How much do you tip at hair and beauty appointments?

I've been having this discussion with some friends and we all vary loads. What do you tip for a cut and blow dry, costing around £40.
And something like an eyebrow wax/ pedicure £20/£30?

10% or thereabouts

skyzumarubble · 28/06/2017 20:34

£0.

NameChangr678 · 28/06/2017 21:52

Nothing - those procedures are expensive enough as it is

Bodicea · 29/06/2017 21:08

I tend to give a tenner every three cuts as I don't like giving my hairdresser small change.

sowhatusernameisnttaken · 29/06/2017 22:35

I don't tip my hairdresser/colourist and always find paying excruciatingly embarrassing because of this but they charge so much I can't afford to!!

SleepingBooty · 29/06/2017 22:38

I don't. My stylist is the owner and there isn't a junior in the salon. I do go every month though.

Newtssuitcase · 29/06/2017 22:40

zero and I don;t know anyone who does. My hair costs about £100. they're not getting a rtp on top of that. And I wouldnt; even think of tipping a beautician.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/06/2017 22:41

Usually 10%.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 29/06/2017 22:41

I give about £2 extra.
I always make sure I tip everyone involved in my treatment.
I couldn't not leave a tip. I wouldn't want my nick name to be tight arse

Delatron · 29/06/2017 22:44

£0. My hair cost £130. A couple of quid extra seems trite.

PlymouthMaid1 · 29/06/2017 22:46

Nothing. They are doing their job same as I do and I have never been tipped.

BuzzKillington · 29/06/2017 22:47

Depends.

A haircut or waxing, £5. Colour or facial or massage, £10.

tigerdriverII · 29/06/2017 22:47

My hair costs £120 and I give the stylist a tenner. The boss does the colour and doesn't get a tip

noplease · 29/06/2017 22:50

£0. I never have done. I now go to my friend who has her own salon and she gives me a discount and would never expect a tip, I did leave a tip for her trainee at Christmas though. When I went to other hairdressers in the past I didn't tip either. I think paying £20-£30 for a cut and blow dry is enough and I still don't understand why people feel the need to tip certain professions but not others.

chickensatay · 29/06/2017 22:50

My hair costs £75 and I give my hair dresser £10. I only get it done every 12 or so months (full head of highlights).

Ladydepp · 29/06/2017 22:51

I go to the hairdresser every 4 weeks with no tipping, I would only leave a tip at Christmas.
I hate the culture of tipping, but I do leave a couple of quid for the pedicurist as it seems like such an unpleasant job.

MaisyPops · 29/06/2017 22:54

I've only known one person who tips their hairdresser and we all laugh.
I go to a smaller place that charges a reasonable (mid range) amount and staff stick around for a long time. I don't tip.

bananafish81 · 29/06/2017 22:55

Tenner to the hair stylist, few quid to the junior who washes my hair

See the same therapist for my nails every 3 weeks so always a few quid for her

itsbetterthanabox · 30/06/2017 08:15

Maisypops
Why do you laugh at the person you know that tips her hairdresser?

elfofftheshelf · 30/06/2017 10:03

I always tip 10% - 20%.

honeylou42 · 30/06/2017 10:58

Nothing

Feawen · 30/06/2017 11:52

I don’t mind tipping for exceptional service or giving a couple of extra pounds to the junior who I guess doesn’t earn much…but from chatting to my hairdresser it’s pretty clear she has more disposable income than me. I tipped £10 after a recent restyle when she spent extra time looking at pictures, making sure I was happy with the result, etc. For a quick trim and tidy-up the salon already charges plenty – more than the service is really worth IMO – but I’m a loyal customer because I trust them to restyle my hair.

Girlywurly · 30/06/2017 14:42

Great idea for a thread - I always wonder about this!

I tip about 15%, more for my haircuts as they're dead cheap and always done by students.

Manicure: £12, tip £2
Brows: £6, tip £1
Hair: £14, tip £5

user1498051868 · 30/06/2017 16:15

This is must the thread I've been looking for ...I get a colour and hair extensions every 5 months and it's £440 ...would you tip?

BackforGood · 30/06/2017 16:57

Nothing. They charge for the work they do.
