Shampoo for hormonal preteen

12yo dd is having problems with her hair. It's so greasy and lifeless. And even when she's just washed it it still smells (and pretty much looks) dirty.

I'm looking for a good shampoo that will really clean and dry up greasy dirty hair. And make it smell nice too. TiaSmile

Mmm I'm not sure if she is washing it properly tbh. I may get try suggest her letting me do it and see if I get better results.

It never looks healthy it's dull and lifeless after wash and not even a day later it's a ball of grease.

As my mum says it's like rats tails 😳

Same with problem here with my dd, 12.

Because dd was prone to dandruff (and eczema) she had been using Dermax shampoo that I get on prescription, however it does tend to dry her hair out.

Now that her scalp looks dandruff free, it's just her roots looks greasy, even after washing her hair. I usually alternate with the dermax with Simple shampoo, as I didn't want to be using anything to harsh, but it wasn't helping with the greasy look!

We tried the Alberto Balsam Apple one the other day & her hair didn't seem too bad with that. Although - I have to say - I suspected dd hadn't been washing her hair properly & maybe putting conditioner all over - so when I washed her hair for her one day, her hair looked a lot better - I've told her loads of times, shampoo at the roots & just condition at the ends!

I'd suggest she doesn't need conditioner at all. Just a quick cold rinse at the end

DD1 is nearly 11 and has similar hair. I've found that doing the wash-rinse- repeat system works - more so if I'm allowed to wash it as I'm not convinced that DD does more than pat at her hair. Like PP, her hair is almost water-resistant initially and seldom lathers first go. If I do it, I give it a real scrub and it feels squeaky clean afterwards. Left to her own devices, I think DD only washes it once and it definitely smells 'dirty'. Not combing/brushing it whilst wet doesn't help the rats-tails look either. We're currently using supermarket own brand dandruff shampoo but vary it with other normal supermarket stuff - it's the double washing that works for us.

My 12 year old is using the elvive clay - it is a massive improvement on anything else we've used and her previously looked greasy by end of day hair can now be stretched out to wash every third day if necessary.

So I tried a lush shampoo bar. She washed her hair with it yesterday. It looked ok yesterday and still looked not too bad this morning I plaited it and she got away with another day. But I could smell it sitting next to her 😳 at least if it looks OK I can use a nice dry shampoo for the smell.

I bought the elvive Clay yesterday and DD used it last night - waiting to see how it looks when she gets home form school! There is still a bit of a smell coming off her, but only if i sniff closely. I think I will wash her hair tonight and make sure its done properly!

Just reporting back on the Elvive clay, DDs hair is looking better, we found that washing twice (shampoo, rinse, shampoo again) is definitely making a differenceSmile
