Does this rug go with my room

I've had my living room revamped. I've got a pale laminate, a taupe grey colour. One black leather 3 seater sofa. A tv on a black glass stand. White fire as shown. Curtains as shown. In an alcove an Art Deco type lady table with glass top.
At the other end of the rooom I'm waiting for a black / white Art Deco type dining set with black glass top

My DIL complains there's no colour in the room so I thought I might get a rug

Do you think this Ikea button rug would go.

I don't want flowery

It would clash horribly with your curtains.

This is the dining set I'm waiting for

No. It is a beautiful rug but no way suitable with the curtains.

burnishedsilver · 06/06/2017 00:01

Yes, it will go but i think that the the buttons might look a bit "playroom".

MargotLovedTom1 · 06/06/2017 00:02
Grin Suggestion would be a plain rug when you have patterned curtains. Maybe a shaggy one with a coffee table on top?
ifcatscouldtalk · 06/06/2017 00:05

I think plain rug would look better. The rug you have posted would look quite busy and out of place. This is coming from a lady who has been having decorating meltdowns latelyGrin. Btw love the fireplace.

Dowser · 06/06/2017 00:05

Yes, I thought circles would be better than buttons.
That's why I asked as I wasn't sure.

This is where I always fall down. Get the room almost right and then it's that last little bit.
Still there's no rush.

Thanks

The IKEA rug needs an IKEA environment - lots of bold colours including that apple green colour of which their designers are very fond (seen on the green button on the rug), white high gloss furniture etc etc.

PeachPearPotato · 06/06/2017 01:35

Maybe easier to change the curtains?

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 01:56

How about running with the idea of Art Deco to pull it all together? A google image search for "Art Deco patterns" immediately gives you wonderful examples like these.

If you could find something along those lines with some gold in it, it would warm the whole room up a bit too.

My seven year old DD has that rug in her bedroom. I love it but I'm not sure I would have it elsewhere in the house.

loopyloppy · 06/06/2017 02:29

Serfterf- lovely!!!!

SerfTerf · 06/06/2017 02:42

Which one do you like loopy?

I'm tempted by the zigzag one myself. The shell pattern one is nice too. It's dangerous, window shopping in the small hours Smile

CondensedMilkSarnies · 06/06/2017 02:51

What about something like these ? I think you've got similar colours in the curtains .

I don't think any of those patterned rugs would go with the floral curtains. I did think, as peach said, that it would be easier to change the curtains to plain ones, then introduce pattern with rugs and cushions.

Dowser · 06/06/2017 08:05

I like the shells one serfterf
Thank you for your help.
Yes you're right about mixing patterns and I'm so glad I asked before buying the buttons one.

I think a plain one would be the way to go if keeping the curtains.
The dining set should arrive today or tomorrow.
That'll keep dh busy.
Then there's the computer and table in the other half that's waiting to go.

I'll get that other half all sorted and then maybe look for a tomato red shade of one.
I need to wash the curtains.
Spent a fortune so far on the house and haven't tackled the garden yet. Got that joy to come.
Thank you all for your help.

Sorry, I think that IKEA rug is only really suitable for playrooms, nurseries or children's bedrooms.

I think made.com do colourful rugs that are much more 'grown up' if you want to have a look there. More expensive than IKEA though.

loopyloppy · 06/06/2017 11:35

Serf- all of them! But particularly the middle two on the right. Star

blueskyinmarch · 06/06/2017 11:37

That button rug would look terrible. You need a much classier rug for your room.
