Easy holiday dress for summer

It took me ages to find some candidates for this year that weren't off-shoulder and covered with frills or weirdness. Thought I'd share the ones I'm happy with (these could also be handy school run dresses Wink:

Zara striped - this is very simple and easy to wear. The 20% polyester is a shame but otherwise, great simple dress.

Zara tunic - again v easy to wear - maybe best for short people like me though.

Gap tank dress - also got it in navy marl.

I got the Zara tunic in charcoal, btw. Looks much nicer than the red.

Hang on

  • do you want recommendations for

a) holiday dresses - good in a resort but perhaps not what you'd wear at home
b) the school run dress in the MN jargon sense
c) something that - if any poster ever actually dress for the school run (as opposed to the in-joke) - they would actually wear for school-running specifically?

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:07

I don't want any recommendations! I've found what I need Smile

For me a holiday dress and the MN SRD (at least the hot-summer specific SRD) is actually the same thing. Very easy and unstructured and something to grab and pull on. Others may have a different definition. In fact I'm pretty sure others do!

in fact -
a) holiday dresses - good in a resort but perhaps not what you'd wear at home

  • the offerings this year were just so terrible that I had to buy something that I WOULD wear at home. Couldn't spend money on that shite.

The Zara links don't work for me.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 15/05/2017 11:11

I once bought a neon dress so the DC could easily spot me on a beach.

It's a family horror story! And still in the wardrobe, just as a threat I'll wear it somewhere where their friends might see me....

Ethelswith · 15/05/2017 11:14

This doesn't look good on the hanger, but is perfect MN/SRD (in my mind, anyhow, as it hangs just right)

Trampire · 15/05/2017 11:15

None of those links work for me.

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:15

rollon do they not?sorry! Working fine for me but maybe if you're on a mobile device you have to confirm the country or something before you're taken to the link?

unmentioned so many of the bikinis this year are neon. Probably the same every year but GOD. You've got to be so young and dark skinned to pull that shit off.

"The Zara links don't work for me."

They are to two tunics. One teams with really rather startling trousers (which appear to have nicked the trimmings from an Edwardian lampshade)

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:18

Just checked and the Gap link doesn't work on my phone Angry sorry, not sure how to fix the links so everyone can see them.

Zara links not working for me. Just goes to main Zara page.

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:19

lol@ edwardian lampshade

it's true

What is the second Zara tunic made of? For £19.99 I suspect viscose rather than cotton, but I would be happy to be wrong on that! (Viscose makes me sweat, but I like the tunic)

OP those are all tunics not dresses - at least for me and anyone else with less than amazing thighs.

I'm looking for summer dresses but I want knee length. And fitted round the waist rather than pillow case shaped.

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:25

gap tank dress (also got grey pattern version)

intransige I'm afraid you're right.

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:28

Thanks minipie, they do work for me. They're all knee length on me but as mentioned I'm a shortarse.

HalfStar · 15/05/2017 11:30

ethelswith are you very tall? I do kinda like that but could never wear it. I like the kind of austere vibe though. Toast have lovely stuff in for summer too though again it would not suit me.

OP posts:
Ethelswith · 15/05/2017 22:02

I don't think of myself as tall (because DMum and DSis are taller, so I'm used to thinking of myself as the little one). But I'm actually 5ft7 which is above average.

www.poetryfashion.co.uk/product-VM43-POEDS/dresses-skirts/hemp-cotton-jersey-dress.htm hangs well, but is shorter (just above knee) and there are more colours. Or www.poetryfashion.co.uk/product-VM25-POEDS/dresses-skirts/linen-and-cotton-knitted-dress.htm in a different fabric.

They're more early summer, when it's bright but not actually warm, and then they can pop out again in autumn (or keep going through the whole 'summer' in some places!)

calzone · 15/05/2017 22:21

Blimey

It's a good job we are all different as I'm not keen on any of the dresses on here......I definitely wouldn't grab a tunic for the school run.....

HalfStar · 16/05/2017 07:38

What would you grab (on a hot day) calzone?
