Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

New thread title suggestion:-

Skincare sorted: decent fucking Summer fucking clothes would be fucking nice.

Pupsiecola · 25/05/2017 17:53

Bo I was talking to my DH yesterday about it. Giving him a precise of the Sali Hughes article. I think clothes companies think everyone is getting bigger and bigger and that we want tents to cover us up. I am a true hourglass, and also my legs and back are in proportion. I am very rare lol. It's a lovely shape, but it's hard to maintain as one ages.

olderthanyouthink · 25/05/2017 17:54

I think I'd be an hourglass is you went by shoulders, waist, arse... Hmm

I lack boobs and don't have particularly wide hips but a not at all flat bum, a small waist and wide shoulders, I think that make me weird shaped

I need to go holiday clothes shopping but my parents have commandeered this weekend and then there's only one weekend before I fly and I've no idea what to buy so far.

Pupsiecola · 25/05/2017 17:54

PS, my DH is in the US atm. Messaged me earlier "just passed a Sephora, want me to go shopping"? He's a keeper!

botemp · 25/05/2017 17:55

I suggest a slight alteration:

Skincare sorted: decent fucking Summer fucking clothes would be fucking nice. Don't ask us about our hair Grin

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 17:57

No, let's not start on hair. I'm back on the conditioner only curly girl method and fine tuning it Grin
I'm all boobs, small waist, hips but a flat bum

Dulcimena · 25/05/2017 18:01

Nice coat bo. AS has become ridiculously priced in the past few years, not quite sure what's happened internally but their pricing structure is frankly nuts these days. Glad too that you took my musings in the way they were intended. I have nothing but admiration for the way in which you happily share your knowledge.

ITA with eversions and whatsthe re hydrocolloid plasters for overnight spot draining...what a lovely image that is Blush. V effective though! The pound shop often do them, which is even better.

Glad you're recovering Olli.

Hope everyone is enjoying the glorious weather, with full sun-resistance measures in place of course Halo

olderthanyouthink · 25/05/2017 18:05

Aww Olli ur like me and the opposite at the same time

I wanted to get my hair cut before going away but I doubt I'll get an appointment (with the guy I trust at least)

Pupsiecola · 25/05/2017 18:07

I had my hair cut last week and am thrilled with it. Was keeping quite tho. Blush

botemp · 25/05/2017 18:10

I'm a true one as well weirdly, just by weight distribution/proportions and measurements of my frame, nothing really to do with overly large assets with a waist in between (which I think is how a lot of hourglasses are perceived to be).

Out of frustration and left wondering what other people my size/shape are wearing I was 'body watching' today, not really something I focus on ever and I did notice how different bodies are now. Especially the midriff area and bottom half, people are disproportionately heavy there and I don't really remember it being the default body type. Certainly not in teenagers. Sorry, I realise I now sound like some horrible judgey fat shamer, I'm not, I still carry plenty of it myself, I was simply bemused by it all. It may also be that fashion has become more geared towards it, I know a big bum used to be considered a terrible thing to have and its the opposite now.

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 18:17

People are wearing woolly hats and sweaters where I am today. I'm mostly bemused and melting Grin

botemp · 25/05/2017 18:24

I saw lots of opaques, winter boots to then be topped with a frilly floral camisole style dress with bare arms Confused. A woolly hat would have finished it off quite nicely...

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 18:26

Also people in hoodies. It's 29c! I'm in gym wear so not modelling the best look but it's a vest and capris so at least weather appropriate

Pupsiecola · 25/05/2017 18:34

I daredn't ask for any DE lol. I've been banging on about TO and how cheap it is. So that's set his expectations for my skincare spends lol. Again, Blush.

botemp · 25/05/2017 18:37

You could totally ask him for the sample/travel sets from DE

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 18:48

See the trick is to ask for something insanely priced. Then go "oh yeah it is a bit much, how about this sample set?" Wink

Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 18:52

Example use
"Dad? Can I have this bag?"
"How much?! £1000?!?! You must think I was born yesterday"
"Yeah it is a bit much I suppose. This is lovely actually, much better price too"
"Oh £150, hmmm well as its a gift go on then"

Secretly I wanted the £150 one... WinkGrin

EnidButton · 25/05/2017 19:15

I'm 36,26,36 bo so think that's an hourglass shape. I go in and out far more than clothes designers make summer clothes for anyway. Grin

It's so hot here today. I've been gardening in an old asos t shirt and some cotton pj trousers. I'm a disgrace to S&B.

EnidButton · 25/05/2017 19:23

Liking your style Olli Grin

Also like the title suggestions. Honestly thought this would be the year I would be prepared for the Summer but no. Shit hair and no clothes.

Weirdly everyone up North (or here at least) seems ready as soon as the Sun comes out. It's all short shorts and fake tan. I've put it down to them having beach holidays abroad each year so they have clothes already. We rarely go anywhere hot and if we do we like site seeing more than beaches. Mind you, beach holidays = bikinis, don't they? So my theory is wrong.

EnidButton · 25/05/2017 19:24

Aaaaand I have very low blood pressure so the heat just makes me almost pass out. Balls to Summer. 🖕🏻

botemp · 25/05/2017 20:20

Think so too Enid, although height will probably play into it a bit, I'm not very tall (can't do the conversions right now but I think 5'4 or just a bit less than that) so the dip inwards is even more noticeable, I think anyhow. My measurements aren't up to date, scheduled for next week but they were 36.5-25-36.5 last time. 'Ideal' measurements for my height would be 36-24-36 IIRC although the thought of a 24-inch waist freaks me the hell out for reasons I can't quite fathom

This is totally disproving my rarity of the existence of the hourglasses belief (though I'm not a 'perfect' one think it's referred to as a soft hourglass). Is there some evil correlation between hourglasses and skin issues? Very bad science at play here

I like to think of myself as a reasonably put together person but I too am baffled by the sun ready crowd, where have they been shopping and tanning... why is there no thread on this to reveal all their dark secrets. I might fake tan tonight but can't remember whether you shave before or the next day Hmm

Low blood pressure is terribly evil, thankfully haven't had it in a bit but it's the worst in heat. Can't care to recount how many times I've freaked out others (usually in a pilates class) with the near passing out and dizziness spells.

Are we really going with the new suggested title Grin because I've kind of forgotten Pupsie's last one and this would save me digging through the thread

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 20:34

I'm fat Grin but I'm about 46-34-44 so not quite perfect hourglass
I took a photo of my back incision (using timer cam) and my waist does look teeny compared to my hips

botemp · 25/05/2017 20:48

Hmm, WTHR (waist to hip ratio) is over 0.75 so technically not an hourglass, Olli bad science continues. I was recently reading about Ectomorph, Mesomorph, and Endomorph body types. Seems to be a bit of a fitness thing lately (not my usual interests) but apparently, the theory it's based on is heavily criticised and somewhat racist/sexist Shock. People do seem to have success with it but I was left even more confused about which of the three I was as there was something in everything that applied Confused

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 25/05/2017 21:19

I'm probably more of a top heavy triangle? But with a waist. I could just call it odd shaped Grin

botemp · 25/05/2017 21:30

I'd go with Olli shaped Grin. I think even famed hourglass Marylin wasn't a perfect hourglass. I do sometimes wonder how much this is cultural. I know hourglass proportions are vaguely tied to the golden ratio theory (and I am inherently drawn to things that conform to that ratio) but as I understand it even that is somewhat culturally biased.
