Sorry for your loss NU Flowers

Dreamqueen · 22/05/2017 06:28

NU sending you condolences and a hug.

Blackduck · 22/05/2017 06:57

Fingers crossed for those facing English today....

I'm off to Nottingham (oh joy)

NUFC69 · 22/05/2017 08:43

Thank you for all the kind wishes. We have known the couple for over 30 years so they have been a part of our lives for a long time. He had a heart attack one Saturday morning about ten years ago when we were playing badminton. He is the first of our close friends to die and, selfish I know, but it has made me very aware of our mortality.

It's a lovely day here, but we'll be stuck inside all afternoon as we have someone coming to clean the carpets.

Enjoy your trip, BD. Ominous silence from the parents of those taking exams today, so I hope everything is ok?

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2017 09:02

Yes, English Literature and Geography today. DD1 had to be dropped off at school at 8am for pre-exam revision, so I had the added bonus Hmm of getting to work early. DD2, with a face like thunder, also had to go in early, as DS is gaming revising at home today.

Soooo....Pageant all done and dusted, and it all went swimmingly! It started with a trek up the main street with the local councillor, the outgoing May Queen (in her finery, with her dad's raincoat over her head) and two photographers, to award trophies to the Best Dressed house/shop. Followed by a quick scoot back up the road to check out the Fancy Dress Ponies. For those who didn't see the WhatsApp pic, I then joined the procession on the back of a Harley. I've no idea who was on the front end - a random biker from the local H-D club - no doubt delighted to have a shrieking and slightly lardy 50yo in a tiny tennis dress leap on behind him. The DCs were mortified (I also took part in a Zumba demo, still in my tennis outfit, just to finish them off).

Then yesterday was the fun part - litter picking and tidying up. Lest you think it's all wholesome country living, I have to give a special mention to the local yoof, for going out late in the evening to push all the bins over, tip the chemical toilets into the hedge and break glass all over the playground. Angry

magimedi · 22/05/2017 09:02

I don't think that's a selfish reaction at all, it's quite normal. Sending you love.

CointreauVersial · 22/05/2017 09:05

Meant to add....so sorry to hear about your friend, NU. Flowers

MsMartini · 22/05/2017 09:23

Not selfish, NU. All very sad. Thinking of you.

CV, I love your tales of village life.

Rosenspants · 22/05/2017 09:38

So sorry, NU. the loss of a dear friend leaves such a hole in one's life. Flowers
All my hopes for the DC taking exams this morning, that things run as smoothly as possible, Beachy Tilly CV and others.

CV Grin You are clearly a pillar of your local community! I would suggest a bit of community service for the vandals......

hattymattie · 22/05/2017 09:51

OK - I thought Mrs Martini was CV I see this is not the case - also not sure who Mrs Margarita is - more PM's please - I'm getting there slowly crepies.

motherinferior · 22/05/2017 10:01

All sent off OK here, after today's breakfast (mashed avocado on new granary bread with a small bowl of strawberries and toasted almond flakes on the side, should anyone care). I told her to be Bloody Bold and Resolute as it's Macbeth. She looked sceptical.

A very boring cousin of DP's is in town and I must be nice to him tonight.

Montypulciano · 22/05/2017 10:14

Have reverted to old name. My life is so dull that I can't imagine any random stalker being interested in it.

Cv, your village life sounds lovely and the pics were great. V v envious. Less great about the hooligans, though.

Hugs to you today, Nu. It is so very sad Flowers

Good luck to all exam takers and their long suffering mamas.

4 weeks til Spain. Everything feels right clothes wise so I will up the walking and decrease the Wine.

More dental antics for the dds today. Have had a quiet word with the dentist (a friend) and she is going to read dd1 riot act re brace cleaning. I am sure that this will go down like a lead balloon.

Loving the warmer weather. Might work in garden later on.

motherinferior · 22/05/2017 10:23

NU, I wanted to say that I too think it's not at all selfish: like the man said, 'send not to know for whom the bell tolls/it tolls for thee'. Our mortality is so fragile.

hattymattie · 22/05/2017 10:43

Ah no I know who Mrs Martini is - it's just Mrs Margarita.Confused

Cremolafoam · 22/05/2017 10:45

Absolutely unselfish NU. Hope the carpet people are not too disruptive. Im sure you could do with a bit of p&q.

FlipflopsOrWellieboots · 22/05/2017 11:49

Ds gone in, looked a bit more together after yesterday's very wobbly hours. It went 'better than expected' so that's ok Smile I can't quite believe how physically sick and anxious I feel all the time he's in an exam. It's like a mirror to what he's feeling - I find it quite disturbing.....

Cremolafoam · 22/05/2017 12:03

Oh Flipflops that must be awful. You poor thing. Good that ds has managed today well.

bigTillyMint · 22/05/2017 12:58

Fitflops, thats exactly the same for me - I waa fine last week as DS wasnt so nervous, but felt ill this morning (definitely not due to unblocking the loo!) And i felt like that on virtually every one of DDs exam days. Its horrid.

NU not selfish - of course it has affected you - so sad Flowers

motherinferior · 22/05/2017 13:58

I have had lunch in the garden. I feel v chilled.

NoCureForLove · 22/05/2017 15:18

Catching up and pleased to see some sort of normality has resumed on here... phew!

Stinking cold much better - the drugs I took yesterday to get through dinner worked too well a treat - I felt positively off my trolley perky. Can't believe you can buy them in the supermarket! Won't be doing that again in a hurry. Am taking it easy today as not much on that I have to do and hope to be properly better for the rest of the week...

Sorry to hear your sad news NU. What a shock and very sad. Not surprised you are so upset. Take care.

Glad to hear the examinees are being stoic. DS2 has 2 tomorrow - I can hear him whistling loudly to himself upstairs so can report he doesn't seem too anxious!

CVI loved your description of Village Fete antics - as you know I am able to picture the exact location - and it made me laugh. next year can we all come and cheer you on? Would be a great day out!

Beautiful day here - summer even.

herbaceous · 22/05/2017 15:19

I have taught three lessons of HLSs, and am alive. Feel kinda groovy that I prevailed.

magimedi · 22/05/2017 15:52

Herbs, have you thought of Eastbourne for your move? Loads of English schools, 3 theatres, easy access to Brighton but 1.5 hours by train, which may be too much for you.

THIS sort of thing is close to the sea front & you could practice your pole dancing! Grin

motherinferior · 22/05/2017 15:58

I am ogling some Tu red broderie tops...

Cremolafoam · 22/05/2017 16:15

Herbs , you could just buy Magi's house and that would sort you bith out.Grin
Glad you are still alive, poor Herbs.

I am shattered today after all that creativity 🙃 having little catnaps at work.

hattymattie · 22/05/2017 16:32

Well done Herbs. I just did the primary 2 and they were angels- much relief.

Flipflops - I know how you feel - I have this with DD2 - less so for DD1. So far DD2 - one good exam and one "absolutely terrible". My highs and lows are directly linked to this information. Sending strength as I know your situation is more extreme than mine.
