Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Approx age (range):

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

Yes azelaic is available from one of those prescription drugs websites, I was considering that route versus the TO but decided to err on the side of caution.
Had not noticed PC do one but there really just has been zero noticeable effect so don't know if I'd even try that tbh.
Just about to do my TO restock - does anyone have probs with their basket on there? Takes ages to update, then all the stuff disappears.

mintmagnummm · 20/05/2017 17:06

Enid that happens to me too! One day my skin starts to look ok and I feel happy with it and then boom I breakout, feel irritated/shiny/red etc. So frustrating isn't it.

JDSTER · 20/05/2017 17:19

Enid sorry you're having a bad few days Flowers

I had LVL lashes done yesterday for the first time. I haven't been allowed to get my eyes wet since then so it has been interesting trying to cleanse - I used wipes last night Shockthen LRP toleriane cleanser wiped off with damp cloth (EH Enid Wink) I just used toleriane and damp cloth again this morning. Feels very strange not splashing my face with water. When I had my lashes done she did before and after pictures, very close up, and all I could think when she showed me the pictures was ugh look at my pores! Thankfully no one looks that closely at your skin but what is it with photos on iPhones? I always look rubbish and I'm sure I don't look like that in real lifeGrin.

ohgoon and bo I hadn't heard of that link with cancer and airline crew but it makes sense with all that radiation, awful.

Bo never heard of Louis Widmer.

user tried innisfree properly today. I just used the little puff applicator that came with it. It's worked well on my nose- less shine- but forehead not so good. I need to experiment a bit with how much I'm using and wash my powder brush ready to start using it properly. It's a very fine powder with no colour so I like that aspect. I'll let you know how I get on.

pupsie the Dr Sam in the Telegraph you mentioned, is that the series from last year? Just googled it but haven't seen it before. I got a few LRP things from US not available here yet.

What other Vit C offerings are people using? I know a lot of use use TO. pupsie asking about drunk elephant made me wonder.

Ollivander84 · 20/05/2017 17:23

I'm using Melano CC vit C off eBay. Cheap, smells nice and good texture

userallusedup · 20/05/2017 19:23

Enid Flowers

JDSTER I used the innisfree powder with a brush, I don't really like those puff applicators that come in compacts as find they mess up or take off the makeup I'm already wearing, maybe I'm too heavy handed with them.

I might try a different az acid when TO one is gone as I'm not finding it really does anything. Or I might just ditch it all together as I'm going to try TO 1% retinol so could probably do with cutting back on other stuff. I use TO SA and I do think I've been less oily and getting less breakouts since starting it, but that might also have to go if I add in the 1% ret as using both even on alternate nights would probably be too much.

My Easyparapharmacie order arrived today, I was on my way out so haven't tested anything yet.

miffy2 · 20/05/2017 19:34

JDSTER I am booked in for LVL lashes in a couple of weeks. Do you like/rate them? I have decent eyelashes but no curl and hate using curlers, so i am hoping for good results.

I also recently bought the Indeed Vit C but hate it, it is so siliconey and everything balls up over it. I tried mixing some in with my moisturiser and it went on OK but then I noticed my foundation wore off by mid-afternoon. I have ordered TO MAP to give that a try. I love the LRP Redermic C10 and am finishing off my third tube of it...but not sure there is enough vitamin c in it to have much effect. Am I correct in that assumption?

Shop · 20/05/2017 20:41

mint sorry the Tan Luxe drops are the same sort of thing as the clarins ones I think.
You mix a couple of drops with your moisturiser or face oil and it makes it in to a gradual tanner. They give me a really natural colour.
Trying to fit fake tan into my routine over complicated things so adding to whichever oil I'm using means I don't have to worry 😂

EnidButton · 20/05/2017 22:03

Thank you lovely people Flowers I was just in a grump with myself. The sooner my hair grows, the better as it's just one more thing that now needs extra attention.

JD I once read a thing about iPhone pics. They do distort your face, something to do with curvature...or perspective...or something. Also, the colours aren't right on iPhone pics which I think makes a difference. There's a whole selfie taking generation who think they look totally different to how they look in real life. (Might explain contouring.)

olderthanyouthink · 20/05/2017 22:35

I know the latest iPhone has a supposedly better flash to make skin look better (I can't comment on how good it is as I don't really do selfies)

And contouring and YTer heavy make up looks way different on camera vs RL. Its one thing to do it for a video or selfie but it looks wrong IRL, kinda like stage makeup

There was a thread the other day about having a skewed mental image of ourselves. Like I always imagine my skin to be darker and yellower than it is, even though I know I'm relatively pale (compared to the few other mixed race people l know).

Pupsiecola · 21/05/2017 09:35

My skin is looking calmer today. Last night I double cleansed, applied some Nia, then massaged in some NY Rose Oil.

SUNDAY SUPPLEMENT

Remember the last SS when I mentioned Elle had declared anti-ageing over Hmm, well entrepeneurs think differently, Why Anti-Aging Products Are the New Startup Frontier

One may argue we're a bit fatigued with the promise of 'miracle' ingredients, but as pointed out in the article above there's definitely scope for growth in the anti-ageing market, specifically in tech. HelloAva launches a chatbot for personalized skin care recommendations definitely looks promising, especially since it has the backing of juggernaut L'Oreal.

Also in the land of gadgetry, Vitaclean HQ Vitamin C Filtered Shower Head. I'm mightily intrigued by anything Vitamin C and that promises to filter out the impact of hard water for both skin and hair. It's the printer model -small initial investment, payout in the cartridges- and I'm somewhat conflicted about the inclusion of essential oils but I'd probably buying this to try if EU and UK plumbing were actually the same diameter Hmm

Just in case you've failed to notice, it's sunscreen season AKA the sun is out! SPF is a thing, right?

I have a spot ShockShock BAD skin Angry

olderthanyouthink · 21/05/2017 12:07

I'm not wearing sunscreen today, as I had to go get passport photo done and didn't feel like experimenting with make up and sunscreen

botemp · 21/05/2017 12:25

Very true, ohgoon, further taking into account the low median age in cabin crew it's even more concerning. I'm sure all the increased (body scan) security checks are probably not great on a regular base either. Always assumed personnel were exempt from those but was informed it wasn't the case... anyhow, now that I've got you springing out of lurkdom and knowing you were cabin crew you really do owe it to us to spill... Cabin crew always have the best stories Wink

nickpick, those pads are not something I'd generally rec as they may have some common irritants but I don't think you'd struggle with those. The glycolic % will be low, by my guess

olderthanyouthink · 21/05/2017 12:35

Sorry bo I'm not going outside much if it helps. I sat in my darkened flat all morning, crossed a car park to got to a supermarket and am now on the underground stopping off in the city at Deciem before getting back on to got to my aunts house... I'm basically a vampire/mole person/stereotypical developerWink

Where are you bo, NL?

botemp · 21/05/2017 13:06

Yes, NL otyt, can't you tell by my accent Wink

OP posts:
nicpick · 21/05/2017 13:22

Thanks Bo, I've used the sunscreen for the past two days even though it's cloudy, I'm determined to sort this and be make up free once again 😀. Used the pads last night and so far so good as well. My skin definitely doesn't seem as dehydrated anymore so that's good.

miffy2 · 21/05/2017 13:33

Thanks again botemp. I really like the LRP Vit C and the texture suits me but probably need it to be a bit more active and cannot abide anything with lots of silicones. Have you any recommendations for something similar in texture but with higher than 10%?

olderthanyouthink · 21/05/2017 13:33

Nee bo...

My last BF was/is Dutch, I didn't learn any polite/everyday vocab from him Wink but, he called me gek wijf and I called him kootzak (not the reason we broke up btw Grin)

I got TO Salicylic acid and the hand cream enid mentioned (from boots, cheaper). I don't think the hand cream will be one I use at work because it's slippery (annoy with keyboard).

olderthanyouthink · 21/05/2017 13:35

That should be Annoying

EnidButton · 21/05/2017 13:39

That shower head looks really interesting. Quite tempted by it although the description of the water being 'misty' is off putting. I like a good waterfall type downpour.

Bo We're on the same page with clothes this year. There's nothing around I want to buy. It's all so boxy or garish. I wanted this to be the Summer when I didn't panic when the sun came out as I'd have outfits to throw on but I can't find anything. I much much prefer Autumn/Winter clothes.

EnidButton · 21/05/2017 13:42

That's a shame older. I thought it sank in much quicker than most but I do mostly use it at night so perhaps just not noticed. On the other hand it is over priced so maybe it's a good thing you don't love it.

olderthanyouthink · 21/05/2017 13:47

Enid i won't be too upset if I don't get on with it as I don't pay full price. It will prob end up being a "on the go" one (I seriously have too many). I use a big bottle of Aveeno at night.
