Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Skin type:

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

Routine :

AM :

PM :

Makeup : eg. no/light coverage/medium coverage/heavy coverage

Occasional treatments:

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:

Things that are really working well for me now:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Dulci me! Just hopping off to TKMaxx....

mintmagnummm · 28/04/2017 14:40

Just a random comment....think my skin doesn't like niacinamide as I've worked out the products I've used in the past (olay total effects, lrp toleriane night cream and few others) that contain niacinamide my skin has not liked! I remember them feeling itchy, hot and irritated and washed them off not long after applying.....sorry for the random waffle I'm just thinking aloud Grin

mintmagnummm · 28/04/2017 14:42

Will the TO advanced retinoid 2% make my skin smoother and clearer?

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 14:51

Thanks for the shampoo recs Mint and Yong. I've ordered the Redken cleansing cream one along with extreme shampoo, all soft conditioner, heavy cream mask and a heat cure mask. The mask was a bit ££ in hindsight. This is why I shouldn't go shopping at 2am. Blush But hopefully my hair will feel better. Getting a good 3-4 inches taken off it next week too.

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 14:53

And I'll make more of the other ones you recommended Yong as the Redken stuff is a bit expensive compared to the cheap Pantene clarifying one I used to use.

I hate it when companies discontinue really good products.

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 14:53

*make note

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 15:36

I need to catch up. But this arrived super quick. I shall keep you posted...

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 16:27

Bo I would like to try some AB moisturiser/serum I think. Not keen on snail stuff but is there anything else you would recommend please?

I have a job :-)

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 16:30

Pupsie - if you find something you want then get it off eBay from a big seller they often send you samples too Wink and some do packs of Korean skincare samples

I've got a kawaii panda beauty box arriving tomorrow, which is 5 full size Korean skincare things so I shall report back what I get!

JDSTER · 28/04/2017 16:41

stevie here's a photo of the three products that would work well for you, with the addition of an spf. The LRP spf recommended by Bo didn't work so well for me because I'm oily but it's a very light texture and an excellent all round sunscreen so I'm sure it'll be great for you.

yong I picked up a sample sachet of kiehls avocado eye cream for you (I think it was you who wanted to try?) I had to chat up the sales assistant mind you Grin. PM me your address and I'll pop it in an envelope.

nicpick how old are you (roughly) I developed open pores mid 30s. As Bo says BHA as an exfoliant a few times a week and products with niacinamide all help. In terms of makeup I use Benefit porefessional primer. It makes all the difference to the application of foundation afterwards- I would choose to wear the porefessional on its own followed by powder than have foundation on its own and powder. A good double cleansing routine at night, daily spf and weekly face masks also, to just generally support the condition of your skin.

JDSTER · 28/04/2017 16:45

olli Have you considered joining the thread where people commit to no more spending on beauty products and using up what they've got? GrinGrin

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 16:52

Um. No BlushBlush
Let's not talk about the makeup < ahem >
To be fair I do use a LOT of stuff but I'm quite good at using things up. Found some conditioner that my hair hates so shaving my legs with that and using some rubbish shampoo as loo cleaner/handwash for delicates

Dulcimena · 28/04/2017 17:07

LOL!! Bo that really did make me chuckle! Love it. Yy to Enid Blyton and Young-again too! Wrt the astalift obviously I don't know but I've definitely seen the same stock in German TKMs as in the UK... Just sayin' Wink

Hope you find some in store, TS.

Has anyone tried the DrunkElephant vit c serum yet?

samg80 · 28/04/2017 17:16

Hi, hoping some wise skin care guru's can help with the mess that is my face. Always had acne as an adult and PCOS which I take medication for. This seems to have helped with the jaw line boils at least.

Using nip fab glycolic wash, dragons blood pad and nip fab serum am with Nivea clear skin sun screen.

Evening using cetaphil then nip fab glycolic to cleanse. Paula's choice 2% bha. Don't really bother with any moisturiser at night. Skins not dry except for my nose.

I have melasma on my top lip since pregnancy three years ago, I guess rosacea on my cheeks, red around my nostrils and completely covered in whiteheads which particularly glisten in the sunlight.
Oh and I'm knocking on for 40 for gods sake!

The redness is probably the worst thing for me as I can't seem to cover it.
Help 😫

Thanks ill look it to them products. Im 41, so maybe its just something i have to deal with due to my age.Im being thick but whats BHA?

EnidButton · 28/04/2017 17:55

Enid is obviously out of a Blyton novel and just amusing herself on MN until she has to go back to boarding school.

Grin I missed this. Name is a typo of Enid Blyton and I do attend Mallory Towers so you've got it spot on. Wink

RubyGoat · 28/04/2017 18:35

If I have a shampoo / soap type thing that I really hate, I use it to clean the bathroom sink. Better than using Dettol & getting hideous Dettol chemicals on my face...

botemp · 28/04/2017 18:52

Congrats on the job, Pupsie!!!!!!!!!! I take it back about the puppies

I really like the Bijin Ferment Milk for summertime, Pupsie. It comes in the world's prettiest packaging. Nothing amazing actives wise but lovely and hydrating whilst still very light. Never tried it myself but the CosRx oil free birch sap lotion would probably also be good, no snails involved in any of those Grin

nicpic, I meant more that it's hard to say without knowing what else is at play, whether you're oily/combo or suffering from dehydration, if the enlarged pores are an aftermath of feeling poorly/neglecting a skincare routine or that it's just come to a head as of more recent on top of everything else, etc.

BHA = Beta Hydroxy Acid, it's a chemical exfoliant that penetrates slightly deeper and tackles the grime in pores as well as being anti-inflammatory. I usually rec the Paula's Choice 2% Perfecting Liquid but you need a proper standalone SPF in place ideally before attempting any form of actives like BHA.

Poor Olli! Are you being product shamed Hmm? Seeing as it's all part of your job, aren't you deducting this all from your taxes anyhow Wink

Shh, Dulci, I thought we weren't allowed to LOL on MN Wink. I did pop by a TKMaxx incidentally this afternoon and they actually had the Astalift set but at an extortionate price Shock. 2x of anything I saw them go on eBay for. When will I be receiving my batch of Dulce de Leche btw?

samg80, have you read the acne info sheet linked in the OP? Using the form makes things easier for us to answer the more complex questions. Are you on medication for the PCOS or for the acne caused by the PCOS?

I think I drove my parents mad for about a year or so demanding to be sent to Malory Towers, just soothe my inner whiny child and tell me it isn't as nice as it at all seems, Enid Wink

Cheers JDSTER! I'm on to the spf first thing then will look at everything else. Promise I'll be back to report Grin

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 19:22

Thanks bo. It wasn't the one I went for a couple weeks ago. This was 3 days from seeing it advertised to being offered the role. It's so much more up my street and I am very excited. A return to work after 15 years of being at home, although I did do a degree in that time.

Thanks I will look at what you recommended.

Pupsiecola · 28/04/2017 19:23

Olli I'm always a bit nervous of buying skincare on eBay. Do you have any recommended sellers please? TIA.

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 19:34

sellers - f2plus1, jolse_cosmetics are two I've used regularly and recently. There's one called love shop or something, if you check the seller name when you've found the product it will be obvious as they've got about 90,000 feedback!

Pre op today, all went well but I've had a call to say my mum has early onset dementia diagnosed today so a bit of a strange day

Ollivander84 · 28/04/2017 19:37

Oh and beautynetkorea is another eBay one. Jolse refunded me v promptly for a parcel that didn't arrive as they didn't have a replacement in stock

mintmagnummm · 28/04/2017 19:39

Enid wow you did have fun ordering lots of redken didn't you Grin
Olli I'm so sorry to hear about your mum Flowers

nickpic · 28/04/2017 19:52

Thanks botemp, i always thought i was oily but when i had a facial she said my skin was dehydrated.
i think i neglected my skin when Mum was poorly, not taking make up off properly etc. Also had the coil fitted in June last year so not sure if thats contributing.

Was supposed to be going out with hubby tonight, i got ready and took one look at my skin and just had a big meltdown. Make up just seems to exagerate it.
Tried a Olay regenerist cleansing brush tonight so will see if that helps any.
