Bags. Normal bags not super expensive bags.

I'm in love with this but it's more than I've ever spent on a bag before (am really not a bag person - just want something to stick a purse in). Are Fossil bags good quality? Do you think it would get dirty really quickly? Would I be better off with black? Should I treat myself, or might I find something more useful/durable for less? Opinions, please!

I like it. I have two Fossil bags and they're nice leather and durable. Tan would be nice for summer and would go with everything. What colours do you like to wear?

coralush · 13/06/2017 18:38

It's a lovely bag. Very stylish. It will last you years. I want one now!!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2017 19:01

Thank you.

I don't wear many colours at all - black, grey, bit of white, bit of red or pink. Blue denim. That's pretty much it.

I could do with a small bag like that cos my shoulders and back are shot... Anyway I have to say I spend as little as I can on them. This is only partly cos I just don't understand bag-love. It's also because I trash them. Pens leak, zips break, linings rip, buckles turn inside out (yes honestly). Of course it's possible that if I spent more, they would last longer but I'm not convinced. I just think I'm a bag killer.

But if you normally treat yours well and if you love it then it does look quite like a decent bag and I've heard good things about Fossil. I'd go for tan myself but then I don't wear much black and I think you do.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2017 19:17

I'm also a bag killer - and quite a mucky bugger!

I really like this bag, I'm tempted to buy it myself as I love the pink detail!

I saw this and another bag in the same leather in a shop though and they both had very visible scratches on which put me off. I'm both sure if that's from them simply being handled without care in a department store though. I think if you looked after it it would be fine though, you can always rub leather cream on to any scratches.

I think the beauty of this bag is in the colour and the black ones are not nearly as nice!

libertydoddle · 13/06/2017 19:29

It's really lovely - main staining risk with tan bags IME is dark indigo denim transferring onto it. But if you treat it with leather protector cream before you start using it and give it the occasional clean then it should be fine.

Floisme · 13/06/2017 19:50

Hmm... a fellow bag killer. I have to say, that would put me off. It's the same reason I don't normally buy expensive shoes. But I hate to think of not buying something you love. Maybe think about how you'd feel if you spilt something on it within a few months and wrecked it - would you feel you'd wasted your money or would you think, well it was fun while it lasted?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2017 20:01

I think it would get dirty and that I'd be sad. :( Definitely couldn't afford to replace it quickly - at that price I'd want it to last a couple of years, not months.

But i love it - it's the pink that 'makes' it for me.

It's vairy nice, and I understand, from MN not personal experience, that Fossil wear pretty well, especially if you treat it with waterproofing and leather cream before first use. Collonil is good (have tried this) and doesn't darken the colour very much as some sprays and creams do. And put the tops back on your pens! It's a lot to spend but the shape is nicely classic.

Love it and yes the pink trim makes it.
I don't have any fossils though I'm tempted by that beauty. Fiorelli is a nice wee make too and very affordable. I buy one every season.

Unicorn81 · 13/06/2017 20:22

Fossil are amazing, i buy mine from outlets and well worth the money. Will last forever

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2017 20:22

I do like Fiorelli generally (and like their prices!) but can't see anything currently that is as beautiful as the Fossil one.

I like the idea of Fossil. I have had one or two decent bags. But (about to commit MN heresy), the best inexpensive bags by a long chalk are from Next: am always being asked where they come from, zips always work, and being totally plastic they never wear out.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 13/06/2017 20:32

I've got the tan piper toaster bag from fossil. It's fab. Understated. Well made.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 13/06/2017 20:34

Don;t want plastic, but will look at Next leather ones. Not near a Fossil outlet, unfortunately.

That's a gorgeous bag! I want one too but cannot justify any non-essential expense at the moment. I've got an old Fossil bag, I'm not sure of the name but it's in a similar tan leather. It's quite battered and a bit dirty but still looks lovely, like its full of character! I don't think you can go wrong with soft tan leather - but it!

Judydreamsofhorses · 13/06/2017 22:36

That bag is lovely, but too wee for me! I tend to use the same bag day in, day out rather than have different bags for different outfits/occasions - other than a small vintage one I use for going out "nice". My current bag is a Jigsaw cross-body one, a kind of slouchy satchel, which I got half price in the sale about this time last year. It's worn brilliantly, and the leather has aged beautifully - the full price was close to £200, and I'd gladly pay that for it tomorrow.

Short version - I'd really recommend having a look at Jigsaw if you're considering "good but not designer" leather bags.

That's really nice. I have seen fossil come up on zalando lounge every now and again if it's something you can wait for (but you could be waiting ages!)
