Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Thanks for your thoughts on the Bioderma mineral spf. I think I'll give it a try. I currently use a tinted Paulas Choice Resist spf 30 (think it's the daily wrinkle defence) which sounds similar to the Bioderma you're using. It's very cosmetically elegant but quite drying so I use a few drops of vitamin c face oil beforehand. I do love it but it's quite expensive, although maybe worth the expense as I do believe spf is the most important thing you can put on your face!

Nickpic sorry that you're skin is upsetting you. I would advise caution with a facial cleansing brush, I've got quite reactive skin and my face was a mess after using a Clarisonic. I ended up with perioral dermatisisShock. In addition to the fantastic advice on here, you might want to watch some of Sam Buntings videos on YouTube. Shes a dermatologist who advocates quite gentle, simple routines (I just wish some of her product recommendations were a bit cheaper!).

VictoriaandBump · 28/04/2017 21:02

Sorry, that first para was directed at Botemps!

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 21:03

I'm so sorry Olli FlowersFlowers

JDSTER · 28/04/2017 21:40

Sorry olli. My father in law has the same, difficult to know what the future will hold Flowers

nick as victoria says, cleansing brushes are harsh on the skin. Chemical exfoliants are effective and preferable - that's the BHA I referred to earlier. I would also second watching YouTube videos by Dr Sam Bunting. samg80 there's a number of useful ones on acne.

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 21:44

Olli - so sorry you're having a difficult time right now. Flowers

Dulcimena · 28/04/2017 21:48

So sorry to hear that Olli.

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 21:57

Between that and the thought of someone being near my spine I'm definitely having a fun time Grin
And they won't same day discharge me Shock reckon I will be able to stagger to the bathroom to do my routine?!

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 22:48

I think I must have missed the posts about your back Olli. What are you having done? Sorry to hear about your mum too. And thanks for the eBay recs.

I was using an Average clarifying shampoo but it's almost all gone so might try the Redken.

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:11

I have a (possibly silly / already answered) question about using actives in a routine. Currently I use COSrx BHA & BR P50W on alternate nights. Just got a TO delivery & I'm not sure where to fit some of it in.
I started with Niacinamide first, as that was specifically mentioned on the info sheet.
Retinol - not started this - where do I fit this in? I'm getting absolutely no bad side effects from the BR P50W, btw. Could probably increase to daily use. If I did, would I use this before or after the BHA / retinol? I assume before - if so should I leave a big gap of a couple of hours or something? Sorry - I hope I'm explaining that ok. Basically what order do I use them in & which can I use together...

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 23:23

Pupsie - having a discectomy. Long story but years of sciatica then sudden onset pain and numbness led to emergency MRI to rule out my spinal cord being compressed. It's not but I have two rather huge herniated discs!

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:24

Olli - could you possibly pare it down to a really basic routine you can do in your bed if necessary? Perhaps with all products you can remove with thermal water spray & cotton wool etc. Are there any of the packs of disposable face wipes that are actually decent, to use to remove makeup or as a first cleanse? I tend to discount disposable wipes these days as they are mostly quite harsh, but AFAIK some of the really pricey ones might be rather better (but I don't even look at them as I could never justify the price. Maybe if I was having surgery...)

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 23:27

My plan is Grin my boots botanics cleanser with cotton pads plus an acid pad then usual actives and moisturiser
The acid should get rid of anything I would usually use a flannel for. And yes I'm diverting myself from thinking about the op by micro planning ridiculous things Grin

I packed skinny jeans in my bag and then went "WTF? You're going to have an incision down to your bum!" Safe to say I unpacked those

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 23:29

Good luck Olli. I've had my share of back issues. Herniated disc 20 years ago. Then a fractured sacrum 3.5 years ago. Emergency MRI. 18 months of 24/7 pain. Surgery 2 years ago. And last week I ran a half marathon. I hope all goes well for you x

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 23:31

Thanks Pupsie. It's L4/L5/S1 that's knackered, and the numbness in my toes and foot and leg are becoming annoying! I'm active usually and missing riding my horse

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:35

That's exactly what I do when I'm stressed / uncomfortable about something I can't control or avoid. Obsess about something else. Totally legitimate coping mechanism. Grin
I had an episiotomy when I gave birth to DD. I lived in leggings & loose jogging pants for about 3 weeks after. No-one will judge you on your choice of clothing, honestly.

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 23:40

diverting myself from thinking...by micro planning ridiculous things

I also do this. It can be really useful sometimes. I think... Grin

No skinny jeans! Get something baggy and comfy. Are you being driven home? Can you just go home in some baggy pagans bottoms?

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 23:41

GrinGrin That is supposed to say Pyjama bottoms. Don't want to think what a baggy pagan's bottom would look like.

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:44

GrinGrin
Sadly I know exactly what a baggy Pagan's bottom looks like... I still need brain bleach for that particular memory.

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 23:46

Oh god, I won't ask! Grin

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 23:50

Now I'm laughing a lot! I'll have to get a taxi home but I have awesome pineapple print PJ bottoms! Have packed a soft lounging top and a vest and a brilliant not wired bra I have that's the comfiest thing ever
It says no makeup for surgery Sad but I'll take some for the morning after so I can entertain myself while I'm waiting to be discharged

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:53

Suffice to say, my PILs are not the traditional type...

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 23:55

My DD's idea of "entertainment" with makeup involves a vertical stripe of eyeshadow through each eyebrow. Excellent. Especially when we're shopping... (she's just about 5, btw.)

Pupsiecola · 29/04/2017 00:08

Mine was L5/S1 too.

EnidButton · 29/04/2017 00:08

Omg not your Pil's baggy bottoms! Shock

I'm Envy of pineapple pjs.
