For a Business networking event? I'm on a tight budget. Would be in navy :

No, not suitable for a professional networking event. too short.

Intransige · 09/05/2017 21:32

Or this ?

runloganrun101 · 09/05/2017 21:32

In Hong Kong people dress really classy and designer. You might be better off spending a bit extra this time around if possible.

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:32

You need something structured (as in non-stretch), probably a simple sleeveless but form-fitting shift dress (not a-line but mit skin-tight) with maybe asymmetric detail, in black, with nude pointed courts (not too high, fine do mid heel ones) if you want to play it totally safe. Or a jazzier colour of you are feeling beaver. No open toes (they might be fine but pointed courts are just as fashionable and safer option, plus they will go with a more structured dress better then strappy sandals).

*braver! Grin

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:33

Darn that auto-correct, for the zillions time...

PurpleDaisies · 09/05/2017 21:33

What a typo! That's a totally different sort of "networking" event. Grin

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:34

And it should read Dune do mid-heel.

Taxi!!

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:34

Ooh la la!

Feeling beaver Grin brilliant typo.

jobvcareer · 09/05/2017 21:37

All of the dresses on the first page of that site look a bit.. bedroomy to me, not formal enough for business. Dorothy perkins have a sale on at the moment with some nice formal looking dresses.

Mysty · 09/05/2017 21:39

Looks lovely for an evening out - dress with thicker denier tights for modesty and it will be grand xxx enjoy. !

ChambourcyHippopotamousse · 09/05/2017 21:40

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:41

I swear my phone has a cheeky mind of its own!

101dalmationspots · 09/05/2017 21:42

Love the feeling beaver! Thank you everyone. I can't open a lot of the links for some reason! Star your suggestion sounds good, safe is good but I can't find anything!
I unfortunately can't afford to spend more, im completely broke (hopefully that will change after the event - no pressure aye!) I want to look classy but not mumzy. I'm not great in high heals so preferably something that works well with low heals too. I don't want to look frumpy either. Not asking for much am I!!!

At a business networking event in HK, you will not feel or look appropriately professional in that dress. If you want to make professional connections, you need to choose a simple, elegant dress also not much shorter than knee length.

Elegant, classic.

Bluntness100 · 09/05/2017 21:47

Op just Google navy shift dresses. Something like that with nude shoes would work well.

runloganrun101 · 09/05/2017 21:48

OP you need a knee length dress in conservative colours if you're over 30, with mid-height heels, nude tights, and minimal jewellry. You should never show your knees in a professional setting unless you're really young. Trust me. I've been to networking events and interviews in HK. You will be really out of place otherwise.

StarHeartDiamond · 09/05/2017 21:54

If you google debenhams black shift dress there's several options similarly priced to your original dress.

jobvcareer · 09/05/2017 22:13

No offence I only looked at the site because I'm fruitlessly searching for a dress for a wedding and hadn't seen that site before.
Good luck finding something.
