Best SPF 50 for under makeup

SuffolkNWhat · 20/05/2017 13:46

As summer haha approaches I'm thinking I need better spf coverage under my makeup.

I've only just been able to start using makeup due to finding an eczema treatment that actually works so my previous approach of slapping on P20 won't really work (it's too greasy to wear under foundation)

I've seen loads of high spf creams advertised but am not sure which are best! I currently use a moisturiser with spf 15 but I'm a classic redhead who needs a higher protection.

I have very sensitive skin, and use Ultrasun Sun Protection Supersize Anti-Pigmentation Face SPF50+, it's fab.

Another vote for Biore watery essence

Anthelios is good, but the watery essence is GREAT

eyespydreams · 21/05/2017 17:24

Biore watery essence here!

FrustratedFrugal · 21/05/2017 17:26

Biore for me too. It is a great base for makeup.

Maraki · 21/05/2017 21:08

Biore watery essence SPF50 (from Amazon) is brilliant. It's watery, absobs immediately and you don't feel it all on your skin. I was convinced that it was too watery to actually work until I got sunburnt with a thick layer of Ultrasun SPF30 on my body but my face (that had a thin film of Biore on) was fine.

I have found Sunsence too greasy.

Talisin · 21/05/2017 21:33

Biore Perfect Face Milk (Watery Essence doesn't absorb well on me and I end up very oily by the end of the day) which does apparently leave a slight white cast but doesn't show up on me as I'm so pale. There's also a Perfect Bright version which is tinted slightly pink thus avoiding the white problem. Hada Labo also do one which is very highly rated although I haven't tried it yet. Honestly, I've tried virtually all the western sunscreens at this point and none of them work under make up for me. Asian ones are so mch better.

AngelicaSchuylerChurch · 21/05/2017 23:02

Sali Hughes has been raving about Sarah Chapman Skinesis on instagram. Anyone tried it?

HappyAxolotl · 21/05/2017 23:12

Neutrogena Dry Touch certainly lives up to its name and comes in SPFs up to 100 (It is American, I don't know if they measure SPF differently?) You can get it from Amazon.

If you like BB cream, a lot of the Korean ones contain high SPFs. Missha and Holika Holika are two I've tried and liked.

Londonjam · 22/05/2017 12:38

Eucerin. I've tried loads as I have rosacea. This one is my favourite!

mintmagnummm · 22/05/2017 12:41

2nd for eucerin

mando12345 · 01/06/2017 13:43

What is the Uva rating for all these recommended creams, I like to go for a 5* Uva rating because Uva rays are very ageing and carcinogenic although they dont burn.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 01/06/2017 13:48

I like Kiehl's spf50 PA+++ (a rating of UVA protection - + = low, ++ = moderate, +++ = high).

All Ultrasun spf50 is broad spectrum with both high quality UVA & UVB protection.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 01/06/2017 13:51

The 1-5 star rating scale is a UK measure of UVA protection. The + scale is used in Asia.

SweetLuck · 01/06/2017 14:18

What did you do to sort out your excezma?

OCSockOrphanage · 01/06/2017 15:34

Bioré Watery Essence here. There is also a CC cream with SPF50, but it may be harder to find. I got mine in Asia when the Watery Essence was sold out all over SE Asia. It is brilliant, the best.

Pyaar · 01/06/2017 20:06

Dermalogica factor 50 is lovely and isnt chalky at all

FurbysMakeSexNoises · 01/06/2017 20:53

Another Bioré fan- cheap as well as soaks in well and effective. Do most people get theirs from Amazon?

YouWouldntLetItLie · 01/06/2017 21:36

do you have to reapply the Biore through the day? I use Ultrasun SPF 30/50 mainly because I can put it on first thing and not have to worry about reapplying over make up.

(Seriously, do manufacturers honestly think women are going to remove all their make-up after 2-3 hrs, apply more sun screen, then make-up again? On holiday when you're not wearing much, maybe, but otherwise...?)

LittleMysMoominMamma · 01/06/2017 21:54

I've used the Biore Watery Gel for a good few years and absolutely loved it, lightweight, great under makeup etc. Then I bought the new 2017 formulation (from a very reliable eBay seller in Japan that I've used many times) - it feels like it's burning my skin!

After three uses I've had to give up, I have red blister like marks on my face. Gutted. I'd love to know if anyone else has had issues with the new formulation Sad

spankhurst · 01/06/2017 21:55

Another vote for City Block.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 02/06/2017 00:24

I've always liked Biore but am less certain of the new formulation. I reckon the new version is creating a white cast. If so then I need to avoid the new type and revert to the old if it still exists.

SuffolkNWhat · 02/06/2017 03:06

@SweetLuck

I used a Chinese herbal cream called Yiganerjing. A colleague recommended it as it had cleared up the eczema on his back. I was very dubious so tried it on a small patch on my forehead first. I now use it once a week after using it daily until the eczema was gone. Obviously you have to be careful with products on your face so always patch test first but it has been brilliant for me. Another bonus is that a tube lasts for ages and only costs £1.99 from my local Chinese supermarket.

The new Elemis PCMC spf 30 is lovely as is the Alpha H spf 50. No residue no chalkiness both feel lovely on the skin.

vickifaith · 02/06/2017 06:38

Thanks for posting was only thinking about a good SPF the other day! Xx
