Do you like primark?

I sometimes find a nice shirt / blouse and buy it but then you see that many people wearing the same thing too.
Do you shop in primark much?

I love their scoop neck stretch long sleeved tops..have a few stripey ones that I live in in the winter, and they wash and wash. Their ultra soft knitted tights likewise - £3 a pair and the best winter tights I have ever found. Having long, thick hair, their kirbygrips for thick hair are excellent and don't lose their grip (unlike normal ones which only last me a few uses) - and only £1 a pack too...had some really nice jewellery from there too, often reduced to pennies..last time I was in I found a lovely posh looking watch for £3.

Nightwear is fab. Graphic tshirts (esp mens) good for a couple of years solid service. 100% cotton cardigans are good. Socks, and hair elastics awesome. I've lived in their matching cotton bra and pants (various sets) for years and years (longest one latest 3 years which isn't bad for 3 quid).

Toffeelatteplease · 22/06/2017 20:42

Also

Jeans wear and wash as well as marks and some top notch brands that are handed down to DD by wealthy relatives. They are a little thinner than marks but not noticeably than next and some "quality" brands

Velvet lined leggings are stunningly warm. Their opaque tights are (just recently) OK quality.

YY to the bed linen being fab

Blush I have never been through the doors. Am I missing out?

sodablackcurrant · 22/06/2017 20:47

OCSockOrphanage

Of course you are, unless you are miles and miles away from a store.

If you are fine, not worth the trip specially, but if there is one close by, I am sorry, go try it out and get back to us with your review!

sufficatedsue · 22/06/2017 20:52

I love the PJs, socks, children's pants/socks , homewear

Very rarely buy Day clothing in there

Liiinoo · 22/06/2017 20:53

The cotton/Lycra camisoles and v-necked t shirts are great. Lots of colours, good long length, never shrink. The cotton jersey pjs are great. Cotton wool pads for make up removal are about a third of the price of Tesco or Boots. I also have some lovely skirts I bought there years ago that are always admired and commented on. And a lovely sequinned tote bag I bought about 10 years ago that I take on holiday sometimes.

DD (25) went out for work drinks last week in a skater style dress she bought there for about £10 and two senior partners at her law firm admired the fit and cut of it and asked where she got it. She said it was high street but last season so no longer available as she was embarrassed to admit to Primark!

mydogisthebest · 22/06/2017 20:57

I always buy my socks there and often knickers. I buy loads of shoes there and find them really comfortable which is odd as usually I have terrible trouble finding shoes that don't rub and give me blisters.

I buy pj's to wear around the house. Also their long sleeved tops and shirts which last me years. I have also bought a couple of handbags from there and a suitcase.

I have been really pleased with their towels, some of which I have had years and I was them at a minimum of 60 degrees. Likewise I am impressed with their bedding, again washed at 60 degrees and they haven't faded at all and still feel lovely

OCSockOrphanage · 22/06/2017 20:57

I'm not close, and when I go to that town, I tend to have a list and to pay for my parking without planning to look around. Next time...

sodablackcurrant · 22/06/2017 21:04

One thing I will say about Primark.

If you find something that fits you and looks great, buy different colours.

They are gone within a week. I know this to my disappointment....

Maudlinmaud · 22/06/2017 21:34

Oh I bought gorgeous sequined pumps in it a few months ago. My friend who is a designer fiend loved them so I bought her a pair and she loves them. They are rose gold espadrilles, she could not believe they where £6. Sooooo comfy and I'm picky about shoes.

Unicorn81 · 22/06/2017 21:39

Love the pjs, bedding, makeup brushes and tend to buy stuff for kids butt no clothes for myself

mayoli · 22/06/2017 21:43

Their underwear is brilliant. And their pyjamas are AMAZING- the winter ones are soooo cosy and the summer ones are just right for UK weather (usually!). Their dressing gowns are also lovely. I also get my black work trousers in there because they fit me well and look the same as any other black trousers. Same with denim- all my jeans/shorts/dungarees are from Primark.
I tend to avoid getting t-shirts and patterned things there though, unless they've got a nice range out, because generally at least five other people walking down the high street are wearing the same item of clothing.

MumBod · 22/06/2017 21:45

Hair bands, invisible socks, knickers, coathangers, all brilliant.

sodablackcurrant · 22/06/2017 22:21

Do not expect to walk into Primark with your nose in the air or anything lol.

Your basket will be full to the brim within twenty minutes. I guarantee it.

Great marketing from them. They know it's tat, but it's good tat just the same!

MacarenaFerreiro · 22/06/2017 22:21

Surprised to see so many fans of their undies - I've had a few pairs of knickers from there and have found them very scratchy and cheap. M&S are SO much nicer.

boggedoff · 22/06/2017 22:41

no all crap

CostaCoffeeRoyalty · 22/06/2017 22:44

Only for underwear and PJs.

RebelandaStunner · 22/06/2017 23:55

I can't stand primark. On the rare occasion I have been forced In by someone else, I find it grim and never find anything I like anyway.
On a shopping trip I might only buy three things but they will be really nice, last ages and usually from different shops NOT three million items of dubious quality in awful material so thin it's see through and the lottery that it might survive one wash or a week or a season and still look in decent condition if I'm extremely lucky.

ZaraW · 23/06/2017 08:10

No I've been in one once with a friend didn't really appeal. If I want cheap clothes I will buy off EBay or charity shops.

pmppns · 23/06/2017 08:30

Probably my favourite shop. The only thing I can't buy from there is bras (g cup). I buy Disney branded pants for my dd at £3.50 whereas in other stores they're nearer to £10. I have to go up a size for dd in tops and jeans but it lasts.

We are getting a primark in our town in July!!

Liiinoo · 23/06/2017 08:40

Also the nude seamless knickers are great. A bit Bridget Jones but comfy, wash well and don't show at all, even under leggings or white trousers.

MinesaPinot · 23/06/2017 09:15

I dip in and out. Last couple of times I've been in I haven't seen anything I liked - actually tell a lie, they had a lovely maxi dress but not in my size Hmm

I am still wearing cardis, and vest tops that I got a few years ago - I liked the fact that the vest tops were longer in the body so great for layer pieces, although recently they seem to be a bit shorter. I also like their gym kit. Shoes are a bit hit and miss, although you can't knock their flipflops for a £1 for holidays - take them away for 2 weeks and throw them before you come home. What's not to like?

One of our old neighbours, who worked for M & S, said that she swore by Primark's bedding, and that their premium towels were better than the M & S ones. Haven't tried either though, so can't comment.

I think a lot depends on what branch you go to. Our local one in Maidstone is small, and dark (but the staff are really nice). If I want a bigger one I head to Bromley which can be a bit more jumble sale depending on what time you get in there. The best one I have been to is the one in Bournemouth - me and a friend lost each other in there once(!) but when I went in recently I did see things in there I hadn't seen anywhere else.

mydogisthebest · 23/06/2017 09:48

Macarena, I don't find their knickers scratchy or uncomfortable. Personally I would never pay the prices M&S want for underwear, particularly bras, as I think they are ridiculous

Longhairmightcare · 23/06/2017 09:54

The trick is to pop in often, as they change stock literally by the week. So you might find nothing but then the next week they'll have some good stuff in. If there is something nice the 'average' sizes tend to go out of stock fast so they're not the type of purchases to sleep on.

Best recent purchase has been a 2m dual headed (iPhone & mini USB) charger cable for £3.50. Works perfectly and I can now charge my phone and kindle (separately) off the same charger and the length is excellent. You'd pay 6x that price elsewhere.

I've also got a fabulous sequinned clutch bag I got reduced for £2 about 6 years ago. It looks so so expensive, is heavy and satin lined with a removable strap, you'd never peg it as primark. I thought I'd lost it during a sort out recently was genuinely gutted, but it turned up in the bottom of a box a few months later I was overjoyed!

Good for kids clothes and holiday wardrobe. Also for 'fashion' items like currently e.g. Bardot tops and the frills trend that you can buy cheaply to update a look but not break the bank and don't feel guilty about charity shopping them after a short while.

My nearest primark is over 4 floors and can be hellish, you have to pick your time. Never go in with a pram If you can help it! You'll be sweating and need a stiff drink. I used to go at 6pm after work when I worked in town which was much better than trying to go at lunchtime or the weekend.
