Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Skin type:

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

PM :

Makeup : eg. no/light coverage/medium coverage/heavy coverage

Occasional treatments:

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:

Things that are really working well for me now:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

What's everyone's favourite conditioner??

yongnian · 29/04/2017 09:29

Aaghh everyone's so chat-tastic I can't keep up..
olli so sorry to hear of your mum's dx...especially at a this point for you...think the pineapple and rainbow leggings are the only possible choices right now...perhaps a sunburst print if you could find, or something else equally jolly...
mint I like Lush's H'suan Hua/goddess of hair leave-in/pre conditioner. Re sunscreen, I don't have an exact time...just usually do skincare before breakfast (inc spf) then make up after.
victoria Bioderma- think it's the photoderm spray...I apply a blob on back of hand then pat pat pat to avoid pilling. Yes there's a slightly white cast initially but that soon sinks in.
JDSTER that's so kind, thank you so much for thinking of me, I will PM you.
bo I think I love you
Um will post now then check back to see if I missed anyone.

yongnian · 29/04/2017 09:31

Oh how could I forget lego - passes the brain bleach....

Dulcimena · 29/04/2017 11:40

mint I rotate between a few Phyto ones: phytobaume express conditioner, phytolisse express mask and phyto keratine extreme mask. I have dry, coloured hair.

Ollivander84 · 29/04/2017 12:14

Disappointed with this months beauty box but anyway, it did have this in it. It's like a solid balm sunscreen with a little cushion for application

Ollivander84 · 29/04/2017 13:33

Ooh and more post
I got a free lip balm from the organic pharmacy and a catalogue, their products look good
And an embargoed (is that the word?!) product test from Boots

JDSTER · 29/04/2017 13:37

I've had a facial oil a long time ago from organic pharmacy and a hand cream more recently- both smelt amazing and 'true' to the main ingredients. How did you get to be a product tester for Boots? Envy

Ollivander84 · 29/04/2017 13:41

I literally googled boots tester panel and applied ages ago. Never got anything. Googled and applied again this year and I've had eye makeup remover for my last test and this one is bath bombs

EnidButton · 29/04/2017 13:57

Olli Thank you for the asos pyjama link 😍

I'm having second thought about the redken extreme shampoo I bought. Having read more reviews it seems to be liked by people with fine hair and those with thick say it makes it dryer which is the opposite of what I want. Wonder if I can send it back if I don't open it. Maybe I'll give it a try though. I've so many shampoos with a tiny bit used and then rejected.

mintmagnummm · 29/04/2017 14:45

Enid I think that shampoo has keratin which some people find makes their hair dryer so just depends how ur hair tolerates it, I personally cannot use anything with keratin as it makes my hair like straw and really irritates my scalp but others swear by it.

ilovetocook · 29/04/2017 14:51

mint we are all using suma white lavender shampoo and conditioner and loving it. I've always struggled finding sls and paraben free items at reasonable cost but this is something I will buy again. Not for a while as bought 5 ltr containters Smile

ilovetocook · 29/04/2017 14:53

Bo thank you for the cleanser recommendation I'm really liking how it feels

EnidButton · 29/04/2017 17:02

Mint Ah that makes sense, thank you. I'm not sure if I need keratin or not. Realised it won't be here until Tuesday because of the bank holiday. I have a Toni & Guy clarifying shampoo to try tonight.

userallusedup · 29/04/2017 19:13

Not been around for a few days so just catching up on all the posts.

Olli I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum, and wishing you all the best with the op Flowers

Bo it was me that was asking about using supermud in the pore purge routine but you are right it does contain actives so I'm guessing best not. Does anyone have any recommendations for a clay mask that works in the 50 shades routine and is fairly cheap and easily obtainable in the UK? Can't find the innisfree one anywhere except Amazon and it's £24 with postage.

My LRP stuff has arrived - SPF 50 spray and cicaplast. I don't find the spray too bad, it's a bit greasy at first but seemed to dry down fairly quickly. I've started walking in the evening straight after work so it will be fine for that (I cleanse and do my routine as soon as I get in) and I'll use it on my chest/hands/arms too. I've ordered a bioderma spray now aswell so as long my nozzle isn't faulty I'll keep that for outdoor social stuff when I want to make sure my makeup still looks good. I'm also eyeing up the bioderma nude touch SPF, think it might work well for me as I'm oily with medium skin tone. Also looking at LRP Anthelios dry touch tinted SPF but I think I've read here it's a bit heavy/greasy?

And I'm joining Enid in the cicaplast love Smile I had an itchy spot on my neck (think it was a midge bite) that I'd scratched in my sleep and had gone scabby - one dose of cicaplast healed it right up. I'm also using it on a couple of years old scars on my forehead where I'd stupidly squeezed/prodded/tormented a couple of stubborn white heads before they were ready, and they seem to be fading.

I'm not much use with haircare recs, I seem to react to everything (itchy scalp & neck) apart from e45, Eucerin or Dead Sea mud shampoos. I have very, very dry hair and scalp (odd when my face is so oily) so don't wash my hair very frequently, I use argan oil as a leave in conditioner and run a small amount through the ends on dry hair in between washes too. My hair is very long and thick so I wear it up most of the time as can't be bothered faffing with it.

mintmagnummm · 29/04/2017 19:15

Thanks everyone for the haircare recs Grin

EnidButton · 29/04/2017 19:58

Toni & Guy shampoo seems ok so far. Will know in the next couple of days. I liked the Pantene one because it meant I didn't have to wash my hair so often, as I can't these days because of illness, and it was cheap. Damn them for discontinuing it again. But hair is feeling nice atm so we'll see.

Hooray! Another member of the Cicaplast Cult Team. Grin

JDSTER · 29/04/2017 20:54

user I've used this and like it. It does have salicylic in it but it didn't cause me any problems or irritation using it in the 50shades routine. The cattier mask was mentioned upthread but I've not tried it
www.boots.com/super-facialist-salicylic-acid-anti-blemish-clay-mask-125ml-10144879

RubyGoat · 29/04/2017 21:46

I got the Cattier clay mask on Amazon, it was about £10. But, if you order from EPP, I think it's only about £4. Need to spend £29 to get free delivery but that's easy - they are so much cheaper than Boots / Superdrug etc for LRP, Eucerin, Bioderma etc. I get most of my toiletries from them now...

olderthanyouthink · 29/04/2017 22:11

Bo I'm using LRP cleanser, Superdrug simply pure Serum, Simple rich moisturiser & LRP XL ultra light SPF. 7 seven skin method sounds interesting... and long, can I do it in PM? I'm already late enough for work Grin. I also have TO NMF & AHA + HA that I'm not using.

I realised today that I have an absurd amount to hand creams with me all the time.

  • Body shop rose one, smells nice but is pretty useless
  • Cheap gift set one on my desk at work, short term fix
  • decanted Aveno skin relief body lotion, pretty good but smells odd
  • LRP cicaplast hands, good but feels slightly odd though it isn't greasy so good for my phone and work
  • Neutrogena concentrated, feels a bit odd but works its like my emergency one
  • Nivea creme, I don't like this on my face so I use it on my hands but its greasy so I should bring it home from work

I have a least 4 of these about me most of the time. Plus a lost Aveno hand cream somewhere.

My face looks about 17, my hands look 70.

JDSTER · 29/04/2017 22:32

I've been reading back through this thread (we've been very chatty this week). lego it sounds like you have similar skin type to me and you mentioned una brennan Vit C as an oil cleanser. Bo you talked about oil cleansers being better for oily skin than balms and how they helped, along with other things, to clear SFs. I alternate between Superdrug vit E hot cloth stuff (which I like but is supposedly for dry skin and maybe some of the ingredients aren't helping my skin) or body shop camomile balm at the moment (this obviously changes to an oil on the skin but is that differentConfused)
I'm wondering if I should change to an oil at night and if so, which ones are recommended?

RubyGoat · 29/04/2017 22:50

JDSTER - I do use the Una Brennan Vit C oil cleanser. Smells nice (quite citrusy), very good at removing makeup, I occasionally find my skin feels a little sore after though. I'm trying out the Edenens Milky oil shortly though, as I'm not sure about the amount of fragrance in the Vit C. Again, Edenens oil is available from EPP. I love them!

I have come to the conclusion that it is almost impossible to buy mineral sunscreen in an actual shop in this country. Bloody ridiculous.

Shop · 29/04/2017 22:55

Enid I'm not sure how it'd compare as I've not used any others but the Tresemme clarifying shampoo is fantastic and I usually get it when Superdrug skin half price so £2 or so.
www.superdrug.com/3-for-2-on-selected-Tresemme/TRESemme-Cleanse-%26-renew-Deep-Cleansing-Shampoo-900ml/p/428175 £2.73 at the moment 😊

olderthanyouthink · 29/04/2017 23:17

bo I forgot I have squalane too, which you said my provide some relief but I've not used it yet (except trying it out on my hair) as I'm being good and taking my time

EnidButton · 30/04/2017 02:22

Worth a try at that price Shop! Thank you. Smile

nickpic · 30/04/2017 10:54

Well i went to boots yesterday and bought some Estee Lauder products, foundatiin and primer. Cant see that they have made any difference what so ever in how my skin looks made up. Just feel ao down and want to hide away
