Which Boden dresses are you talking about? Please link. MN raves about the wrap dresses and the work dresses. Have they now fallen out of favour? Really? I am surprised.

Bantanddec · 26/04/2017 16:20

My mum can't get enough of her boden wrap dress, she's 57.

chloechloe · 26/04/2017 17:59

I wouldn't say Boden is ever fashionable but I wouldn't say it's mumsy.

I'm 38 with a toddler and baby and buy a lot from there, mainly plain dresses for work and summer casual wear. I don't follow fashion though (don't like disposable fashion, prefer to buy things that last) so dress on quite a classic way which I think you can do with some items without it screaming Boden.

I think it's Mumsy and boring, but I'm one person, if you like it, wear it.

Sample1936 · 26/04/2017 20:23

I would have guessed Bodens market is 35 and over.
Age aside, if you like it wear it. Your friends sound rude.

BusterGonad · 26/04/2017 20:27

They are nice enough dresses but they are very safe, nothing about them shows any individuality imo, the first one is the best, the other two are very meh. I wouldn't wear them, I do own 2 wrap dresses and I do feel mumsy in them and they are a lot more jazzy than those 3, I wear mine on holiday and by the pool as they are so easy.

BusterGonad · 26/04/2017 20:28

Oh, and it goes without saying, if you like them and they make you feel good then sod what anyone says! Grin

TreeTop7 · 26/04/2017 20:31

Some of it can look frunpy on anyone over a size 10. The quality is hit and miss now.

However, I have some plain, stylish dresses from 2003/4 that still look great.

saturdaysaturday · 26/04/2017 20:35

I and lots of my friends wear Boden and we are all mid 20s.

NoLotteryWinYet · 26/04/2017 20:38

I love Boden - I highly doubt it is fashionable since no one has ever accused me of that! Some of their prints are slightly hideous so you do have to be careful. The knitwear has gone down in quality over the years vastly.

CakeNinja · 26/04/2017 20:38

I'm 31 and buy loads of their dresses for work.
I work in a primary school, their clothes are well cut, don't go bobbly, keep their shape when washed, and, most importantly for me as I'm quite tall, their dresses often come in a variety of lengths.
This enables me to be able to move freely in the classroom, bend over, climb on tables (when the caretaker isn't watching!), do what I need to, without flashing my knickers. I buy the high neckline dresses so I'm decent at the top aswell.
So for me, I can buy sensible and modest clothes for work. I don't wear them to socialise in though!

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/04/2017 20:38

I've been wearing it 20 years. No ones ever described me as frumpy.

BestZebbie · 26/04/2017 20:41

I wore Boden quite a lot in my mid-20s as workwear, in particular the plain colour jersey dresses with sleeves as sleeves on dresses are often quite hard to find.

10 years on, I feel like I've had enough of seeing clashing part-coloured things when I look at the catalogues, and now that I am actually a mum, stretch jersey tubes over the stomach suit me less...
I was also a bit put off by the Camerons having a very Boden dress sense!

JohnCheese · 26/04/2017 20:51

They sometimes have great shoes. The quality of the shoes is generally really good. Not all shoe designs are good, but usually, every season has one great shoe (well a pair...).
There's v little of their clothes that I like.

Daydream007 · 26/04/2017 21:02

Have a look on Hush.

greenroofedhouse · 26/04/2017 21:22

like most shops, its totally how you style them and piece items together. i dont find it mumsy or frumpy.

its like seeing someone in a jack wills coat (supposedly fashionable)but styled with dated/practical outdoor shoes and unflattering worn for years, out of shape jeans and made no effort with hair and have 15 year dated glasses.

CountFosco · 26/04/2017 22:10

Mumsy should be banned, it's intended as an insult but what is wrong with being a mother? We are (mostly) mothers on here, and as far as I can see from my colleagues fashion sense does not disappear just because you've had a child. Just another way to damn middle age women isn't it. Mumsy or mutton dressed as lamb are our choices, it's an impossible line to walk. Fuck it I say. If I want to wear an ASOS sequinned miniskirt or a Joules raincoat I will (though maybe not together since they'd clash) and who cares what people think as long as I like my clothes.

As far as Boden goes it's still reasonable quality (not as good as it was, I have woollen skirts from over 15 years ago that still look as good as new despite heavy wear) and still has a reasonable amount of natural materials (not as good as they once were sadly). I think they are hard to beat for smart casual workwear (especially if you are petite). Things like the Richmond trousers, cashmere cardigans and ravello tops are so easy for work where frankly I don't really want to look super fashionable or sexy; professional is what I'm looking for.

Frumpsville. Wrap dresses can be great - just not Boden ones.

SuckingEggs · 26/04/2017 23:57

Complete agree Count 🙌🏼

Dancergirl · 27/04/2017 10:05

I am mid-40s and buy a bit of Boden. I do like to look stylish though and agree that you have to be choosy what you buy. Definitely no loud prints or embellishments.

Their knitwear is lovely. Dresses - I like the look of some of the dresses but they come up so long which looks frumpy on me. I hate knee length dresses, I prefer shorter.

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 27/04/2017 18:12

I agree dancegirl. The waist sits too high for me and the dresses are just a bit too long so bordering with frumpy. I am 5'8" so can't really go for petite.
