly hair please?

Purplerainbow · 06/07/2017 06:18

My hair is naturally wavy/curly (read that as uneven curly and frizzy!) I Straighten it most of the time as I STILL can't find a product that I can scrunch into it wet and it define curls and reduce the frizz. I know lots say the boots pink curl but that isn't available anymore for some reason.

Please can anyone recommend a product? I don't want to do the whole 'curly girl' thing, just need a product that actually works!

Tia

Watching this as spending most of this summer with a frizz bomb when it's even vaguely warm. I have naturally wavy hair and it's not one or the other.

Sometimes what works for me is a tiny bit of coconut oil smoothed into blow dried hair bit am at a loss for curly.

HappyAsASandboy · 06/07/2017 06:38

I use Cantu Curl Activator and either VO5 mega hold gel or Elnett mousse, but I do follow the curly girl principles. I have gone from massive frizz puffball to defined curls/waves in two months using the method Smile

SayNoToCarrots · 06/07/2017 06:45

I use ordinary conditioner, after washing and wringing out - it gives me defined, shiny curlers and avoids the crunchiness that I get from other products.

AngelaKardashian · 06/07/2017 06:47

Bounce curl light creme gel. It is stuff from the gods and I doubt I'll ever use anything else to scrunch my hair again!

It's quite expensive (about £22 for an 8oz bottle) but I stock up and get three at a time to qualify for free delivery and alltogether they last about 6 months.

Purplerainbow · 06/07/2017 07:32

angela what make/brand is that? Where do you get it from? I don't mind spending if it's a decent product that works!

happy do you use the curl activator on wet hair?

sayno what do you mean? You scrunch in some plain conditioner that you don't wash out?

I bought boots pink curl creme yesterday....

doaweewee · 06/07/2017 07:36

But omg you're right, they're sold out online and not restocking. Panic!

TabbyTurmoil · 06/07/2017 07:36

I'm uneven curly / frizzy and use bumble and bumble don't blow it for air drying. Works for me.

imjessie · 06/07/2017 07:50

I find the boots stuff sticky , I've tried the curly girls method and it does work but again leaves my hair sticky .

Acornantics · 06/07/2017 07:55

Moroccan oil curl cream...non sticky, really effective at holding curl and reducing frizz.

Main thing with curly hair is to not overwash, do condition liberally, don't comb or brush it and use an old tshirt to squeeze water out, not a towel and never ruffle it with a towel.

Hulder · 06/07/2017 07:58

Am currently obsessed with Boucleme gel - is giving me a whole lot of curl.

So much so I am considering going the whole hog curly girl.

DS suddenly sprouted mad curls at puberty.

Until we discovered this sunsilk product (not sure what it is called in english, but bottle will probably look the same) he mostly looked like a fully ripe, blonde dandelion. Now he has a Jon Snow-sequel head of blonde ringlets and defined curls.

It's cheap and last a long time. Plus is fast and easy to apply, which is a plus when the curls are attached to a 17 year old boy who thinks any kind of hair care is precious minutes being viciously stolen from ball practice time.

GinGeum · 06/07/2017 08:15

I also use the Cantu Curl Activator on dripping wet hair. Sometimes use a tiny, tiny bit on the ends when it's dry. Makes my curls so shiny!

orangefolly · 06/07/2017 08:19

Another curly person here - will have to try some of these suggestions. I use Toni & Guy Wave Memorizer, works for me. I put it in wet and then twist dry. But it isn't that easy to find - most Boots don't stock it unless they are really large.

silkpyjamasallday · 06/07/2017 08:23

L'Oréal kerastase oleo-curl is AMAZING! It is pricey but you need so little to make a huge difference, it defines the curls without making them crunchy. Both DP and I use it, I have corkscrew curls when I put this on rather than matted frizz, DP is half Jamaican so has Afro textured hair and it makes his hair unbelievably beautiful. If it works for Afro hair it will definitely work on caucasian curls.

GeorgeTheHamster · 06/07/2017 08:32

My son went curly at puberty too, what's that about?

He insists on brushing it so he has frizz...

GinGeum · 06/07/2017 08:38

I went Curly at puberty too! Used to have poker straight hair as a child...

Superfinch · 06/07/2017 08:40

Tabby I use bumble and bumble's Don't Blow It too. I'm a long time lurker on mumsnet but felt compelled to sign up to post this.
Rainbow this stuff is brilliant. It feels a bit crispy as it dries but once you run your fingers through it the crispyness disappears completely. I sometimes twist and pin sections of hair with the product in and leave to dry to create amazing waves. It's not cheap - about £25 - but IMO it's worth every penny for frizz-free hair.

I had long, curly hair and Paul Mitchell Sculpting foam, run through on wet hair and allowed to dry naturally was the dogs....well, you know.

I wrap wet hair in a t-shirt, put a few drops of oil through it, then Aveda Curl creme while it's still soaking wet. Not the cheapest but it really gives me pretty ringletty curls, and lasts ages.

NikiBabe · 06/07/2017 14:06

Aveda Be Curly, curl enhancer.

Works like a charm.

MissPatty · 06/07/2017 14:17

The cantu curl activator is good, but I don't seem to be able to use it every wash as it starts to make my hair dry. I really like Eco Olive Oil gel at the moment (from Amazon).
Loosely following the curly girl method and it's working wonders for my wavy/ almost curly hair

0nline · 06/07/2017 14:21

My son went curly at puberty too, what's that about?

Maybe when their heads grow into an adult shape it distorts their hair folicules into an oval so they go curly ?

^^Just a wild guess though.

Back when it happened I posted here cos it happened so quickly. One minute he had fine, dead straight hair, then it seemed to go a little fuzzy and finally pouffff.. full blown dandelion head. Turned out lots of other mums had kids with similar hair transformations at puberty too.

I'm jealous. I have fine, mouse, straight hair. Before and after puberty. Where are my hormone included ringlets cascading around my shoulders ?

It's bloody wasted on him. I would spend HOURS preening and primping it if we could find a way to transplant it onto my head.

KanielOutis · 06/07/2017 14:39

I'm full curly girl and use the Shea Moisture range of products. They are pricy, but it's cheaper than when I used to chemically straighten my hair. A small pot of leave in cream / gel is about £12 from boots.

namechange20050 · 06/07/2017 14:52

Try ditching your shampoo and just washing with conditioner. I've got frizzy/wavy/thick hair and doing this has transformed my hair. Loads less frizz, mode defined curls.
