Easy holiday dress for summer

It took me ages to find some candidates for this year that weren't off-shoulder and covered with frills or weirdness. Thought I'd share the ones I'm happy with (these could also be handy school run dresses Wink:

Zara striped - this is very simple and easy to wear. The 20% polyester is a shame but otherwise, great simple dress.

Zara tunic - again v easy to wear - maybe best for short people like me though.

Gap tank dress - also got it in navy marl.

I'm not calzone, but this is more the kind of thing that would stand a chance of suiting me.

Or this would be good for days I haven't got round to leg shaving...

Basically I need a waist. Anything straight up and down looks like maternity wear on me. Those Poetry ones would make me look like i was wearing a large sack.

Actually Gap have a few promising options so thanks for inspiring me to look there OP! And also may I ask how tall you are - I'm 5'3 and have been discounting things as too short but maybe on me they would be long enough?

burnishedsilver · 16/05/2017 08:50

The Zara links are working fine for me because they link to the Irish site. The Zara links on other threads never work for me.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 16/05/2017 08:54

calzone what dresses are you keen on?

Especially those that you can just throw on without much thought, but which will be fine for most/all of your typical day.

HalfStar · 16/05/2017 09:15

minipie both of those Gap ones are cute, I like them (just a shame about the polyester but cotton seems to be out of the question these days). Agree that there are lots of cute summer options in Gap, so hope you find something.

I think this summer dress business is all about the parts of our bodies we feel self conscious about...I'm petite but dislike my arms and so automatically discount anything strappy that would give me danger of armpit bulge. And funny enough, your second option would make me look like a sack! (I do like it though.)

I'm 5'2. I'd only wear something short with bare legs on proper hot days fwiw.

burnished has solved the links mystery...

Oh are they polyester? Damn, hadn't spotted that. I prefer cotton too. H&M has had a few all-cotton gems in the past, though you have to hunt grey/Striped this one is all cotton and a fitted shape (my bum would look huge mind you)

grey marl this one is not bad either (cotton/modal)

Yes agree it's all about what you're willing to expose! I too prefer to cover my upper arms ideally but would rather have exposed arms and fitted waist than covered arms and no waist... (Covered arms and fitted waist is obv the ideal). Thighs never come out!

Branleuse · 16/05/2017 10:57

those zara links just go straight to zara homepage for me

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 16/05/2017 11:05

I quite like this

but hate yellow. Anyone seen similar in a different colour?

Oblomov17 · 16/05/2017 11:12

No links working at for me!!

Maudlinmaud · 16/05/2017 11:14

Anything white or cream works for me. I feel so fresh and summery in those colours. I mix it up with metallic or colourful shoes/sandals and a colourful pedicure. We had some nice weather last week, having a tan and wearing white perks me right up. Unfortunately today the rain is blowing in sideways so I'm back in trousers.

AliciaMayEmory · 16/05/2017 11:24

Love that yellow dress, unmentioned. I might have to order it as give it a try! I'm really struggling to find nice dresses this year. I'm tall with wide shoulders so the tunic style dresses just hang all wrong on me, but most other stuff is waisted and the waistline is too high on me so I look like I'm wearing a kid's dress. Am going to have to start running up my own, I think.

HalfStar · 16/05/2017 11:56

Pretty dress unmentioned, yellow seems to be huge this year.

maud - although I'm not a big wearer of white (I'd ruin it with suncream!) I'm with you on the metallic sandals + colourful pedi as a way to boost neutral clothes, especially if you're capsule packing. Have booked my first ever Shellac in fact for upcoming holiday. Think I'll go for the obvious coral red.

I've posted images of the original tunics dresses upthread btw for those who can't see links.

Halfstar I got mine done almost two weeks ago and they are still petfect. I've been in and out of shoes/sandals weather permitting. I went for barbie pink with a sparkly foil top coat. Not a colour I'd usually go for but pink is everywhere at the moment. I usually love coral.

Maudlinmaud · 16/05/2017 12:47

*perfect Blush

HalfStar · 16/05/2017 13:03

Ooh that' good to hear. I always thought I did an OK job of my own toenails - until I saw dsis's Shellac, then I was converted! Great feeling to see nice toes.

You can put your shoes straight on and everything Grin

Hippychickster · 16/05/2017 17:49

Ethelswith - I LOVE that first dress you put on. I've never heard of Poetry. In fact I liked it so much I've just ordered it!

Thanks

TheBitterBoy · 16/05/2017 17:59

I bought this dress from H&M yesterday, yes it's viscose, but very lightweight and comfy. I certainly won't be wearing it with builders jeans though!
