Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

Occasional treatments:

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I've got quite a few little whitehead spots springing up on my chin area. Leaving red marks. Can't think why though. Only thing I've used that's different is more of the Lancôme teint idole than usual. Do hope it's not that. Anyway, it's annoying.

IncognitoAvocado · 19/05/2017 21:11

Evening everyone.

pupsie I'm sorry to hear about your little boy, how horrible. Freckles are gorgeous and it's such a shame children have to be so cruel to each other. I was bullied at school for similar reasons. My DDs are both beautiful redheads so I'm quite worried they will be given a hard time when they go to school.

Thanks for the recommendation on the Eucerin botemp. I'll give it a try. I have noticed it doesn't seem to be in Boots but I can get it online I think. Must try the LRP dermo cleanser too.

My Hylamide Vit C arrived yesterday but I haven't tried it yet as I'm making myself finish my redermic first. I have a terrible habit of not finishing products, I'm trying to do better at this. Also started on the Eucerin mattifying SPF50 which I'm loving so far.

I had an incident last night ordering the new QVC beauty box. I'm intrigued by the Alpha-H liquid Rose Gold as I loved the original and just finished it.

Ooh, and I made an enquiry about getting microneedling for my acne scars yesterday. I've been invited to a consultation.

Ollivander84 · 19/05/2017 21:12

My boots vouchers arrived from E-ON. Yay! Lancome foundation here I come Grin

Pupsiecola · 19/05/2017 21:49

Thanks to those who have sent messages of support re my gorgeous boy. He's much happier today and has just been to a youth club. Incog I think red hair is stunning!

Hylamide has not been on my radar at all. What's good? I see they do some pore-related stuff?

I might not repurchase the EH cleansing balm. I'm 2/3 through my second tub. I'm also not sure about TO Azelaic - could that be the cause of the spots?

Pupsiecola · 19/05/2017 22:01

PS DH is in the US next week and has offered to go to Sephora/bring home a delivery to his hotel. Am fancying Drunk Elephant. What's worth trying?

userallusedup · 19/05/2017 22:17

Pupsie I'm glad your gorgeous boy is feeling happier Smile

I love the hylamide subq serum, and am very happy with their cleansing oil. Other things I've tried and been a bit 'meh' about are the subq eyes and the pore delete. Didn't do any harm but didn't seem particularly effective either. I'm eyeing up their Vit c now but TO one works well for me and is much cheaper so not sure if if its worth trying. I'd be interested in a review once you start using it Incognito.

I just had to go and check that box out on QVC but resisted ordering it, mainly because I don't like liquid gold - I was very tempted by some of the other stuff though.

JDSTER have you tested the innisfree no sebum powder yet? I used it today and think it's pretty good - still needed to top up a couple of times but I do with all powders and this is cheaper by far than the Tarte one I normally use. It's invisible on my skin & doesn't look dry or powdery.

Pupsiecola · 19/05/2017 22:22

Just re-reading about Azelaic. In theory it should suit my skin. I don't think TO one is right for me though. Dr Sam recommended PC or Medik8 in her Telegraph piece. Can anyone recommend either of these or an alternative please?

yongnian · 20/05/2017 08:14

pupsie I'm not overly impressed by the TO azelaic either, won't RP. Shame, I had high hopes for the rosacea with it. It is available on prescription for rosacea I think though.

Pupsiecola · 20/05/2017 08:32

Thanks yong. I think I'm going to try another brand if someone can recommend one. Maybe one of the two Dr. Sam recommended. My rosacea is pretty well under control and early stages so I'm not sure I'd go down the prescription route just yet... let me know if you find anything else...

Pupsiecola · 20/05/2017 08:35

I'm looking at this Paula's Choice one.

PC Azeliac Acid

qua, (antibacterial/antioxidant/skin-lightening agent), C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate (emollient), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (skin-repairing ingredient), Methyl Glucose Sesquistearate (emollient), Glycerin (skin-repairing ingredient), Cetearyl Alcohol (thickener), Glyceryl Stearate (thickener), Dimethicone (silicone slip agent), Salicylic Acid (Beta Hydroxy Acid, exfoliant), (cell-communicating ingredient), Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract (anti-irritant/skin-lightening agent), Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract (antioxidant), Allantoin (anti-irritant), Bisabolol (anti-irritant), Cyclopentasiloxane (silicone slip agent), Xanthan Gum (natural thickener agent), Sclerotium Gum (natural thickener agent), Propanediol (slip agent/penetration enhancer), Butylene Glycol (slip agent/penetration enhancer), Phenoxyethanol (preservative)

mintmagnummm · 20/05/2017 09:26

Pupsie are you ok with silicones? Dimethicone not too bad for me but that Cyclopentasiloxane breaks me out!

botemp · 20/05/2017 10:14

It's pretty much impossible to find a high % Azelaic product without silicones due to stability issues and iirc they're not an issue with Pupsie.

I've suggested people try that PC one a few times on here, Pupsie, but I think price has made people hold back on trying it as I've never gotten feedback back on it.

I think Dr. Sam mentioned in a video at some point that Azelaic is available to buy OTC without a prescription in the UK but I don't think anyone here has done so yet.

Nicpick, I'm always a bit back and forth with you as I know you really want to see results in the short term and you probably could handle some stronger actives to help with the texture more once the SPF is in place but it also brings up the danger of a bad reaction to too much too fast that could result in an even longer setback requiring more patience. AHA is definitely the next step after sunscreen, I'm just stuck on the sensible strength for you right now.

Just an aside, is the brand Louis Widmer easily available in the UK?

Otyt, the waterproof SS is the Bioderma Photoderm Max Spray SPF50+. It comes in two sizes.

Some pigmentation chat from ms hirons

I realise she's not your favourite person but I am just v interested in this at mo!

I'd love to try drunk elephant pupsie, CH mentions it. Glad to her your ds is in better form Smile

Interestingly, my own redness is noticeably improved since discontinuing the TO pigmentation regime. Not quite sure whether it's the ceasing or whether the regime (the MAP maybe?) actually was having some beneficial effect. Confused

Pupsiecola · 20/05/2017 10:41

Thanks Bo. I've ordered the PC one and shall report back. I am going to stop the TO one. I think I am going to review everything else I'm using too. I feel it's all a bit bitty in that apart from some staples such as Vit C I'm not using things daily. (I know that's fine re acids etc.). I'm not sure that the Face Theory retinol suits me either tbh. I only use it once a week I think. Is that even enough to see results?

ohgoonthenjustonemore · 20/05/2017 10:44

bo I wish I had found your advice re SPF at altitude years ago, I'm ex cabin crew and it never once crossed my mind that I should be wearing it to work...all the wrinkles that I could have prevented !!Grin

botemp · 20/05/2017 11:01

Sorry ohgoon, unfortunately skin cancer rates are also really high for those professions (and possibly some other cancers too). You'd think airlines would bother to inform their staff about it, or offer some sunscreen as part of the job at least.

OP posts:
ohgoonthenjustonemore · 20/05/2017 11:20

Absolutely bo, it's easy to make light of what is actually a very serious topic, just from my base alone there was an uncomfortably high number of crew who were diagnosed with breast cancer over the years. If my memory serves me correct I'm pretty sure that the risks of skin cancer were only talked about within the flight deck community, however things may have changed since I left flying in 2010.

olderthanyouthink · 20/05/2017 11:43

Thanks user & yong

What's TOs BHA like? I'm impatient (their shop is only a few miles away) and a cheapskate at the moment (the price of flights is a bit Shock)

mintmagnummm · 20/05/2017 12:24

Pupsie I didn't get on with the face theory retinol either, their face creams are absolutely fine but the retinol was a no no for me, it broke me out and made me slightly red and irritated. I'm just sticking with my basics of cleanser, moisturiser and spf for a while.

Pupsiecola · 20/05/2017 12:55

Interesting mint. I'm going to take a break from it and then possibly look for a different retinol once I feel things have settled.

BTW, i can put my Corsx serum on straight after TO Vit C (gently rubbing it in) with no tingling or issues. Then SPF on straight after then tinted moisturiser. All about 1 Mon between applications. Very very happy about that and am using the Vit C daily again as a result. Bloody love the Corsx.

nicpick · 20/05/2017 13:24

I have bought some Superdrug Naturally radiant Glycolic acid pads. I dont know how good/effective they are or even if they are the right thing? Have bought a proper facial spf factor 50 cream. So am getting there.

EnidButton · 20/05/2017 15:11

Skin looks awful again. As soon as it looks ok and I think I'm getting somewhere, a week later the spots are back. My hair isn't how I want it and looks frumpy and my skin is spotty. Feel like I put tons more effort in than those around me in rl just to look worse. Fed up today.

olderthanyouthink · 20/05/2017 15:14

enid Flowers

EnidButton · 20/05/2017 15:15

Thanks Older Brew Just having a bad couple of days I think.

Pupsiecola · 20/05/2017 16:39

Oh Enid. Wine. I feel a little like that with my skin. I think we should do a bit of a review? I'm going back to basics for a while.
