2 pairs of shoes for a 2 week holiday. WTF?

DP and I are off to the Caribbean for a fortnight soon. Grin I'm already thinking about what I'll be packing. Looking up tips online, many say they only pack 2 pairs of shoes. Really? Do you manage with so few? Does anyone have any good packing tips they would like to share? TIA.

When I say heels they had a tiny heel but were still impractical

LittleBearPad · 24/04/2017 23:06

The bliss of a beach holiday is no faffing about with heels.

bananafish81 · 24/04/2017 23:17

Gazelles for travelling
Birkenstocks for walking down to the beach
Sandals for evening

  • 1 pair of flip flops
bumblingbovine49 · 24/04/2017 23:42

I cannot bear flip flops. Whenever I decide I should take them on a beach holiday (I mean as this thread shows they seem essential) I usually bring them back unworn or just worn once but abandoned.

For beach holidays I will usually take crocs or a pair of beach/walking sandal for the beach ,less packable than flip flops and deeply deeply unfashionable and usually quite ugly I know but I wear them loads on holiday including for sightseeing and waking around. No way would I be able to walk around sightseeing in flip flops.

I wear a light pair of trainers or converse type shoe (often never worn again in the holiday until the trip home if it is very hot). Then I dither for ages about which other sandals/summer shoes I should take for the "evenings" and usually end up with 2-4 of these, most of which I never wear as..

Doobigetta · 25/04/2017 03:59

Flip flops for the beach, flat sandals for sightseeing, wedge sandals for evening. I have far too many clothes, but a laid-back beach holiday isn't the time for them.

BusterGonad · 25/04/2017 04:47

I did a 2 month tour of American with just trainers and flip flops for the beach and when using communal showers! Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2017 05:42

I'm off for the weekend with friends. It's a city break so a bit different but I'm travelling in converse and taking flat sandals, heel sandals, flat shoes and flip flops.

I love shoes Blush

"I travel in navy havainas"

I am in awe. I don't understand how anyone can travel in flip flops. They just seem so insubstantial. I can't even go on a train in mules for fear of losing one down the gap!

Therealslimshady1 · 25/04/2017 07:11

I know, I can't wear flipflops or mules in cities either.

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/04/2017 07:11

Went to Babrbados in January
Travelled in winter clothes 😀
Needless to say , I didn't wear the black ankle boots once we got off the plane !
Flip flops and flat evening sandals were all that was needed

SoupDragon · 25/04/2017 07:18

I'm going for 2 weeks in Mexico and a week in the Dominican. I'll be taking 9 pairs of flat sandals for evening, 3 pairs of flip flops for day wear, trainers for excursions and travelling in and 2 pairs of heels.

That's nearly twice what we take as a family of 4! :o

BusterGonad · 25/04/2017 07:38

Rattle I'm with you on that, I'd be a nervous reck in flip flops. I broke my little toe last year at home....in my own house....that's made me even more fearful of too much toe exposure. I've got to be honest, I hate flip flops.

tovelitime · 25/04/2017 09:12

Flipflops are 90p in Primark so hardly an indulgence. Personally I like a black, navy, silver and gold to cover all bases. At £3.60 for the lot I'm happy it's not too extravagant

ReturnofSaturn · 25/04/2017 09:16

I always take two pairs.
Flip flops and trainers. Dont need any thing else but im not into fashion. Grin

elQuintoConyo · 25/04/2017 09:33

Trainer-type shoes to travel and for walking/sightseeing.
Flat fancy-ass sandals for the evening.
Heeled fancy-ass sandals for the evening.

I don't bother packing flip flops as I wear this to travel in:

My name is Pinot, and I am a flipflop hoarder.

Currently have got 7 pairs, including 2 pairs of the Ipenema ones that Eats linked. Loving the Ella blingy ones as well (sorry can't do link, but if you look up Ella sandals you'll see what I mean - apart from the ones with the fake flower on...). I likes a bit of bling round the pool me.

Don't get me started on the rest of my shoe collection.

RebelandaStunner · 25/04/2017 09:37

One each of:
Flip flops - comfy ones with the wide material not those cheap plastic ones. Mine are Rocket dog.
Sandals. Flat silver ones that do day or night.
Travel in trainers.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 25/04/2017 09:44

shoes are my holiday nemesis!!

Dh and I once went to London, the stay was two days, one night, I had two pairs of shoes packed, one on and STILL bought a pair while i was there.
And wore them all.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/04/2017 10:21

I love the way that a PP has been accused of being materialistic for having more than one pair of flip flops yet they didn't bat an eyelid at 2 week Caribbean holidays Grin

Have a wonderful time OP. Take as many shoes as you bloody well want to I say!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 25/04/2017 11:58

Oh God, I struggle so much with holidays and shoes. I love shoes.

Absolute minimum I can bear for a weeks holiday is:
Travel in trainers so you've got them for sightseeing
Flipflops for pool
Flat sandals
Heeled sandals

I try desperately to stick to a colour scheme when I pack so I don't end up with a pair of shoes that don't go with anything, but black seems too heavy for a sun holiday, so I normally go with tan or gold.

I will happily take less clothes and a tube of travel wash so I can maximise space for shoes in my case.

JustCallMeKate · 25/04/2017 18:32

I always wear heels on holiday at night. Jeezo I don't see the issue in wearing heels in a hot country, I've always done it. I wear heels every day to work though so I'm used to walking -and occasionally running in them. Grin. I absolutely love sandals and flip flops and have a pair to match each of my outfits--

happypoobum · 25/04/2017 18:37

Kate I can run in heels, but your post reminded me of a very entertaining evening DS and I had in Rhodes Old Town sitting at a cafe in an old piazza.

There were various women trying to walk in very high heeled sandals across the broken up medieval cobbles, all very wobbly and a couple fell but were held up by friends or partners.Smile

You had to admire their determination!

User2468 · 25/04/2017 18:41

Deck shoes and flip flops?

Im reality having anxiety means I would pack 3x pairs of flip flops in case of breakage, hiking boots, wellies, fancy evening shoes, deck shoes, casual trainers, running trainers and probably a pair of boots. Just for good measure..!

Justmuddlingalong · 25/04/2017 18:48

Yes! If 1 pair of flip flops breaks, it would be great to have a spare pair or 2. Skechers or trainers for travelling and excursions, a couple of pairs of sandals or sparkly flip flops for evening wear. Oh and water shoes, just in case. I've got delicate wee feet, I need to mix my shoes or I end up with blisters. Every year I have this stress over shoes. I know, it's pathetic Blush.

gluteustothemaximus · 25/04/2017 18:55

I only have one pair of shoes.

Enjoy your holiday OP. Take as many shoes as will fit Grin
