Contact lens success stories?

I hate wearing glasses. I feel so grumpy even though I've got a nice pair that suit my face.

I've tried contacts and can wear them for a few hours but then have to take them out as they feel so gritty. I'm on Acuvue daily moist.

Anyone had the same issue and managed to find a pair of contacts that they can wear all day?

Have started googling eye laser surgery but it freaks me out a bit 😬

I'm with specsavers but may try another optician if anyone says they've had any success stories.

Gas permeable? Much better for your eyes as they let more oxygen in.

Acuvue oasys are the only ones I can wear

I wear Alcon continuous wear lenses. I sleep in them and wear for up to 30 days. It's life changing.

I've had these for anout 7 years now, after years of wearing normal monthlies. I did have to demonstrate that I had good hygiene and healthy eyes!

You have to have 6 monthly checks but I love them

Acuvue TruEye don't even feel like normal contacts

Have you tried eye drops? Might help without having to go through hassle of changing lenses.

I can wear acuvue oasys 2 weeklies but struggle with acuvue moist dailies. You can now get acuvue oasys dailies which are also fab. I would not suggest gas permeable...takes a while to get used to the feeling of something in your eye. Acuvue all the way!

You need monthly lenses. When I tried dailies they made my eyes too dry so I went back to monthlies.

I used to use specsavers monthlies which are great but I got used to buying my dailies online so looked at monthlies online to as they're cheaper.

Acuvue Oasys two weeklies here too! Daily lenses didn't work for me. My eyes got too dry and the lenses would fall out sometimes. Worth a try?

My son has been wearing contact lenses since December and has had no problems with ' BioTrue by Bausch & Lomb' dailies. He wears them all day for school and doesn't take them out until about 8pm.

Another vote for monthly lenses. Specsavers do a high water content own brand for £13 a month. They are the only one I can wear. I've been wearing contact lenses for about 22 years and no problems.

I agree the monthly ones are much better than dailies. DS had laser surgery and says it is the best money he has ever spent. I don't think it's for the faint hearted but the recovery was quick and he could see perfectly later the same day. If you are struggling with lenses it's worth serious consideration.

Monthlies are the answer. I find dailies agonising. And make sure you clean them well between wears as that makes a huge difference to comfort

Acuvue oasys two weeklies. Great for me and I have dry eyes.

My very best dailies are Dailies Total 1 which are brilliant for dry eyes. I produce near to no tears so I know dry eyes unfortunately! These contacts plus good eye drops (Hycosan) work well for me. I put a couple of drops into the lense before I put them in.

I've never tried monthlies but different optometrists have steered me away from them due to my particular dry eye condition.

It's probably also worth mentioning dailies that haven't worked for me are Acuvue Tru Eye and Clariti 1 Day (the latter weren't too bad)

I am the opposite. I just couldnt wear monthlies. They made my eyes too dry and i ended up getting lots of gunk on them that i couldn't see through them! The gunk was so bad, my eyes were crusty in the morning! The optician recommended daily lenses. I have no issues with acuvue moist daily ones. Strange how others find them drying!

I second rubybleu ciba total 1 are by far and away the best lenses I have ever worn. I have very very dry eyes and with a good eye drop I can manage a comfortable 12-14 hours.

Acuvue moist in comparison I can only just manage a comfortable 8 hours even with drops

They are expensive though but well worth it to me

I thought you should only wear your lenses for 10-12 hours at the most?

I don't wear them that long every day as I'm happy to put my glasses on when I get home from work but it's nice to have the option of being able to wear them longer if I need to (on the rare occasion I go out late at the weekend!) 😊

I wear dailies called Clariti, which are silicon with a really high water content. I went from monthlies - fortnightly - weekly - dailies as I got older as my eyes have become more and more dry. I tried about 20 brands of dailies before I found one I was comfortable with, so it's worth experimenting to find the right one - my optician gave me five day trials of lots of brands free.

I am going to say the opposite to everyone else based on my recent trip to the optician.

I've been wearing contact lenses since I was at primary school so the best part of 2 decades and never had dry eyes until now! Started on 3 monthly ones but got into trouble for overwear as they didnt let much oxygen through. Acuvue Oasys are very good for letting oxygen through (because they are made of silicon) and that's why you can wear them overnight (but if you do that you have to change them more often). However recently for the first time ever I started getting dry and gritty eyes. Went to the optician who was a contact lens specialist and was brilliant. She basically said my conjunctiva are inflamed (probably seasonal from hayfever) and because the Oasys are thick from all the silicon they are irritating and being dragged off my eyes when I blink (TMI!).

She switched then to Alcon Dailies 1 which are so comfortable. I have to switch back after 2 weeks. She said if they are still sore try eye drops (sodium cromoglicate). She also said try an antihistamine, but tbh I don't feel like my usual hayfever is back yet.

So I'm wondering if it's a bad time of year to try or maybe you could try some eye drops for a couple of weeks. Then I would try dailies and not overwear them, then build up to 2-weekly ones like acuvue oasys if you want something you can wear for longer.

I've been wearing Ciba Night and Day successfully for 10 years (they are silicone hydrogel/extended wear monthlies like Acuvue Oasys, I rarely wear them overnight though). Before that 20 years happily in gas permeables.

So, pretty well all my waking hours for 30+ years and my eyes are still in tip-top health, although I'm getting the first signs of dryness now so may have to rethink. Definitely worth going back to the optician and trying different types.
