What do we think?

1 Why is it so expensive ( most dresses are £200 ish) for polyester?

2 How do their sizes equate to the normal 8, 10, 12 etc?

I've seen a couple of dresses but Shock at the prices.

It's not somewhere I shop due to the prices being astronomical vs the material, cut and quality. Plus for everyday fashion, they play it very safe and their style hasn't really changed in years. It's been florals forever. I think dresses are their bread and butter and they are nice but there's always the risk of running into 3 people wearing the same TB dress at weddings.

I think a size 3 is meant to be a size 12? So presumably 1 is an 8 and 2 is a 10. I could be wrong and am sure they have size guides somewhere on their site.

Madbengalmum · 13/05/2017 13:41

It is polyester crap. And over priced polyester crap at that.

CantChoose · 13/05/2017 13:46

I'm following with interest. I needed a dress for a wedding recently and looked at a TB one but couldn't quite decide if it was gorgeous or gaudy!

WhooooAmI24601 · 13/05/2017 13:58

I love Ted Baker shoes. Their dresses are all shiny make-you-sweat polyester nonsense that everyone wears.

BusterGonad · 13/05/2017 15:26

I like their dresses. They are pricey but they are also well cut and heavy and the zips are beautiful.

Nottsangel2015 · 13/05/2017 15:32

I don't buy their clothes although wish I was slim enough to pull some of them off but I do love their accessories/bags and shoes. I have a pair of their trainer mule type shoe lol I love it it's the most comfortable shoe ever and I get lots of compliments when I wear them. I also own 5 of their bags Blushbut as I said cannot comment on their clothes to be honest tho they do look lovely.

Coast is my go to range for nice dresses and skirts etc for weddings and parties etc...

VerySadInside · 13/05/2017 15:37

Its like Michael Kors.

Trying to be something its not. All their accessories are just walking adverts. Some of the floral prints are pretty though.

SuckingEggs · 13/05/2017 15:42

I think it's gone downhill. It's a mixed bag - great leather jackets, bags and accessories but clothes are a bit cheap looking these days.

HarrietKettleWasHere · 13/05/2017 15:48

They still do beautiful men's suits though Angry DP has some stunning good quality ones that go down to about £130 in the sale.

I have a bag, and to be honest for the price I was annoyed it wasn't leather. Agree that floral has been the theme forever. Still have a few bits (shirt, jumper and one plain black dress) I've picked up over the years though and they've lasted well.

applecatchers36 · 13/05/2017 15:48

It's very mixed. Some of the floral prints are really striking. Got a cotton print lightweight sweater that I wear all the time, good palette but agree dresses are overpriced for quality of fabric.

SuckingEggs · 13/05/2017 15:49

Yes - I agree that the knitwear is nice.

SuckingEggs · 13/05/2017 15:50

My favourite jeans are from TB, too.

legolammb · 13/05/2017 19:37

Interesting to see this thread - I'd just been eyeing up a TB dress for a wedding but was a bit bemused as to why it was £200! I like the fact that lots of their dresses are fit and flare - I'm a pear/hourglass so need something with a waist which seems a tall order from the high street at the moment

CormorantDevouringTime · 13/05/2017 19:42

I do think there's a big difference between good quality heavy polyester and Asos tissue paper thin stuff. I'm too mean to pay Ted Baker prices though and I'm now too old.

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 13/05/2017 19:50

I always see a dress in the window & think it's gorgeous but it's a tiny size & when I see it my size it looks like a different dress...
I do have a couple of Ted Baker though & they are good quality.

Nanodust · 13/05/2017 20:03

Overrated, overpriced, towny rubbish. Anything half decent is made form polyester and about £200!

SansaClegane · 13/05/2017 20:09

I agree that it's grim. I couldn't believe it when I noticed almost everything felt cheap and was most likely polyester; and most patterns were just too twee and pink to be nice. There was hardly anything I'd have considered buying, but certainly not at the retail prices. Looked at their purses too but they were equally shiny and blingy Confused They must cater for a very niche market. The only thing I liked in there was a two-sided leather belt, but it didn't feel right just buying it on its own, so I left the shop empty handed!

SuckingEggs · 13/05/2017 21:36

I think TB and Karen Millenust have swapped buying and design teams.

SuckingEggs · 13/05/2017 21:37

*Millen must

KarenfromFinance · 13/05/2017 21:47

I think the prints work really well on bikinis / swimsuits and their swimwear is good quality and cut flatteringly.

Hulababy · 13/05/2017 22:28

I like Ted Baker fesses on the whole and their cut suits me. I find the sizing fairly good, certainly matches many other size 12s I own from other brands.

PNGirl · 14/05/2017 01:15

Fantastic men's stuff, but mostly awful neon pink or pastels/florals and patent bags for women.

This looks like it's from Sainsbury's. And I like Tu clothes but it doesn mean I wouldn't ever pay even half the price.

I ordered a ted baker dress online out of desperation when I couldn't find anything to wear for a wedding. It arrived and oh my god it is amazing! Fits like a glove and highlights my figure without showing every lump and bump. A few people have said it looks like it was made for me. Might just be a one-off but try some on and see.

Tatlerer · 14/05/2017 07:55

I recently ventured back into TB (well, last October!) after a good 7 or 8 years hiatus and picked up a gorgeous midnight blue velvet dress with embellished collar and some midnight blue velvet (I was on a role) cigarette-style trousers. I didn't expect to see anything I liked so this was a nice surprise.

WhisperingLoudly · 14/05/2017 12:12

Love Ted Baker - I get most of my workwear from there.

It wears well, thick fabrics and surprisingly underrated super flattering cuts.

A size 2 is a generous size 10
