For a Business networking event? I'm on a tight budget. Would be in navy :

Opinions on this? www.boohoo.com/restofworld/invt/dzz95576?rmsrc=1&_$ja=tsid:77520%7Ccid:294788705%7Cagid:20988291065%7Ctid:aud-262675878671:pla-180635786225%7Ccrid:85426807865%7Cnw:g%7Crnd:14391345817011312248%7Cdvc:m%7Cadp:2o18&gclid=CKbZ9qjj49MCFUGeGwod3LAPoQ

I would buy the necklace too with it I think, unless anyone has better suggestions? And shoes?

It's stretchy, so will show off any lumps and bumps. The back will show bra straps so you'd have to go braless (don't even think about clear plastic straps).

On the plus side, the length is appropriate as are the sleeves, to play it safe.

If you often wear bodycon dresses and feel they suit you then it's a contender.

HeddaGarbled · 09/05/2017 23:10

Length is better but it's still too form fitting and too much skin showing with that low back. You seem to be aiming for sexy but you need to aim for professional.

MrsLettuce · 09/05/2017 23:19

Yes, that one is getting there OP. How about this?

HeddaGarbled · 09/05/2017 23:21

The websites you are looking at are just wrong for this sort of event. They are for young women dressing to look overtly sexy. You need websites aimed at an older demographic - lots of links provided by previous posters. If you can't get the links to work just google search the websites.

runloganrun101 · 09/05/2017 23:56

If you're spending £20 then go to Primark or Asda or Sainsburys and get a properly lined work dress in some kind of structured style. HK is really cut throat when it comes to dress, but especially female dress. You will be slaughtered if you don't look the part.

black ebay Hobbs dress
another, sleevless
absolute bargain beautiful

runloganrun101 · 10/05/2017 00:01

Hobbs is good

DevilsDumplings · 10/05/2017 00:03

Very pretty dress. On someone younger than 30 and slim it would look great!

Lucky lady being in Hong Kong. One of my favourite places.

Garlicansapphire · 10/05/2017 00:04

For my industry it wouldn't really be right. But I dont know much about real estate. Why dont you ask some of the people who've been before? I think its unfair that it always harder for women to judge what to wear than men.

I know it sounds snobby but in my line of work the more senior you are the more worky the clothes you wear for dos. So party dresses are out - but my line of work is rather dry and dull.

PeacefulPoster · 10/05/2017 00:13

what about this one, perfect length with sleeves as requested and the waterfall front would disguise any mum Tim your worried about xx

If you're still looking send me a PM. I'm in HK and similar size/shape by the sounds of it. I can probably lend you something.
For the record in HK I find women do dress a bit 'sexy' for the office and especially events but adhere firmly to the 'either show legs or boobs but never both' rule - so pick an option either shorter skirt, but covered on top or more skin on top, longer skirt.

Bloomed · 10/05/2017 01:18

Agree that boohoo etc websites are more for clubbing. How about this from asos m.asos.com/asos/asos-textured-structured-dress-with-cut-outs/prd/7859744?iid=7859744&clr=Navy&SearchQuery=work%20dress&pgesize=50&pge=0&totalstyles=869&gridsize=2&gridrow=4&gridcolumn=1

That is the right length and the cut outs are sharp, not too revealing.

knowler · 10/05/2017 09:30

I've never been to HK but i do go to various real estate networking events in the UK and i'd say that Peaceful's suggestion is good - wear it with some striking jewellery e.g. big statement necklace and some smart heels and I think you'll strike a good balance between professional and having made the effort.
