Sandal Suggestions

Tomorrow I'm escaping the small town and will be in reach of some decent shoe shops. and I need some sandals. I drew a big fat blank in Clark's, Office and Schuh last week.

I have several pairs of Birkenstocks and they have served me well but I am sick of them and of the whole chunky cork-soled look.

I like the look of these from Moshulu but I want to be able to try them on, and I could do with a bit more support under my feet.

Can anybody suggest some sandals with the same amount of support and comfort as Birkenstocks, but a similar look to the sandals in the link?

These are VERY comfortable to walk in. First wear and no rubbing or blisters. Oh just realized you said you wanted to try on and these are Online Order only.

Gah! I do need to try on as I'm a 6.5/7 depending...

I haven't found sandals I like for 5 years, my last pair of kg are now looking decidedly shabby.

Everythings so rubbish these days.

Trying on session for you then. I am sometimes a 5 or sometimes a 6 and it is a bit pot luck with online stuff. I try to avoid it with shoes but was desperate.

How about Teva? Not really the same style, but so comfy and they are really fashionable these days.

I've seen loads of people wearing Saltwater Originals lately. Haven't tried them myself but apparently they are very comfortable and get mentioned a lot on MN when people ask about sandals! I have my first ever pair of Birkenstocks this summer and can't believe the comfort!

I have Tevas (very comfy!), and wanted something a bit smarter.

Lovely soft cork footbed, just enough heel to make a difference. Love them!

I saw those in the catalogue, @Haffiana. How do the sizes come up?

And yes, it's bloody miles to a Moshulu shop from here, too!

What I found re sizes, was that the normal soled sandals, such as the Wasabi I took my normal size of 6, 39. However in the styles with the corkbed soles such as Zilla and Ginger Ale, it was a better fit in 40, or 6 1/2. Not much in it tbh, but when we had that hot spell recently and I realised my feet had swollen I was glad I had a pair that had a bit of room for manoeuvre!

I also have a pair of their ankle boots in a 6. To be honest I am exactly the same in Clarkes - sometimes a 6, sometimes a 6 1/2.

One thing though, every single one of them is far more comfortable than Saltwaters!

I love my saltwater sandals (I have two pairs: one tan, one red). They are very comfy and you can go in the water in them. They are, however, VERY flat, which I don't mind, but my feet get tired in them more quickly than they otherwise might.

No I give up, they're nice tho!

How about Earth Spirit sandals? They have a good reputation for being comfortable and supportive on the arch of the foot. I have ordered these today.

Ugg had lots of padded soles sandals recently. And they have a sale on. Unfortunately none of them were right for me as I have a high instep, but the sole was lovely and comfy.

Haffiana those Moshulu ones are gorgeous. Are they comfortable if you are on your feet and walking around all day long?

OP, thanks for starting this thread. I'd given up on finding any I liked this season, but there are some lovely sandals on this thread

I bought Earth Spirit sandals for the first time ever this year and I can quite honestly say that they are the best sandals I have ever had. Pretty, comfortable and supportive. Have managed to convince other MNetters to get them,,,,but then, we are the Crepeys

I have them in teal and then DD aged 17 got them in the red

millifiori Yes, you could easily wear them for walking all day. The sole has a cork bed inside, so it is very soft and giving.

My real go-to sandals for comfort though are these Clarks: Manilla Bonita . I am not crazy about either of the colours this year (I may buy the sage if they go in the sale), but I bought a pair 2 or 3 years ago in a pewter colour which are still going strong and look good as new.

I don't know what a crepey is, although if it means old and wrinkled then I am one!

However I bought a pair of Saltwaters a couple of years ago after rave reviews on here, and came to the conclusion that the people raving about them must have been wearing those atrociously uncomfortable sandals that you find eg under Office's own label, and on Asos and the like, to consider that Saltwaters were in any way comfortable. Yes, the upper is fine, but the sole is completely hard, completely flat, and offers no support at all.

Clarks (again) do a sandal that is marginally less grannyish than Saltwaters which also has a proper cushioned sole: Bianca Crown. I don't suppose you could wear it into the sea, but personally if I did need shoes for the sea I would use neoprene ones.

Fab, thank you everyone. Those Earth Spirit ones look as if they might solve the problem of trying to combine a comfy and supportive sole with a vaguely smart overall look.

I like the idea of being able to go paddling in the Saltwaters, but the sole looks as if it lacks support (and I am that middle-aged that I care more for the state of my back than the coolness of my footwear...)

And @Haffiana, thanks for the sizing advice. I have a pair of Moshulu boots that I absolutely love...

It's when sandal-hunting that I realise how fussy I am... don't like that colour... don't like that sole... don't like that design...don't want more than a minimal heel... don't want cork...!
