Best SPF 50 for under makeup

SuffolkNWhat · 20/05/2017 13:46

As summer haha approaches I'm thinking I need better spf coverage under my makeup.

I've only just been able to start using makeup due to finding an eczema treatment that actually works so my previous approach of slapping on P20 won't really work (it's too greasy to wear under foundation)

I've seen loads of high spf creams advertised but am not sure which are best! I currently use a moisturiser with spf 15 but I'm a classic redhead who needs a higher protection.

BodyShop do good SPF facial creams

Dailystuck71 · 20/05/2017 13:49

SPF 50 will likely make you make up look chalky and your face pale. Just use an spf 30. No proven difference I don't think between 30 and 50.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/05/2017 13:51

Sunsense Daily Face is good under makeup. I don't often wear make up but I sometimes used to use it as a primer under evening make up because it's very stable on the skin and stopped my foundation from sliding off.

SuffolkNWhat · 20/05/2017 13:52

Thanks for the body shop tip have seen one that might work.

I'm not sure about going to SPF 30 as I burn very very quickly and when I've used them previously (as in regular sun cream) I've burned far quicker than with my trusted spf 50

Is that the one with the tint Black ? Is it very tinted as I'm blue very pale!

agree about not much difference in 30 and 50 SPF if using a chemical one. Apparently the extra chemicals needed to increase the level of SPF aren't worth the minimal increase in protection.

ggirl · 20/05/2017 13:57

Dr Sam Bunting has done some good videos on you tube about SPF , I find her quite awkward on videos but she gives good info. She rated the La roche possay sunscreens as well as some other quite expensive ones

barfotoliv · 20/05/2017 13:58

Clinique City Block comes in SPF 25 and 40 and is great under make up or alone. I searched for my perfect SPF for years and this one is the business

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 20/05/2017 13:59

It is tinted, I'm very pale (celtic but not redhead, so probably darker than you) and you can tell I'm wearing it when there's nothing over the top but you can't see it at all under make up.

burnishedsilver · 20/05/2017 13:59

Body Shop skin defence works well for me under make up. For later in the day la roche posay do a factor 50 facial spray that goes on over make up like a fine mist. You wouldnt even know it was there but I never burn through it, even on sun holidays.

jimjimjamming · 20/05/2017 14:03

Sunsense 50 tinted. Aussie brand. Very light, sheer finish. Not at all chalky. Stings if you get it in your eyes but otherwise fab.

olderthanyouthink · 20/05/2017 14:03

I believe 30 lets through 7% of UV and 50 lets through 3/4% so halving it.

I use a 50 and I do not look chalky at all (i'm not white, it would be obvious), chemical suncreams dont have the chalky effect but physical ones do (titanium/zinc ones).

I dont wear make but this is the one I use [[https://www.laroche-posay.co.uk/anthelios-xl-ultra-light-fluid-spf-50 ANTHELIOS
ANTHELIOS XL ULTRA LIGHT FLUID SPF 50+]] there's a tinted one too.

Mammatron · 20/05/2017 14:05

Another vote for the body shop one!

RosieCockle · 20/05/2017 15:53

I bought the Body Shop SPF 50 (skin defence or something) one last weekend and I like it as it soaks it quickly and is thin. Not chalky at all. Makeup goes on fine over the top. I also us LRP Anthelios SPF 50 tinted fluid. Both are great.

Johnlegendswife · 20/05/2017 19:29

Another vote for Clinique citiblock. I wear the spf 25 version under make up all year round. It's not greasy, absorbs quickly and acts as a primer too!

harrietm87 · 20/05/2017 19:49

I use the same anthelios one from la Roche Posay as olderthanyouthink and it's good - about £15 from boots.

Fibbertigibbet · 20/05/2017 20:02

Etude House Sunprise Must Daily. Order from eBay, it's surprisingly cheap, good quality, moisturising but not greasy, doesn't leave a white cast. They do an oil free version too, but I haven't tried that.

Raaaaaah · 20/05/2017 20:05

Skinceuticals is amazing. Bloody expensive but so much better in terms of consistency.

justasecond · 20/05/2017 20:54

This is very good under makeup
www.darphin.co.uk/product/8432/21668/skincare/category/best-sellers/intral-shield-spf50/for-sensitive-skin/index.tmpl

I used to love Mac Prep and prime spf50 but they must have changed the formulation as it started to smell horrible on the skin after a few hours wear

SoftBlocks · 20/05/2017 20:58

Anthelios XL here too. Fine under makeup although I'm a bit shiny by 5 pm I would be anyway as I have really oily skin.

SuffolkNWhat · 20/05/2017 20:59

Thanks for all your recommendations, I'm heading to Boots tomorrow so will have a look for those mentioned.

Sali Hughes did a column on this in the Guardian last week which might be worth a look

CuileanDubh · 20/05/2017 21:47

Another one for Anthelios XL. Brilliant stuff for me.

AnUnhappyStudent · 21/05/2017 07:55

Biore Watery essence on Amazon £10. It is brilliant

ChishandFips33 · 21/05/2017 08:17

Anthelios here too
