2 pairs of shoes for a 2 week holiday. WTF?

DP and I are off to the Caribbean for a fortnight soon. Grin I'm already thinking about what I'll be packing. Looking up tips online, many say they only pack 2 pairs of shoes. Really? Do you manage with so few? Does anyone have any good packing tips they would like to share? TIA.

Two pairs here. Trainers and trekking sandals.

Freezingwinter · 24/04/2017 18:43

I take some of the cheaper foamy flip flops for by the pool, Primark do them for 90p! Then a few pair of nice sandals/prettier flip flops for the evenings.

AgentProvocateur · 24/04/2017 18:45

Birkenstocks and flip flops for me. (Unless I leave Glasgow airport in the depth of a Scottish winter. In which case it's trainers and flip flops)

TheRattleBag · 24/04/2017 18:46

I took 8 pairs for a week in Wales. And I wore them all. I think I have a problem!

(To be fair we were travelling by car so effectively had no luggage allowance apart from boot size..... I'd be a bit more limited if flying!)

CMOTDibbler · 24/04/2017 18:59

I do 4 pairs for a 8 day business trip when I'll be on my feet all day. One pair trainers which I wear on the plane and to work out, 2 pairs of formal shoes, pair sparkly fitflops. I'm good for anything from a trail run to board meeting with that. If I just had a few days and no formal evening stuff (or just wearing my day business stuff), then its trainers and formal shoes or if hot and I won't want to/won't have time to run, fitflops and heels

PickAChew · 24/04/2017 19:00

You need more than 2 pairs of shoes? How many feet do you have?

LittleBearPad · 24/04/2017 19:02

When I went to the Maldives (so similar holiday) I spent most of the time with no shoes on at all.

One pair of flip flops and a pair to travel in would be sufficient. Maybe a dressy pair but flip flops would probably be enough.

Madbengalmum · 24/04/2017 19:06

It would be four pairs for me. I just don't get the people who want to cram a weeks or a fortnights worth of clothes in a carry on bag either. I want to have a choice of what i wear, not feel like i am camping. I dont do packing light!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/04/2017 19:07

Gosh, I'd probably take around 8-10 pairs and wear them all.
I own 70+ pairs of shoes.

All these people saying, "I'd make do with my gardening wellies for the plane and my slippers for the beach", fine, but I like shoes, as, I suspect, does the OP.

RJnomore1 · 24/04/2017 19:11

I'd have my Skechers for day time walking
2x flip flops (maybe 3) plus disposable flip flops terry towelling ones for the hotel room
My gold wedge sandals
My black comfy block heeled sandals
My running shoes (packed with great intentions but will not leave the bag)
Possible another pair of heels

And I would not feel one bit bad about it.

dementedma · 24/04/2017 19:13

Why 3 pairs of flip flops?

Mehfruittea · 24/04/2017 19:15

I've just got back from 2 weeks in hot climate. I took 1 pair of sandals, 1 pair of canvas deck style shoes and 1 pair of flip flops. I didn't wear the flip flops.

RJnomore1 · 24/04/2017 19:15

Because one pair wouldn't match everything unless it was black and that's boring.

Plus what if it burst and you're left flipflopless.

They cost pennies and pack flat so why not?

brownear · 24/04/2017 19:16

There is no need for 3 pairs of flip flops. It's excessive. Are you quite materialistic?

brownear · 24/04/2017 19:17

If your flip flops break when on a beach holiday you're at the beach, shops do sell flip flops!

RJnomore1 · 24/04/2017 19:17

Pmsl at excessive flipfloppage.

Good lord if three pairs of flip flops make you materialistic you'd have a fit at my shoes.

RJnomore1 · 24/04/2017 19:18

Why put yourself through the stress of limping to find a shop when you could have put another pair in your beach bag for spare that morning.

SerialBodenReturner · 24/04/2017 19:20

All of you questioning the multi flip floppers.. don't you have different colours of flip flops? I have loads! They all go with different outfits/bikinis.

I could wear ones that didn't go but I'd just feel wrong Grin.

I too, am a shoe person...

dementedma · 24/04/2017 19:20

I actually must be the only person on the planet who can't wear flip flops. I hate the feel of the thong bit between my toes and I can only keep them on by scrunching my toes up to grip them. How does everyone else in the world walk in them?

Maudlinmaud · 24/04/2017 19:23

Jewelled flip flops and nice pair of metallic heels that go with everything. Maybe a cork peep toe wedge for during the day going round the shops. There is shops isn't there? A holidays not a holiday without shopping ...for more shoes obviously.

BringMeTea · 24/04/2017 19:24

Querying of excessive flipflop ownership is surely joshing? I think I have 6 pairs of flipflops. I did live in the tropics for years; is my allowance increased? I would take 3 pairs for anything over a week for beachy holiday. I like silver, and black but can't deny myself the white option...

OP, I think 4 pairs should cover it. Enjoy your hols!

bingohandjob · 24/04/2017 19:25

LittleBear - my ideal beach holiday is spent mainly barefoot. Shoes off, watch off - that's holiday bliss for me.

Shamoffour · 24/04/2017 19:27

Demented my dd is the same. Every bloody year I have to trawl the shops to find pool shoes she thinks are appropriate.

I usually have excessive flipflopage. I love clothes and shoes and a big part of my holiday is wearing nice clothes and shoes in the evening and I like to have a choice. I have a ridiculous amount of shoes and when we moved into this house I was more excited about my shoe closet than anything else!

Yes I probably am materialistic but I'm not hurting anyone.

I took 8 pairs for a week in Wales.

I'd definitely take more footwear for a week in Wales than a fortnight beach/watersports. Walking boots, walking shoes, shoes appropriate for a wet day in a town plus the beach/evening gear.
