Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Skin type:

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

Occasional treatments:

Things I've tried in the past with disastrous results:

Things that are really working well for me now:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I use the TO vitamin C and I don't experience pilling. I put it on a bare face and just rub it in, I usually get dressed and moisturise my body before applying serum, moisturiser and spf so there is a few minutes between the vit c and everything else!

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 19:49

Pupsie he sounds gorgeous, it saddens me when kids start showing signs of insecurities around their appearance. Could u maybe google images of cool guys with freckles? I'm thinking if he sees someone he thinks is cool, a celeb or male model etc then he may start to feel more comfortable about them??

Shop · 17/05/2017 20:14

I've been able to use TO vitamin c with no problems now I use LRP toleriane fluid in the daytime.
I really struggled with it before and hated it under makeup but after switching to the hero project vitamin c and not seeing the same results I gave it another try.
I rub it into clean bare skin, brush my teeth then LRP fluide then spf30.
Don't know what I'll do when my LRP runs out.
I emailed Facetheory asking if the formulation of the night cream has changed and explained about the pilling. They've immediately dispatched a replacement foc and asked I let them know if it's any better. Very impressed and really really hope its back to how it was.

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 20:14

Does anyone else get little beads of sweat coming out their pores after moisturising?? ConfusedHmm

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 20:15

Shop face theory's customer care is bloody amazing isn't it!

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 20:44

Yes Pupsie I do the routine once a week, Sunday night is Snail night Grin

Your son does sound gorgeous, I love freckles but can understand why a self conscious tween might not be happy about them. I don't know of anything that fades them though - maybe AHA but that might be too harsh for a 12 y.o.

Mint that glow booster is a fake tan, I have it too but didn't read the instructions realise (I thought it was just a skin brightener!) and ended up with yellow palms. So if you have any sensitivity to whatever is in fake tan (DHA??) then it will irritate.

Shop · 17/05/2017 20:49

It really is mint fingers crossed this one is better

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 21:03

User the glow booster is dha free! So goodness knows why my skin took an instant dislike!

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 21:03

I hope so shop let me know!

VictoriaandBump · 17/05/2017 21:21

Thanks for the info on the LRP dermo cleanser. Will give it a try when I finish up the Avene extremely
gentle cleanser.

I'm trying to break a very bad habit of stockpiling products. I was particularly bad at doing this with sunscreens, I hated the texture or reacted badly to so many that I had 10 in a drawer at one point! Still loving the Ultrasun family so I think my search is finally over. How do you all manage the urge to buy, do you try and use products up before buying new stuff or have a few things lying around waiting to try? I've been trying to be less impulsive and stick to what I know works instead of constantly trying new things - but it's hard!

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 22:07

Sorry Mint so it is - like I said I didn't do a very good job of reading the instructions Blush it's still a false tan though and I think they are all prone to be irritating if you're sensitive.

Victoria I'm a stock piler too, I've got much better recently but when there's a deal or offer on I'm still tempted to over purchase. I just went on to the boots website to order hylamide sub q as it's reduced - even though I have one on the go and two in reserve. Luckily it was sold out.

Has anyone used the Vit c serum or cleansing oil from Una Brennan and how do you find them? I really like her clay mask so am thinking of trying some more products from her range, though I won't purchase (stockpiling again!) till I've used up some of my current stuff.

botemp · 17/05/2017 22:34

That's a tough one, Pupsie. A skincare regime with a lot of Asian brightening ingredients (Kojic Acid, Tranexamic Acid, Licorice Root Extract, ferments, etc.) and diligent SPF use will make freckles slowly fade (and prevent new ones forming) but on the other hand, it's really a parenting dilemma. He may also not like the outcome, as you'll end up looking pretty pasty and pale, nothing wrong with that but a teenager might have another opinion on that too...

I personally also find the 12-16 yo age range difficult to navigate skincare wise, when it comes to SPF the general advice is for children to avoid certain SPF filters that can be a bit more unstable like Avobenzone, Octitoxinate, and a few others but when exactly a child stops being a child biologically is never really stated outright in skincare terms. I hold the same trepidation with certain actives, on the one hand, young skin is more resilient and will be able to bounce back from a setback far quicker without too much harm done but the natural inclination seems to baby the delicate skin at the same time. That's disregarding that teens tend not to be all that consistent or diligent, particularly with photosensitising agents- they really shouldn't be used slapdash without diligent SPF use, damage incurred in the first 20yrs pretty much dictates future skin health in large parts.

Victoria, I have a one in one out policy, but it's also down to personality really. I passed that marshmallow experiment with flying colours as a child apparently Halo. I've also had the misfortune of clearing out several deceased family members' personal things pretty much on my own as I'm the designated fixer who cleans up after everyone's shit anyhow and when you see how much useless crap people hold on to it becomes really easy to get rid of things. I do stockpile things that I use over and over again, but it's usually one, two at most if it's something that I use up quickly.

I'm pretty loyal to certain products and don't bother lusting after the new pretty thing as I rarely come out satisfied didn't mean to sound like a total pervy old man there but I totally did, didn't I? New things I am curious about I usually only seek out in sample or travel sizes and especially the last two years or so anything with a large social/press push is instantly treated with suspicion by me.

Stuff I don't get along with usually ends up on the body, speaking of, used the Bioderma Nude Touch SPF on my legs today in an effort to use it up as the colour match is off on my face and it's bloody brilliant for that. Legs look properly amazing, even covered some bruises. It's like a foundation but totally undetectable, they need to make this in larger sizes for me. It seems to be pretty good with the water resistance too as it was a bugger to get off in the shower.

Anyhow, I also keep a spreadsheet on all my purchases, I tend to have a rough budget on what I spend per month, keep track of how long a product lasts, shipping times, etc. I have a maximum number of any product I can have, eg. no more than 3 facial oils as I won't be able to use up any more than that before at least one goes rancid. All the boring stuff basically. Also, my entire skincare stash fits on an A3 tray with little subdividers. If there's no space on there, there's no space in my routine for it. The only things that don't live on there are the backups, masks, and cleansers live in the bathroom.

JDSTER · 17/05/2017 22:51

Pupsie I do 50 shades routine every couple of weeks (Sunday morning if I remember). My skin does look clearer initially but no obvious grits. No lasting effect on pores unfortunately.
lego TO vit c used every morning. Cleanse then apply to dry skin, generally just spread it around then give my skin a little pat (it's not the best at absorbing it has to be said) followed by LRP toleriane fluid. Usually wait around 20 mins while I'm drying hair, doing packed lunch etc, then spf, another 10 mins faffing then makeup
user how is glamglow? Worth the money in your opinion?

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 22:55

Ugh. What an evening. Turns out DS is being bullied by a bunch of girls in his class. Physically (pushing over, kicking) and verbal. They've been calling him ugly, and rusty (because of the freckles). All makes sense now. I knew sth was up. Bless his heart. He is such a sweetheart and sensitive soul.

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 23:00

Thanks bo. (Is there no end to your knowledge?!).

I'm also a one in one out type of person generally. I'm a natural minimalist, and have moved around a fair bit, including internationally, so that helps.

I did the oil cleaning for the SF. No grits. Will try to do it every Sunday too. I want to focus on reducing redness as well. I'm not sure whether to have a break from some actives and really focus on just that? I don't have a huge amount, and actually I wonder if I need to have my tiny thread veins zapped instead...

My Hand Chemistry hand cream arrived today - I am liking it very much!

botemp · 17/05/2017 23:04

Flowers for your dear boy, Pupsie. That sounds horrid! Being sensitive isn't easy, especially at that age. Do you have the Elaine E. Aron books?

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 23:06

Bo I love, love, love bioderma nude touch SPF. I'm lucky though as I got a pretty perfect match to my skin with the doré shade. And agree that they do need to make a bigger bottle.

JDSTER I really rated Glamglow but find the Una Brennan clay mask just as good at a quarter of the price. The Glamglow one has actives in it but as I'm using those separately anyway, I don't think it's worth paying an extra £30 to have them in a mask - and up to now the results from both masks have been temporary.

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 23:06

Thanks Bo. I've been on to a member of the school SMT and they've already emailed me back. Very impressive. They were fab when older DS had a couple of issues. I know they will sort it. I'm just so glad he opened up to me. He has a high EQ and is utterly stunning in every way.

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 23:08

Pupsie I'm so sorry about your son, that's awful Sad

Flowers for him and you.

I've used the UB Vit C oil. I much prefer the Edenens milky cleansing oil though. It's thinner so it goes further, I prefer the pump dispenser over the UB dropper bottle, it's less fragranced, & it doesn't make a mess of my sink! Plus it rinses off which the UB doesn't. Sticking with the Edenens.

RubyGoat · 18/05/2017 14:07

Sorry for short reply. Using phone on desktop site due to site issues.

mintmagnummm · 18/05/2017 14:35

Anyone here tried the clarins tanning drops for face?

Pupsiecola · 18/05/2017 15:19

I have those mint. And the body ones. I like them. Subtle, and able to control the effects.

mintmagnummm · 18/05/2017 15:36

Thanks pupsie am very tempted
