Do you wear SPF under your makeup?

I'm going on holiday soon, do I wear suncream under my makeup or over it?
Am I going to look cakey?
I know, I know, I should just leave off the foundation but my skin isn't great Confused

I bought Biore from Japan. Thank you to the posters who recommended it on my thread from aaages ago, it's brilliant.
La Roche is great too.

Do.Not.Rely.On.Foundation.SPF.

Laquila · 22/06/2017 11:49

Bioré Watery Essence is bloody brilliant.

I've seen one called Altruist (only SPF30 though) on Amazon that I like the look of - has anyone tried it?

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2017 12:03

I'm using Liz Earle foundation with SPF 30 I think, she also makes a solid powder compact, that includes an SPF. I avoid the middle of the day when it's possible (I always wear a hat too) but the 2 seem to work very well.

chloechloe · 22/06/2017 12:05

Thanks ollivander will look out for those sellers. Am just a bit wary as done sellers offer a two pack for the same price as others selling a single tube which makes me suspicious.

Ollivander84 · 22/06/2017 12:10

I always check the feedback and buy from eBay shops generally. Probably bought 50+ things Blush of Korean skincare, the only problem I had was one not arriving and that was Jolse who instantly refunded me

ppeatfruit · 22/06/2017 12:13

chloe I think it's worth paying more for better quality products. Liz Earle isn't cheap but it's not that expensive either.

Ollivander84 · 22/06/2017 12:16

Confused Biore watery essence is good quality. Japanese sunscreens are some of the best, and more cosmetically elegant than UK ones. They're ahead of the UK X 100 in that respect and in other skincare and makeup too
Look at all the cushion makeup available here - that started years ago in Japan

EpoxyResin · 22/06/2017 13:08

I quietly admitted to my face-guru friend that I relied on the SPV in foundations and she IMMEDIATELY took me to Boots and instructed me to select a facial sunscreen from one of the French pharmacy brands. I went for La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL. I have never looked back.

GreyBird84 · 22/06/2017 13:12

I use altruist as I have had melanoma it's good still leaves a slight film.

I wear fake tan & just don't bother with make up.

I love sunsense sports gel it's super dry.

squoosh · 22/06/2017 13:30

I wasn’t crazy about the Biore watery essence, I prefer a more moisturising sunscreen for my skin. But maybe the Biore Bright Milk mentioned upthread might be worth investigating.

Currently I use the Vichy face fluid spf 50 (I like the dry touch one, it’s not matt but it doesn’t leave a puddle of grease on your face)

Fibbertigibbet · 22/06/2017 17:40

Every day! Biore or Etude house. Non-greasy and stays on under make-up.

RubyGoat · 22/06/2017 17:44

I wear Biore (2017) & don't find it leaves a white cast. Am pale though... but I don't wear foundation.

TurnipCake · 22/06/2017 21:12

I wear SPF every day without fail. I'm happy to use a cheap bland cleanser and splurge on SPF that has a matte finish to go under make up

CookieDoughKid · 22/06/2017 21:17

Biore/etude house/La Roche-Posay Anthelios and I will put it all over my face (right up to hairline), neck, and ears generously to get adequate coverage as recommended by dermotologist and doctor Dr. Sam Bunting

Laquila · 22/06/2017 22:58

GreyBird do you find the Altruist greasy?

I've never heard of Etude House - is it a similar texture to Bioré?

XiCi · 23/06/2017 06:08

I would definitely try and leave off the foundation in the day of you're going somewhere hot. LRP and Ultrasun do tinted SPF50 that are really nice

Biore is great for everyday use but not for holidays. It's not waterproof or sweatproof so you could burn to a crisp on the beach. It's marketed in Japan as a commuting spf ie for light use travelling to work and back home.

Samoyedydog · 23/06/2017 07:04

I'm using Ultrasun anti aging spf 50 at the moment and it is sooooooo greasy on me Sad it looks fine when I put it on and then by the time I get to work I look in the mirror and my face is mega shiny!! I don't know what to try next

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2017 16:41

I'll look at the LRP Anthelios one , I'm quite sensitive and the Liz Earle is the only one I've used that doesn't make me look like a nun it's only a SPF 15 though. I use a fairly rich Weleda moisturiser first.

XiCi · 23/06/2017 17:28

The Anthelios XL lotion is great. Spf50, no white cast and does not leave my skin oily

ppeatfruit · 23/06/2017 17:31

Thanks XICI Does it have a lot of titanium in it? See I don't mind a bit oily because I have dry skin.

Cheesymonster · 24/06/2017 17:10

Bumping just to thank nezzy for the Hawaiian Tropic recommendation, I love it. I got the silk soft one, £6.99 in Superdrug.

QueenoftheAndals · 24/06/2017 17:53

I've finally found the holy grail of sunscreens that doesn't make me shiny and that's LRP Anthelios gel-creme. Am in Paris atm so have snapped up a couple of bottles for €8 as they're at least £12 at Boots.

Ktown · 24/06/2017 17:58

Ultra sun 30 is less greasy and is soothing anthelios dry touch is good
Biore watery Essence is dodgy as it doesn't last and isn't sweat nor even slightly waterproof - great texture but I wouldn't trust it longer than an hour outside

redj5 · 24/06/2017 20:31

I just use Boots' Soltan Face SPF30 (the dry touch one I think). Is it ok to just use an 'own' brand? I guess the other expensive ones mentioned here are about the feel on your face and stickiness/shiny-ness?

My other question is are you meant to put it on under make up or on top? I always read different advice!

ScattyHattie · 25/06/2017 01:16

I bought some spf50 LRP Anthelios anti-shine gel and really like it, goes on well & feels nice. I wore it over moisturizer (cheeks) and my make up sits well on top, actually better than the primer I have.
I ended up testing it on a bit of hike on a warm day & was feeling pretty sweaty after but make up stayed put with only bit of shine that some blotting paper solved. My companion got sunburned ( declined offer of suncream)
I bought some soltan once, face before, but it made my face super shiny as soon as put on & had a spot outbreak after.
