Do you like primark?

I sometimes find a nice shirt / blouse and buy it but then you see that many people wearing the same thing too.
Do you shop in primark much?

Mostly I design and make my own clothes, but occaisionally will buy plain basics from Primark if I want leggings or plain socks.
The printed items are unfortunately very easy to spot. I mean, you can see someone and KNOW where they shopped, if they're wearing a printed dress/top/skirt/jumpsuit...the prints are so distinctive, and call me a snob if you like but I wouldn't wear something with a print from there.
I really dislike shopping in any shop and only shop when I absolutely have to.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 25/06/2017 23:00

Do find it hit and miss. Sometimes lovely stuff and get a shock at the till then other times nice top..with something odd on it/odd style etc.
Sizing is a bit over the place but not the only shop with that issue.

Just feel for the people who work there when you see the state parts of it gets left in. Must spend so long folding stuff up and that only hours later back in a mess

I generally find -

Pyjamas
T shirts
Christmas jumpers
Baby clothes

I got a lovely embroidered pair of heeled boots yesterday.

SoupDragon · 26/06/2017 08:17

To me it's false economy.

I disagree. Some of the things are really cheap and won't last but they are great for things that will either be dated very quickly or things like t shirts that might get ruined by suncream etc on holiday. Also, kids clothes that they grow out of before they are worn out.

Some things seem to be really well made and last for ages though.

I like it, I have loads of cardigans from there, loads of cheap jewellry and hair accessories, handbags in many many colours and sandals. one or two tops and when I was slimmer all my jeans came from there. I think I have a 'good eye' for stuff as I often get compliments on my outfits and people seem genuinely surprised if i admit I'm head to toe Primark! recently I have been pleasantly surprised by their make up too.

Samoyedydog · 26/06/2017 09:29

Literally all my clothes are from primark apart from anything I've bought on eBay Blush I tend to like things for a while and then change my mind and wonder how I ever wore such a hideous thing in a matter of months so it's much better for me to only buy cheap!

Bumbumtaloo · 26/06/2017 09:33

It seems I'm the only one to have issues with the t-shirts, must be the way I wash them although everything is washed in the same way. They never seem to hold there shape.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 26/06/2017 09:48

I quite like primark
Agree that sometime the quality is shite, but this can be a problem anywhere on the high street. I recently bought DD1 a couple of jersey tops from Next and they've washed terribly.

I used to have several of the primark vest tops, but they've changed the cut slightly so I'm now on M&S. Love the denim though - I have the super high waist skinnies and the mom jeans. Towels and flannels also good, and my favourite sports bra is from there.

BumBumtaloo..I agree that the very cheap t shirts (think they are around £2 ish?) aren't great..the shape round the neckline always seems to go for me, but some of the patterned t shirts which are maybe £3? (I usually buy the stripey ones) wash and wear really well...they seems to be thicker and more sturdy.

Bumbumtaloo · 26/06/2017 14:08

FatGirlWithChocolate tbh it's not me who wears them it's DH and the DC. I do have some vest tops and long sleeved t-shirts that I wear and they are fine.

FatGirlWithChocolate · 26/06/2017 16:33

Yes, the vest/thin strap tops and long sleeved tops are ace..I have a good few and wear them lots in winter...just the very thin t shirts I find not good.

ElspethFlashman · 26/06/2017 19:23

I like their footsie socks - they have a gummy bit at the back, so they don't fall off your foot

Yes! I forgot about those! They are amazing. I now look like one of those cool people who appear to wear trainers without any sign of socks. They're a revelation.

Cherryflamingo · 26/06/2017 19:32

I live in Primark breton tshirts! They wash and wash. Also a fan of their plain vest tops - have them in every colour - and plain hoodies. Men's jumpers are worth looking at in the winter as well if you want something unembellished.

Also like their bed linen, again it washes well.

legolammb · 26/06/2017 22:05

As someone with darker skin, I'm amazed to find that Primark offer tights in my skin tone. Even the likes of M&S don't cater to me so this is handy. I like them for cheap flannels, cotton pads, shoe liners. Also their basic vest tops - wear these most days under blouses at work. I have a few of their strapless pool cover ups and live in these on holiday or round the house like last week when there's a heatwave. I have stuff from there that's lasted years, so I don't personally treat it like disposable fashion.

I wouldn't shop there for years after Rana Plaza but they seem to have improved (studied them in a human rights case study recently)

WomblingThree · 26/06/2017 22:53

I would defy most people to tell the difference if the labels were removed from the basics. Long sleeve T-shirts are lovely and thick and stretchy. Vests and summer t-shirts are no worse quality than anywhere else. £8 jeans, just as good as Top Shop or Dorothy Perkins but less than half the price.

The mistake a lot of people are making is sneering at Primark for being low quality, but it really is no worse quality than other high street stores like the above-mentioned or Zara, H&M etc. If I'm getting low sweatshop quality, I'd rather pay Primark prices (£3.50 for the long sleeved tops) than Zara prices. If you are trying to compare Primark to other expensive brands much loved on here, then of course it's not as good.

@MacarenaFerreiro, what you have to remember though is that a lot of us who shop in Primark can't afford to "wear things for a few weeks and throw them away" (how wasteful can you get?!). Some of us actually buy things in Primark as it means we get new clothes! I've never had any problem with stuff not lasting. I've got a 12 year old T-shirt that I'm still wearing!
