Such as these monstrosities

and

www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/shoes-430/heels-458/novel-square-toe-mules-6297929?bi=140&ps=20

Why? Who is wearing them?

OP posts:
Whathaveilost · 29/04/2017 16:10

The second pair look ok. I've got several like that.
Really not keen on the first pair though but I'm not young and edgy (anymore)

WhooooAmI24601 · 29/04/2017 16:12

Oh no, I couldn't wear either pair. I'm getting more fussy about my shoes as I get older.

FluffyBathTowel · 29/04/2017 16:15

Have seen quite a few bloggers in mules like the second pair. I can't imagine anyone other than Kim Kardashian wearing the first pair.

Scrubba · 29/04/2017 16:16

God no!! That second pair look extremely like the school shoes I look back on and cringe over.

And anything pvc or Perspex, where shoes are concerned (or those topshop trousers that are all over the news 😖) should be banned!

ZilphasHatpin · 29/04/2017 16:16

Horrendous! Last year I could go into new look, topshop, Dorothy Perkins, next and pick any number of lovely shoe size off the shelf. Over the last couple of months I have been going in to get a pair for a family event and I haven't been able to find a single decent pair. All these hideous chunky square heel monstrosities picked straight out of Dawson's creek or the sweet valley high show.

treaclesoda · 29/04/2017 16:18

I've seen a lot of these about and all I can think is 'I shouldn't have thrown out those shoes I bought with my first pay cheque in 1996' Grin

leccybill · 29/04/2017 16:26

I saw several pairs today that 90s me would have bought from Ravel.

Whathaveilost · 29/04/2017 16:43

Seems like it's just me liking the second pair!
Hey, they suit me! Lol.
In fact I'm tempted to get that pair. Thanks for the head start up on them!

BusterGonad · 29/04/2017 19:02

Omfg to the first pair, but I'm strangely attracted to the 2nd!!!

BusterGonad · 29/04/2017 19:03

What order me a pair while your at it, I'm a 7, cheers! 😁

ChishandFips33 · 29/04/2017 19:08

I had the second pair when the elastic/wedge version was all in

They were very comfortable!

JemimaMuddledUp · 29/04/2017 19:35

I used to live in shoes like the second pair. I noticed some in M&S today and did consider it, but then remembered there are probably some from the first time round up in the attic Hmm

ijustwannadance · 29/04/2017 19:39

I have never seen a nice pair of mules. They look so ugly on.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 29/04/2017 19:42

Ah, I was so pleased with the black patent mules I bought myself back in the 90s Blush Looking back it was a pretty strange decade for clothes.

Bubbinsmakesthree · 29/04/2017 19:43

Oh my god that first pair are the most hideous thing I have ever seen!

Whisky2014 · 29/04/2017 19:49

2nd pair are ok. I've never seen anything like the first :/

Aderyn2016 · 29/04/2017 20:33

Hey, you cheeky mare, I had that second pair in the 90s Grin. They were lush til I tripped down a kerb in them and nearly broke my ankle.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/04/2017 21:21

I recently found a picture of myself wearing EXACTLY those second ones from 1997 and it was a terrible look then and I was 20 years younger and about 3 stone lighter Surely we aren't doomed to make the same mistakes over and over in some kind of dreadful fashion vortex? Sad

Freshprincess · 29/04/2017 21:27

I had a couple of pairs like the second one back in the day. one was velour!

CointreauVersial · 29/04/2017 21:28

I have never seen anyone wearing ones like the first pair, neither recently nor back in the 90s.

But I'm quite chuffed about mules like the second pair coming back - I wore them loads back in the day. In fact it wasn't too long ago I discovered a stash in the loft and chucked them out. I'm not sure I could do heels that high nowadays, though.

BuzzKillington · 29/04/2017 21:30

Those mules! Hid-e-ous.

I also loathe those almond shaped nails people are sporting, They make me irrational.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/04/2017 21:33

Oh dear. The second ones look exactly the same as a pair I had and teamed with purple crushed velvet trousers, a floaty cream shirt and embroidered waistcoat in my yoof Grin

LadyOfTheCanyon · 29/04/2017 21:35

Gretchen And a stretchy choker, natch?

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 29/04/2017 21:48

It's the beginning of the 90's resurgence. Those mules are bloody awful. Most of the 90's fashion was bloody awful. Sadly it looks like it's coming back like every other decade has done. I am perfectly happy being unfashionable if it means avoiding the 90's look.

HmmOkay · 29/04/2017 21:49

Christ almighty.

You could have put a warning in the thread title, OP.

Those Next ones should be illegal. That Theresa May should stop dicking around with Brexit and start tackling crimes against footware.

And another thing. What's with this "back in the day" stuff in this thread? It was the 1990s, not the Hundred Years War. Disclaimer: I am old.
