What's the dress code?! Skinny jeans and smartish top ok? Am always cold so will need to layer up...
Trainers- yay or nay?! Or should I just wear whatever I fancy?

Depends if you want to be picked or not really!!! Only, I wouldn't know how to influence for that anyway!

Smart and comfortable. Skinnies and a smarting top, sure.
Trainers. Probably not.

AssassinatedBeauty · 10/05/2017 23:23

Whatever you're comfortable in. It's not a job, you can't be disciplined or fired for what you're wearing. I have no idea why trainers wouldn't be ok.

RubyWoooooooo · 10/05/2017 23:23

It's catch 22, always wanted to do it but has come at a rubbish time in terms of the fact that I'm snowed at work and it's my own business and organising childcare for two weeks!

Courts can be cold even in summer, so layers are good. Smart but comfy. Also take a good book as there will be a lot of waiting around!

CrispyBathTowel · 10/05/2017 23:26

I don't think they pick who is called based on what they're wearing. It's done by random number selection, no? If I wasn't called each day l had to go back to work so I wore normal office attire but there were people there wearing all sorts incl trainers.

JaniceBattersby · 10/05/2017 23:30

The last time I was in court a member of the jury was wearing a full on black cloak. People wear all kinds of old shite TBH but smart jeans and a top sounds fine.

You won't be picked based on what you're wearing.

Pippapotomus · 11/05/2017 09:23

Wear something comfortable as there is lots of siting around. I've had to do jury twice and there is always a wide range of people wearing all sorts.

(I'm sure the defense can reject jurors before they are sworn in. IME it has been men in smart suits they don't like the look of)

parklives · 11/05/2017 09:30

People just dress how they would if not at work.
Jeans, trainers etc all fine.
You are chosen at random, not by how you look, your age, race etc.
That is the whole point.

OOAOML · 11/05/2017 11:25

I got picked recently and it was names out of a bowl. I was wearing work clothes (as I'd hoped not to be picked and be able to head into work) - and in the end the case got dropped very quickly so I was back into work after lunch. Most people there were either in work clothes or just reasonably smart (defendant in trackies though). I wouldn't worry about trainers at all.

fruitbrewhaha · 11/05/2017 11:27

judge's wig and robes. You really look the part, like you are taking it seriously.

ImperfectTents · 11/05/2017 11:53

Lol @ fruit

knowler · 11/05/2017 12:45

Comfortable clothes as there will be a lot of sitting around. Jeans and a smart top sound fine. hope you get a juicy trial :)

TheNewMrsTomHardy · 11/05/2017 13:15

Wear whatever you feel comfortable - trainers are fine.
I've done it twice now and I can only stress that you take stuff to keep you occupied - there is soooo much sitting around.

ilovecherries · 11/05/2017 13:38

I did it last week. I was the most overdressed person by far in loose jersey trousers, a Joules harbour top and trainers. That was my third time and I hope the bloody last!

ilovecherries · 11/05/2017 13:39

And yes, take a book because you may not be allowed to use your phone anywhere in the court. Most boring week!

CheersMedea · 11/05/2017 17:52

Anything comfortable and smart-ish is fine.

Avoid provocative slogans on t-shirts or political dress. So time to pack away your EDL shirt and your swastikas.

RubyWoooooooo · 11/05/2017 19:04

Not a good luck then?!

On my first day doing jury service, I wore a really smart suit. Talk about sticking out like a sore thumb!
What you suggest sounds fine.
Warm, clean, comfortable is the way to go.

FadedRed · 11/05/2017 19:35

The third outfit should do nicely, Ruby. Grin

MontalbanoFan · 11/05/2017 19:41

I meant what you suggest in your op, of course!

cliffdiver · 11/05/2017 20:05

Yes it's random selection.

When I did jury service mostly everyone was smart on day one - shirts / dresses / smart jeans and shoes.

Day 8, most of us were wearing jeans and converse.

Wear something comfortable and yes courts are cold, so take a pashmina or something to wrap around you.

SpiritedLondon · 11/05/2017 20:11

I've been called for jury service and I can't wait.

I'm a police officer! 😀

Gallavich · 11/05/2017 20:13

Regular clothes. The jury officer told us he only had to send 2 people home, one had Lycra cycling shorts and another a t shirt saying I don't give a fuck.

Destinysdaughter · 11/05/2017 20:42

Ha that's one way to get out of jury duty!
