What product to scrunch into wet curly hair please?

Purplerainbow · 06/07/2017 06:18

My hair is naturally wavy/curly (read that as uneven curly and frizzy!) I Straighten it most of the time as I STILL can't find a product that I can scrunch into it wet and it define curls and reduce the frizz. I know lots say the boots pink curl but that isn't available anymore for some reason.

Please can anyone recommend a product? I don't want to do the whole 'curly girl' thing, just need a product that actually works!

Tigi dumb blonde reconstructor applied and scrunched in to soaking hair in the shower.

Swear by it.

WomblingThree · 14/07/2017 23:14

@Ollivander84, what specific products are you using? Your hair is amazing!

Ollivander84 · 14/07/2017 23:22

Co wash - moogoo or as I am co wash
Condition - Shea moisture low porosity
Product - cantu curl activator and cantu define and shine custard
When it's bone dry and crunchy I scrunch out the crunch with a dab of mizani hair oil

The cantu and moogoo were the game changers for me

WomblingThree · 14/07/2017 23:28

Thanks. I think I will give the Cantu a go when I've used up my Boots creme. I've already put a load of Noughtie stuff in my Superdrug basket (which I'm not allowing myself to buy until I've finished all my current shampoo and conditioner!).

I can't get on with co-washing. Conditioner anywhere near my scalp makes me itchy.

Sedona I've had my hair cut by Lindsey Hughes. She really is a curl whisperer - best cut I've ever had

NomDePlumeReloaded · 15/07/2017 11:34

Anyone with 2A/2B type waves on here who'd care to share their routines?

My hair is wavier than a 2A but not quite a defined as a 2B. Sort of surfy waves. I have greasy roots and dry ends. Frizzy and fine. I'd like to enhance the wave without making it crispy or overloaded with product (easily done with my hair). I have a sensitive scalp that goes lumpy and weepy if I used sls or protein (my hair also hates protein, it goes brittle). Air drying my hair is great for my hair texture but terrible for my scalp (fungal build up). Arghhhhhhhh.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 15/07/2017 11:41

Pic of my hair texture. If it helps.

What product to scrunch into wet curly hair please?
NomDePlumeReloaded · 15/07/2017 11:42

That picture is my hair freshly washed, air dried & finger combed.

HeyBigSpender · 15/07/2017 11:47

Loving these tips! I have curly hair too and it always goes frizzy.

graysor · 15/07/2017 14:25

Is there anyone who does the cg method, with long thick hair, who actually manages to get it washed and dried in the morning before work? If so, how?

Mine takes literally hours so I always end up doing it in the evening, and inevitably tying it up the next day.

AngelaKardashian · 15/07/2017 15:55

Graysor I had longer hair when I started and no I don't manage to do it in the mornings! I wash my hair once a week on a Sunday night using DevaCurl No-Poo, scrunch hen plop overnight using a dating scarf. It's usually still damp in the morning so I diffuse then. If it needs it, I use a water spray bottle to dampen it some more, scrunch a bit more product in and diffuse dry then.

I also do the same on a Wednesday night/Thursday morn but just with a deep condition on the Wednesday rather than a full wash.

I also sometimes put my hair into two large cornrows for the week and tie it up in a bun at the back if I can't be arsed with the diffusing in the mornings. They usually last in my hair for about 3-5 days, which is useful for work.

SoyYo · 15/07/2017 17:46

I follow CG method with Shea Butter conditioner but find their sulfate free shampoo too "greasy" and can also recommend Body Shop rainforest moisture sulfate free shampoo and hair butter conditioner (reminds me 40% off at the moment, must stock up!). In between I sometimes use Boucleme's hydrating shampoo but I find two washes with that (plus hair butter or Shea butter silicone free conditioner) and I go back to BS rainforest shampoo it seems to get my curls "bouncier" without needing to resort to sulfate shampoos. Style with dripping wet curls Boucleme hair cream followed by Boucleme gel because it smells heavenly and works well OR Boots pink curl cream and UG pink gel for a cheaper alternative OR Deva firm hold gel also good (Amazon sell huge bottles but not cheap). Microtowel turban for 10 mins to get it ready for hairdryer diffuser dry with head upside down for root volume and great curls. Takes max 45 mins from getting in shower to out of the door. I have naturally dry hair and need to do this every 2/3 days max otherwise curls get frizzy and less bouncy. I've stopped colouring my hair (and I've only ever had semi permanent colour in the past) as I use heat to dry to minimise damage and curls are healthy, having said that I'm not in love with my grey hair as I'm dark brown and I might go back to colouring. Any tips on less harsh colouring brands (not henna)?

WomblingThree, your post is so helpful! What is a clarifying shampoo?

Jijhebtseksmetezels · 16/07/2017 08:57

Boots mousse is great. And cheap

user1471553214 · 16/07/2017 09:03

Don't worry, I've done that google thing Grin

Kimber2 · 16/07/2017 09:10

Try getting a haircut to lessen the hair and use a deep-conditioning mask once per week. The heat from styling tools, such as hair dryers, curling irons, flat irons or hot rollers, can leave hair dry and damaged which leads to more frizz.

Try to keep the use of these hot styling tools to a minimum. When a flat iron or hair dryer is a must, use a silicone-based serum beforehand to protect hair from the heat and control frizz.

After you've shampooed and conditioned your hair, while it's still wet, apply a cream-based product ex- www.naturallycurly.com/curlproducts/view/7479/motions-naturally-you-hydrate-my-curls-pudding-styling-products-8-oz from root to tip.

When you apply the product, instead of rubbing it in, warm the product between your palms and fingers, and squeeze it onto your hair. Then, wrap your curls around your fingers to shape them exactly how you want, and let your strands air dry.

Just popping back as promised. I tried the curl jelly by umberto gianni and it wasn't sticky or too crispy but left my hair a little limp... I would need quite a bit to have a good effect. Today I will be trying the boots curl creme for the first time!

SingaporeSlander · 16/07/2017 11:27

I find Umberto Gianni Curl Jelly good.

SingaporeSlander · 16/07/2017 11:28

Sorry, just saw you tried UG today, I would say you can use quite a lot and it will scrunch out so don't be afraid to put a bit more on and it might give you better volume?

Purplerainbow · 16/07/2017 12:12

I found it made my fair a little lank?

I honk I prefer the boots curl creme... I didn't use a lot as it felt like it would be too gloopy but you wouldn't know there was anything really in it. It doesn't look too bad, very cheap.. I will see how it scrunched into dry hair later when I go out./

I usually use the boots curl cream on dripping wet hair, I scrunch it in and squeeze some of the water out, then follow straight away with the UG gel. I have fairly fine hair but lots and lots lots of it halfway down my back and I use about a walnut sized amount of each. Then wrap my hair in a regular towel for a couple of mind as I find T-shirt plopping leads to my hair taking hours to dry. Then I just air-dry it, don't touch it and preferably don't move for a couple of hours while it dries. The result can be anything, from mostly corkscrew-curlswith a bit of frizz to full on Diana Ross frizzball.
Yesterday I broke my routine for the first time in years and washed, then wrapped in a towel for a couple of minutes, then applied my new Bumble and Bumble Don't blow it. The results were interesting. It seems to have relaxed my curls, so less corkscrew and more "s" shape, and it has made them a bit frizzy. Not on top though, the product has definitiely tamed the flyaways and I don't seem to look like I have been dragged through a hedge. Overall it has given me really big hair. I usually like more defined curls but this is the kind of hair that people tend to compliment me on. And it looks exactky the same after sleeping on it for a night. Will continue to use it and experiment a bit more with the amount of product and the scrunching stage.

DumbledoresArmy · 16/07/2017 14:04

I use the shockwaves curl moose. It's great! I've used it for years!
I've used the pink curl cream too.

I condition every day. Currently using palmers shea curl rescue. Comb through whilst wet, apply moose then leave to dry naturally job done.

swampytiggaa · 20/07/2017 22:23

Been following this and am now a convert to plopping. Thank you. Haven't found the best product yet for me but am continuing to experiment 🙂
