Mulberry bag

DH bought me a 'lily' for my birthday, it's one I've wanted for a long time but never thought I would actually ever get it. However, I am now worried about using it and somehow ruining it. I bought the spray that was recommended and so it's been treated.

When I told my DSis of my 'worries' she replied with this: 'Bullshit Pony. Take it. Love it. Live it. That's what will make it your bag. Otherwise leave it in the shop and sniff it once a year.' I know she's right.

I suppose what I'm asking is, if you have one, how do you look after it - & are there any tips for keeping it in good condition??

I have a mulberry bag and I use it like any other handbag. It was a present from DH for a special birthday and I've used it every day since, no special products or treatments. My reasoning is that I want to enjoy using it and not worry about it so that I never use it. Plus it's good quality leather so a bit of wear will add character

I treat mine (it's a bayswater) every few months with the leather cream they sell in store and am careful not to bang it etc. it does have a few little scuffs now (had it for nearly two years) but that's ok. It's a bag, it's meant to get used. When I'm not using it I keep it in its dust bag stuffed with paper.

Ps - brace yourself for the "how can you have a bag that's so expensive" comments - mulberry attracts that on MN!

Mine looks very very good and is about 8 years old. It is abused - chucked on floors and on the wet ground, played with by children and I chuck lunch, make up and pens in there with very little regard. The lining is a little dirty and the metal work a little scuffed but the leather is perfect. Mine has never been sprayed.

I have the lily in fuscia pink.

I use it loads. No special care really, I spray it occasionally with leather protector.

I have 3 Mulberry bags and always have one in use as my everyday bag, to my mums horror. I reckon cost per wear I get better value than her 'naice' bag that only sees the light of day 2 or 3 times a year if that.

I have a large Bayswater. I use it as my every day bag. I don't look after it at all and it looks fine, not like when it was brand new, but it looks good.

It's the perfect sized bag for me - I don't want to keep it on a shelf, so if it gets worn - I am not bothered.

I have a couple of Mulberry evening bags that I keep in the fabric bags because I only use them infrequently.

Mine is well and truely used and abused but I think they look better with each scuff and scratch. Absolutely use it and love it!

You can buy a nice leather conditioner - colonil(sp?) is recommended by Mulberry. I have a mini kite and use it frequently. I dont dump it on the floor because it is a thing of beauty and I don't want to wreck it but I do use it. Otherwise, what is the point of having it?

I have the creme rather than the spray. Didn't realise they were the same thing.

My son ruined mine by helpfully dragging it across the (tiled) kitchen floor and scratched the badge. I still use it daily though.

IMO there's no point having it if you're going to treat it like a museum exhibit.

Oh. They recommended the spray (John Lewis) & didn't mention the cream, I may look into getting this.

I've got 6 bags and a purse Blush

They are all different leathers so all require different treatment. The lady who runs this website knows her stuff and has given me loads of advice, I highly recommend asking her for help!

Do you have the special spray for it? I was the same with my Del Rey- I was that mental I'd repack it with the stuffing and put it back in dustbag every single night after use!

But that spray kept it looking brand new, if it rained the water just ran off the leather. Use it, you'll regret just keeping it in the bag! They're expensive BECAUSE they're so well made and they'll last and last!

Second the love lolo recommendation. I bought a felt liner and some leather cream from her to give my oak Bayswater a bit of TLC - worked a treat!

OP - I also bought a felt liner for my lily (not from Lovelolo, but off Etsy) and they really help to keep their shape and protect the interior

The Colonil spray and the cream do different things. I suggest you use the spray on it first as it will make it water repellent. After a few months, if the leather is starting to look a little dry or if you have any scuffs on it, use the cream and buff it all over the bag. Then spray it once the cream has sunk in.

If you use cream and spray regularly it will keep much better although they are made to last. If it's not in use for a longer period then stuff it and put it in the dust bag.

I agree the bags should be used and enjoyed but it's just common sense to look after them. I once saw a woman at the airport with the most battered Bayswater - all dried out and scratched with the flaps curling up. No idea what she'd done to get it looking like that. I could have cried!

I had to laugh at a restaurant once as I'd put my croc print Cecily on an empty chair next to me when a waitress asked to use the chair at another table. Then when she saw the bag that was on it she insisted on leaving the chair where it was! DH was completely baffled that a handbag should receive such treatment!

Use it, enjoy it but if you look after it properly you'll have many more years' enjoyment out of it!

Don't worry about the cream, it's not necessary. If anything it might darken the leather. The waterstop spray is sufficient. Give it a good spray (outside, because it's really noxious!), wait a few minutes, then buff with a soft cloth. Repeat once or twice a year.

I'm not surprised you could feed a village in Africa for a year on the price of one of those Confused if it were me I'd keep it locked in a glass cabinet away from sticky fingers and muddy car foot wells. I stick to my £10 primarni as I'm a disaster at Looking after any handbag!.
There are loads of products though you can buy to keep it in shape Iv heard.

I've used my Mulberry every day for 5 years never treated it with anything and it looks great. The curled up one will have been a fake.
