Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Thread 4 Thread 5 Thread 6

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. In order to make use of the below form and join in I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Basics of an Actives Routine

Where to Start

Anti-Ageing Info sheet

Adult Acne Info Sheet

For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Deviations on this thread are mostly my fault. Grin

If you're in need of some advice coming to grips with your skincare routine please don't hesitate to ask, we don't bite, only occasionally sting with a bit of Biologique Recherche P50 now and then Wink. Just make sure to state clearly what your concerns and needs are in as much detail as possible, skincare is highly individual and a random recommendation for a 'good' product will be completely different from one person to the next.

Make sure you've read the earlier threads (or at the very least the first one and the linked docs) so we're not being asked to answer previously raised questions. It takes a lot of time and effort to answer these queries and often the answers can be found in previous threads, but if you still have questions relating specifically to you, use the following form to make life easier on us . Please note, the form is not here to generate a routine for you, sometimes it involves product recommendations but mostly it's there so we can answer a specific question without having to go back and forth endlessly. Also, not everyone will have answers and sometimes we can't answer you at all. We're only a bunch of amateurs that can respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Skin type:

Approx age (range):

Primary skin concern:

Occasional treatments:

Any dietary/health concerns/pregnant:

What I'm willing to spend on a single skincare item: eg. >£10, £10-20, £20-50, £50-100, no limits.

I specifically [want help with/am looking for a product to/am curious about trying]:

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

LegoCaltrops Thanks, I will pick up a bottle so, always good to have a decent moisturiser on hand.

IncognitoAvocado I buy Cerave on iHerb; they don't always have everything in stock though. Their prices and shipping are decent enough. I like the PM cream and sometimes usr it in the morning under a separate SPF.

Figuier · 16/05/2017 21:55

IncognitoAvocado which video was that? I love the PM lotion and "cream in the tub" and would love to try other products. Can't see any info online about them coming to the UK Sad

IncognitoAvocado · 16/05/2017 21:59

Figuier It was the US drugstore one here. She mentions it at the end. So excited!

JDSTER · 16/05/2017 22:08

miffy yes that's the toleriane fluid. Also available on look fantastic.co.uk
incognito I got cerave from Amazon.
I've got the LRP cleanser that Dr Sam shows on her haul from US but not tried it yet

miffy2 · 16/05/2017 22:21

JDSTER where did you buy the LRP cleanser? Did you order online to the UK? Ta.

miffy2 · 16/05/2017 22:21

And thanks. I've added a toleriane to my LF basket :)

JDSTER · 16/05/2017 22:25

miffy sorry to disappoint- my colleague got it for me when she was over there. I gave her a shopping list Grin

miffy2 · 16/05/2017 22:30

Haha no worries. My DH travels to the US a lot so I'll stick it on his next shopping list.

EnidButton · 16/05/2017 23:20

I got some more Hand Chemistry handcream whilst it's still on offer and they've changed the packaging ever so slightly so you can't see into the tube any more. The sly beggars. I'll still cut it open to get my money's worth but still.

EnidButton · 16/05/2017 23:21

*cut it open at the end.

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 06:18

Thanks lego.

My skin doesn't like niacinamide either, I've tried a few moisturisers that all contain it and have had to wash them off my skin because they made me red and irritated and then I broke out. Could have just been a coincidence but I'm worried about every trying anything with nia in future.

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 08:38

Can we do a quick show of hands? Who has tried the 50 Shades of Snail oil cleansing method for pores/SF?

Has it worked for you? Did it work first time? If not, when did it work? I only tried it once and only had the EH cleansing balm. I'm going to try it again with the DHC cleansing oil. That would be better right?

ilovetocook · 17/05/2017 10:07

I've tried it twice now, never had the little bits they mention but my skin does look better. I only do it around nose and chin area with the bha and oil massage. But use the clay mask all over my face.

ilovetocook · 17/05/2017 10:08

Should add I use the DHC oil as well.

Figuier · 17/05/2017 11:05

IncognitoAvocado thanks!

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 12:01

Thanks ilove. Think I am going to try it tonight, and do it religiously once a week.

botemp · 17/05/2017 12:32

I'm not lurking, otyt, merely observing from afar in my Enid allotted time on the pout couch Wink mostly I'm just procrastinating from answering the backlog of comments I've yet to respond to here since my hair meltdown Halo

How full coverage is the coverage foundation, Olli, I'd had expected something fuller, but maybe it's just down to your preference now?

I had delayed grit action, Pupsie, so they loosened up a bit but only came out over the next few days when oil cleansing normally. I used the CosRx BHA (which was otherwise useless on me), Muji Sensitive Oil Cleanser and the Cattier white clay mask. I would caution about letting the clay mask sit for too long, I always remove clay masks as soon as the edge starts drying, if I leave to let it set it dries out the area far too much and jump starts the oil production with a vengeance. Also upped the BHA use in the days after.

Ollivander84 · 17/05/2017 12:54

It's not full coverage I wouldn't say. More medium but I did only do one layer with a damp beauty blender. I'm about to try it with one of those oval brushes so will see what happens!! Saying that when I watch YouTube videos they seem to use loads of foundation so perhaps I don't use much

My pink parcel arrived today (period beauty box) and I've got one of those coffee body scrubs (coconut scented), a rose water spritz, blusher brush and various other bits. Looking forward to trying the scrub out

wiltingfast · 17/05/2017 13:22

Pupsie, I've tried the 50 shades method, and get the little grits for a couple of days, but to be honest, I find the clay mask on its own without all the faff improves the look of my skin and I'm not sure the extra fussing is really worth it.

Also, I only have a citrus oil which also tends to sting if I use it too much/heavily so that might be impacting my view of it. (Una Brennan)

Re the chat on nia , I've used the Olay serums in the past with great success, and I understand they have nia, so I think for me, it was the sheer concentration of it in the TO formula that caused some irritation (blotchiness, skin looking stressed). Also, it's only if I use it all over my face in a prolonged way (as when trying the TO pigmentation regime) . I still use it on blemishes without any problem.

Nabootique · 17/05/2017 13:23

Bo Sorry, I was just reading through and saw that you'd asked me about the NIOD CAIS %. I use the 1%. I have read that Brandon fella as saying that it doesn't really offer a visible difference, but it's about maintaining the health of the skin, and so being more preventative, so I'm not surprised that not everyone gets a visible result. I read quite a few reviews where people said they did have though, then many saying that they didn't, but they didn't expect to. The negative reviews were from those who seemed to expect a visible result but didn't get it (understandably). I think it boils down to either getting a visible result, or putting your faith in the product that it is doing something even if you can't see it.

RubyGoat · 17/05/2017 17:18

Mint - I definitely think my skin doesn't like niacinamide. I was using the SVR Sensifine moisturiser, which has it in, & I never quite got on with it. I recently switched to Avene Hydrance, as I wanted to start using vitamin C, & my skin improved as soon as I switched. I don't think it's a coincidence.

Pupsie - I've done the 50 shades BHA method - it only works for me if I use the COSRX BHA. I tried with the PC BHA first, no luck, so I switched. But I prefer the PC BHA for nightly use. Much lighter, less sticky. It has a watery texture, as opposed the the thin runny gel texture of the COSRX.

Anyone who uses the TO Vitamin C - please could you tell me exactly what you do with it, how long you need to wait afterwards before applying anything else, if you can rub in further products or if they need to be patted on. Etc. I'm using the TO MAP at present but I suspect it won't last long, it doesn't seem to go very far & the plain Vit C seemed to be a more economical option, albeit a lot less convenient. I work shifts - could I perhaps use the MAP on mornings when I'm rushing, & the Vit C when I've more time? Just wondering really...

Olli - if you have any Lancome Teint Idole in 008 left (you had a tester tube I believe) I'd be interested in a shade & coverage comparison with the TO foundation. I've just bought the Lancome foundation (& really love it) but it's pricey.

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 18:57

Pupsie I've done the 50 shades method 3 times now.
2 x with TO SA and Una Brennan clay mask
1x with TO SA and Glamglow supermud
No grits at any point (and my pores are most definitely blocked, I have loads of SF)
Skin does look clearer immediately afterwards but only lasts for a couple of days & the masks on their own give the same results for me, adding SA and oil cleansing doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm persevering with the full routine for another few weeks in the hope it might have a culminative effect and I may one day see some grits!

userallusedup · 17/05/2017 19:03

Lego I use TO Vit c, I apply on bare skin in the morning followed by Deciem hylamide sub q serum, sunscreen and makeup. I use the sub q more or less straight away, but usually brush my teeth before sunscreen and do my hair before makeup so probably 5 mins between those steps. I don't keep my Vit c in the fridge and just rub it in. I also rub in the sub q and sunscreen, no patting. I've never had any problems with it pilling etc but think JDSTER and I are possibly the only ones here who don't.

mintmagnummm · 17/05/2017 19:38

Arrrrrrrrgh!! Bought the hylamide glow booster today as it was half price, used it this eve (mixed few drops with my night cream) and my skin is not happy! Angry

Pupsiecola · 17/05/2017 19:45

Thanks user. About to try it in a minute. Are you doing it once a week?

DS2 (12) is getting really self-conscious about his freckles, to the point of googling how to get rid of them. He has mid brown hair and pale to medium skin. His hair is like mine - has copper in it in certain light. He has a few freckles on his nose and cheeks. Not loads. He looks beautiful regardless. Has the most amazing big blue eyes. I don't want him worrying. I've told him SPF is super important for looking at his skin and I've just ordered him an AB SPF. What, if anything, can I use to try to minimise the freckles? I don't want to make a thing of it though so I'm loathe to try anything. But I also want to listen to his concerns, and encourage him to look after his skin. So tricky with kids.
