Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

Oh apologies, I didn't realise the critique was only allowed one way. As you were.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 14/04/2017 13:36

Well, shudder away user. I like seeing the different colours, textures and styles and quirky jewellery. Even if its not all my particular style, I think the variety's great.

Meanwhile, its comic con everyday Chez Frye and Ive used a bit of birthday money to buy this hoody Ive been eyeing up for months. Think ill wear it with my emerald green skinnies and black frock coat.

I love the adverts that are coming up on my kindle after clicking on the links on this thread! Smile

Asmoto · 14/04/2017 14:00

Jacob That hoodie is gorgeous! It looks very easy to wear as well.

lasttimeround · 14/04/2017 14:20

Lovely thread. I was going to say that I'm pared back but quirky and then I Google docs mori girl. That's me!!! Thank you. I didn't realise it had a name.

lasttimeround · 14/04/2017 14:22

Oh snd I love everyone's different styles. Breath of fresh air. If anyone knows how to make steam punk work in the real world please please post pics. I'd love to give that a go but beibf very curvy, quite short and in my 40s I don't know how.

JaneJeffer · 14/04/2017 14:33

This is my type of thing. I don't like flouncy stuff. This website has a lot of different looks www.notdressedaslamb.com

this style thread is definitely more for me than some others ive seen. Good stuff.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 14/04/2017 14:50

Jacob, love that hoodie! It looks like it would work with lots of things. I was browsing eBay last light for inspiration and there was one particular seller who had a lot of per Una maxi skirts as part of a steampunk look. It really worked! I think it helps to be able to see the potential.

Floisme · 14/04/2017 14:51

I look better in clothes with a bit of structure so full on mori or lagenlook wouldn't work for me. I like pared back but with just like a hint of something unexpected. That's why that barbed wire necklace is calling me - provided it looks like a normal silver necklace until you see it close up. I have some team punk jewellery e.g. a ring a bit like this and I'm also partial to a skull T shirt but I wear it with a tailored jacket.

I quite like this jacket too because the shape and colour are very classic. But I'd wear with jeans or a pencil skirt and I'd prefer the lacing to just be either up the back or up the sides, not both. But then I'm pretty tame these days.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 14/04/2017 15:11

I had never heard of Mori girl. Its very outdoorsy and pretty. Love all the layers and softness

lasttime if I was curvy Id go for an Eva Green Penny dreadful sort of look with that jacket that Floisme linked to.

My people!

happy sigh

lasttimeround · 14/04/2017 15:32

Hmm maybe mori girl isn't quite me. The initial things I found had that pared down thing I really like but then there's a bit too much cutesy softness. I like quirk rather than frill. And I'm not interested in cute either. I'm really not a cute type person.
It's great to see different pictures. I'd love to see real life different styles posted. I'll post some of mine later.

babyinarms · 14/04/2017 15:42

I used to have a hippy / flowy vibe when I was younger but over the years have become very mainstream. I still wear my doc boots and skinny jeans .... I don't have a tailored wardrobe by any stretch. ... just a boring one! . Lie the sites I'm seeing....getting inspired again. I'm mid 40s and feel I need to express myself again. Thanks for this thread !!

TheGoodEnoughWife · 14/04/2017 15:51

Jacob that hoodie is lovely. Where from?

ADisappearingDreamOfYesterday · 14/04/2017 15:53

Oh yes we love Comic Con in this house too!

This is the sort of look I love and aspire to...

Currently wondering whether I can justify the cost of this t-shirt.

I have this cyberdog sweatshirt which I love, it gets so many smiles :) (and I discovered when I wore it to a party that it flouresces in uv)

Sadik · 14/04/2017 17:38

That wall&jones twisted skirt is amazing - this thread could be so bad for my bank balance Grin

Whirltime · 14/04/2017 18:18

I love doc martens not the one colour ones the unusual ones I already have a bright pink pair and a burgundy with flowers on. It's a big birthday for me on 23rd and dh has just ordered me ninja turtle ones I am so excited.

mimiasovitch · 14/04/2017 18:45

I've read all of this thread now. Whilst the flouncy layered look isn't for me, I hate the idea that I shouldn't wear colours or prints because they don't look someone's idea of expensive. I also can't fathom why I should want to look French? I am Welsh and I live life in full technicolour! And beige makes me look dead. I also love a wrap dress as they suit me, and just because they're deemed frumpy doesn't mean I'm prepared to wear something chiccer (chicer?) that makes me look like pants. Now, wear can I find a skirt like that Gabrielle Parker one? The grey is out of stock but I LOVE it.

Tanaqui · 14/04/2017 19:10

I LOVE the pleated/belted scarf in your second pic Jacob.

I am less outre than many of you, but I do love colour, and contrast, and polished isn't me!

Tanaqui · 14/04/2017 19:11

Skirt, not scarf! Stupid phone!

RandomWordsandaNumber5 · 14/04/2017 20:25

I love colour too. I'm late 50s and had a work life in very corporate clothes so feel that I'm let out to play now! I've started making my own clothes and what a joy that is - I buy fabric and make the most satisfying creations. I realise that this is not for all but have you considered this?
