Shampoo for hormonal preteen

12yo dd is having problems with her hair. It's so greasy and lifeless. And even when she's just washed it it still smells (and pretty much looks) dirty.

I'm looking for a good shampoo that will really clean and dry up greasy dirty hair. And make it smell nice too. TiaSmile

The extraordinary clay Elvive shampoo is what I use for my own greasy and lifeless hair. It is brilliant.

Try the Lush solid shampoo bars. Smell lovely and add a bit of volume.

Redken Cleansing Cream.

I am EVANGELICAL about this product now. I had horrific greasy waxy hair due to hormonal changes when pregnant and breastfeeding. Even when freshly washed it looked like I had rubbed butter into the roots. I tried everything - vinegar, bicarbonate, baby shampoo, fairy liquid....
This is a super effective clarifying shampoo. Use it for a few times in a row then alternate it with a regular shampoo as it can be a bit drying. First time you use it larger up then leave the suds in for 5 mins and rinse. After a couple of washes hair will be swishy and amazing. It's about a tenner but you need a tiny tiny bit at a time. I buy online from Feel Unique or Look Fantastic. Don't waste your time with other stuff honestly get a bottle. It's amazing.

Very interested In this thread, my dd ( same age) has exactly the same problem, a few hours after shower & hairwash her hair really smells & looks greasy again.
I have the driest curly hair possible so I'm totally clueless!

Vosene is actually what she is currently using Penelope. Because she has a dry scalp too. Poor lassie getting it from all angles. Hormones are awful 😩

The best thing to do is to treat the dry scalp, this is what is making the hair greasy. Try and coconut based shampoo. I buy really expensive ones from lush and it's worth every penny my greasy hair has vanished.

Head & shoulders classic sorted out my teens' greasy hair. They shower and wash their hair every 2 or 3 days.

My 12yr old dd with a dry flaky scalp uses soak and float from lush. It's a game changer for her, vosene and t gel made her hair limp and frizzy, but this has helped her scalp and her hair doesn't look lifeless anymore.

Mane and tail, (you can get it from Urban outfitters, so suits brand aware teens) it sorted out my greasy roots and my itchy, flaky scalp, wonder stuff!

Tresemme deep cleansing shampoo is good, sometimes I think the rinsing can but just as important, make sure she rinses for a good amount of time whilst rubbing her scalp, Batiste dry shampoos are nice as well to freshen up

I am in my 30s but still have a greasy mop - I wash every other day. I use Alberto Balsam apple shampoo and conditioner- although the conditioner only goes on the very ends. I leave it on whilst shaving my legs then rinse off. It is either that or the citrus head and shoulders.

I know it is expensive but it lasts forever and it truly works. You only need a really tiny bit each time and only need to use it once or twice a week so a bottle lasts me for several months or best part of a year.

Have you got a Tesco Extra ?
Natural World 1 litre pump bottles ( at the moment £4 , usually £6 )

I bought the Charcol/Mint for my DS (teenager)

There are loads of different ones (DD has the Aragon)

Personally, I hate the Lush solid bars , they're a nightmare to wash out. Even if I just wafted them past my head , they still made my hair feel 'coated'

I use R&B (Lush) which gives body if I onlt oart rinse but even that doesn't give me the claggy feeling of the solid bars.

If you want something for flakey scalp - my DH and DS love the Bodyshop Ginger shampoo . It was out of stock everywhere I looked but managed to get a bottle at last. They use it maybe every 3rd wash.

I had a bottle of the Rainforest Shampoo but it didn't suit my hair, left it stripped so I kept it for detox washes before I did any colouring.
Might suit a more hormonal scalp, and you can sometimes get mini bottles to trial.

Lush Seanik is great on S1's hair - oily and thick - it resists water a bit like a duck's back, it's that bad! The Montalbano is supposed ot be for greasy hair, but exacerbated the dermatitis on my hands, just by handling it and gave him bad dandruff.

We're using Honey i washed the kids, at the moment, just for a change, and it doesn't get him as clean as the seanik in one go, but still does a better job than a lot of other shampoos. The thing i really like about the solid shampoo is that it's easy to use.

My dd 11 hair look wet by the end of day, we use head and shoulders citrus and it's great. It strips her hair of all the oil and smells nice too.

theotherendofthesockportal which coconut shampoo from Lush do you use? My DD is in the same stage and I like the idea of sorting her dry scalp. She also reacts badly to lots of products so Lush should be good for her.

Can she wash it properly? it can be quite hard to do the back of your head and underneath if your hair is long and you are new to doing it by yourself. I have very greasy hair and if I leave it more than a day I have to double wash the roots, might be worth trying until you get something more suited to her hair.

I found that 'clarifying' type products make my DD (12)'s hair worse.
She's now using an argon oil shampoo. Doesn't need the conditioner, and washing it every 2 days instead of every day. It's noticeably stabilized over the last 3 weeks the does 'need' a wash by the second evening. The dandruff/oily hair shampoos were definitely making it worse. We originally went with an argon oil shampoo from Superdrug or boots, then found the same brand in poundland..it's saving me a fortune.
