Can I wear this? What with?

I've a friend's wedding coming up - it's abroad (Sweden). I'd originally bought a more summery dress, but I'm not loving the fit.
I've recently lost weight, and I'm starting to feel more confident. I wish this dress was navy, then I'd be absolutely happy with it. But it's black, and I can't find a navy equivalent- the only navy ones have embellishments I am not keen on.

So...wise people - can I wear it?

And what with?

Shoes and necklace pictured were just what I had to hand.

Excuse awful attempt to anonymise picture!

This is option 1. It's lovely but I think slightly wide around my hips and thighs.

Lovely dress!
Wonders what's on your crotch you have blanked out Hmm

mortificado · 29/06/2017 22:17

Sorry not helpful!
I think the black dress is beautiful, fits nicely. Much prefer it to the option 1 you linked Smile

zifermama · 29/06/2017 22:18

I love this the first one, you look fab and should go for it! Accessorise with bright shoes and bag...maybe fuchsia pink or something? Have a look at Dune as they often have lots of lovely different shades with a reasonable heel.

The dress looks fab on you. You could also go with a light or bright coloured jacket / shawl type thing!

poppym12 · 29/06/2017 22:24

The dress looks gorgeous (I'm not keen on the other one but I'm not a fan of patterns). I'd wear black strappy shoes, a silver cuff bangle with some colour on it - maybe pale pink - and a bag that has the same colour picked out in the jewellery.

Waffles80 · 29/06/2017 22:25

Ha! The blanked out bit round my nethers was where I slipped with the white blanking out and rectified it with black. So technical. I assume design companies will come flocking for my skills.

Wedding will be a bit outdoorsy. Need a wedge shoe, I think, in case of grass sinkage.

Yes agree the first dress you posted is best. And a colourful jacket would work. Also a belt in navy, metallic or a brighter colour if you wanted to bring colour in. I like navy and black, but agree that pink could also work well. What colours do you like op?

Waffles80 · 29/06/2017 22:30

I'm not keen on pink, it's just not me.

Green, orange, gold.

I've got a lovely gold cuff with a green stone.

It's shoes. The shoes are tricky.

Designers will be in touch to
Tomorrow I'm sure Wink
I'd maybe go with some nice slim elegant heels? But then I understand the grass sinkage.
You've great legs so the slim heels would look better imo Grin

Bloomed · 29/06/2017 22:35

Green and gold would work well. m.johnlewis.com/kg-by-kurt-geiger-monty-wedge-heel-espadrilles/p/2139074
This kind of wedge?

Waffles80 · 29/06/2017 22:38

Oh they're lovely - but not sure totally suited to dress?

I'm leaning towards gold heeled sandals and praying it doesn't rain...

Like these, but they're sold out in a 5

I also bought this bag - not for the wedding, but because it was £7.

They're nice but I'd not want to stand for hours on end in them. No chance, just that bit too high.

[[Yes, the first dress is lovely. Wear it!

I'd probably put something like these and this with it.

there's a 5 in these which are reasonably similar but maybe better in damp grass / rain.

these claim to be gold but look pink Confused

MrsLettuce · 29/06/2017 22:50

Eh? Excuse the random C&P spam in the middle there Blush

Bloomed · 29/06/2017 22:58

I like the second link you posted mrslettuce Also this one is lower

Bloomed · 29/06/2017 22:59

And of course that is a repeat paste. Will get right one ...

burnishedsilver · 30/06/2017 01:50

My intention was to say absolutely, it's fabulous, wear it. I thought that the 'no black to a wedding' thing was either a uk custom or a mumsnet urban myth. I don't live in the UK so hadn't heard of it outside of mindset. However, a quick Google search suggests that wearing black to a Swedish wedding is considered bad luck and offensive to the couple. Is there an actual Swedish person you could run it by?

SerfTerf · 30/06/2017 02:07

How many navy dresses have you got to time to try on? Navy sounds like a plan.

Waffles80 · 30/06/2017 06:03

We leave next Thursday....there's time!

But having scoured the whole internet, there's not a simple navy equivalent.

I'll ask my other Swedish friends their view on black!

Dress looks stunning, could I suggest no necklace, the neckline is lovely and straight, it doesn't need anything, I would wear bangles or possibly earrings, hope you can wear it.
