We have been invited to a wedding in July. First wedding I have been to since I was about 10.

I am 5ft 8 and a size 20 at the moment.

I'm not really a dress person but willing to try. Would prefer trousers, are these allowed at weddings?, so would need a nice top.

I'm totally lost please help.

Simply be have some nice occasion wear. Trousers and top are perfectly fine. Decent underwear is a must, include that in your budget.

How old are you?

calilark · 06/05/2017 10:28

Have a look at Studio 8. They have some lovely stuff. I wore palazzo trousers and a beautiful Monsoon tunic to a wedding when I was a size 20 (sadly now much bigger)

troodiedoo · 06/05/2017 10:29

A printed palazzo pant and white shirt would look very smart. Add a scarf or jacket.

Troodie I'm 35 and I would say I carry most of my weight round the middle Sad

Will def get decent pants to hold it all in.

Will check simply be and studio 8 now.

Palazzo pants are a good idea.

Thanks

Trousers perfectly appropriate - my mum is wearing them to my wedding this summer!

I'm about the same size as you, and have found great outfits in Debenhams over the years.

Intransige · 06/05/2017 10:39

Asos have some good plus sized options, both their curve label and also other brands.

MeMyElfandI · 06/05/2017 10:41

Trudy, I am same size and height as you , got thread running at the moment about dress for wedding so feel your pain. I just ordered these trousers from Boden www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-trousers-jeans/trousers/wm467-dbl/womens-imperial-blue-vine-print-camille-wideleg-trousers and they are very flattering and elegant. I ordered in the navy and cream and they also do culottes as well [[http://www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/womens-trousers-jeans/trousers/wm475-ivo/womens-ivory-nancy-culottes]]. I was surprised how good they looked on me as I carry weight round my middle. Would definitely be fine for a wedding in my books and if my dress hadn't worked out they were my back stop. Keeping them any way as I like them so much.

Try Navibi they are a greman company. Their occasion clothes are lovely if a little bit pricey.

MeMyElfandI · 06/05/2017 10:42

sorry OP should be Wifey instead of Trudy.

wifeyhun · 06/05/2017 10:48

Will check asos. Elf will seek out your thread. Those Boden trousers are good.

Thanks all so far, feel a bit less stressed now.

My thread is the want to be fab not frumpy wedding guest one. I'm 50 so quite a bit older than you but I think those trousers would suit any age and you could wear something on top to make them look a bit more edgy.

wifeyhun · 06/05/2017 10:58

Found your thread Elf. Lovely dress.

On a side note what pants should I buy to hold everything in? Spanx or a alternative.
