Thought I'd start a thread for anyone who finds capsule wardrobes in muted tones tedious as feck.

Ditto little diamond studs and designer bags with glossy bobs.

I personally admire the style of Alys Fowler and Helena Bonham-Carter.

Also love a bit of Gudrun/Lagenlook and other cheerful offerings.

A successful charity shop rummage is a joy to behold. I like messy hair, well -loved clothes and making my own stuff too.

Anyone else?

I love the camo jacket but I can't wear that type of collar for some reason doesn't look right on me. I really need to sort out my clothes after reading this thread. Short of cash for anything new though

NevermetaGilesIlike · 18/04/2017 03:04

Found this blog and had to share the quirky loveliness....

www.ivyarch.co.uk/

This makes me want to learn how to use a sewing machine.

I also offer some Gudrun fabulousness....

Ooh who doesn't love a bit of Gudrun Smile

Their clothes remind me of the hippy skirts in the 90s, long with fringes and little mirrors all over them

This thread has reminded me I was wearing a big velvet hat when I met DH. For ages we didn't actually know what each other looked like, my face was hidden under the hat and I was too drunk to recognise his face sober Grin I still have the hat and occasionally wear it to embarrass my children

WannabeHippyChick · 18/04/2017 09:55

I love your hat story, Dream! x

I love this thread! I have to look smart for uni (medical student on clinical placements) so mostly wear straight skirts or ankle-skimming slacks and shirts, and I don't mind as I like feeling appropriately dressed for the situation. It's definitely not 'me' though, and at home I'm slowly trying to build up a brilliant bright wardrobe - I'm fed up after years of living in black to 'hide' unsuccessfully being overweight. I'm doing KonMari and realised a couple of months ago that I actually hate virtually all my clothes. I've always been drawn to bright colours and patterns but too scared to wear them. So I finally thought fuck it Grin.

My favourite new acquisition is a bright sunflower yellow linen tunic with orange flowers on it and a bubble hem that I've so far worn with leggings, with grey jeans and with purple tights and it looks brilliant with all of them. And these sandals in pic which I LOVE even if they are crocs.

I'm a bit stuck in maternity clothes at the moment but I'm so excited to start replacing all my sensible boring things!!

Not loving that Gudrun stuff, sorry, but did used to love my floppy velvet hats in 1989! I used to wear them with two long plaits, like Pocahontas, crushed velvet dresses and DMs.

NevermetaGilesIlike · 18/04/2017 15:34

I like the look but would do it sparingly personally re Gudrun.

Gudron's not my thing either but it looks great on some people and I think the beauty of this thread is that it's a reminder of how many different ways there are of looking stylish. It's also good to see what other looks are out there because most of them are ignored by the fashion media.

BlossomCat · 18/04/2017 23:38

Thanks to finding this thread last week, I pulled out my wardrobe, and wore a lot of stuff that I normally reject on a day to day basis as they are too 'out there'
This weekend, I've embraced my inner art teacher, and I've loved it! Grin

BillywigSting · 19/04/2017 10:28

Absolutely loving this thread, some fab inspiration.

Love emp!

Embracing my inner mori girl. It's so comfy and so pretty.

Today I have a long sleeve taupe t-shirt under a cheesecloth blouse with 3/4 bell sleeves and a loose white lace dress over the top and a light brown lace waistcoat /gillet thing, tights the same colour as the t shirt and brown hiking style boots with wooly cuffs.

A headband made of gold coloured metal in the shape of leaves, a brown leather watch with a pearl acorn charm, gold ear cuff and a necklace with two strings and pearls and a string of cream crocheted flowers. A few pink silk roses are stopping everything from flapping about too much.

I have a massive grey wooly poncho as a coat of a brown leather handbag.

I feel very floaty and put together in a 'meadow-y' sort of way.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 19/04/2017 11:11

Id love to see all those details Billy. It sounds so pretty.

Wrt to Gudruns - not my thing but my MIL wears it and looks great.

There was a Dr Martens sale last night. I forget who linked to the TMNT pair but they were reduced.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/04/2017 11:21

Love the sound of your watch, Billy.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 19/04/2017 12:14

I have a couple of Gudrun tops which are very floaty but I pair them with skinny jeans and a blazer. The quality is very good.

Love the sound of the mori-style outfit, billy. I saw some lovely acorn pendants on etsy the other day which I was very tempted by. Instead, I've bought an ornate key one which has a bit of a steampunk vibe.

I've also come across this shop which makes the most beautiful skirts:

www.etsy.com/uk/listing/505181231/bazin-maxi-skirt-africa-printed-maxi?ref=shop_home_active_8

Sadly, I think I'm probably a bit too short to be able to carry them off.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/04/2017 12:23

Dr martens sale? Where? On their site? Mine have holes in and really need new ones.

Floisme · 19/04/2017 12:36

Great outfit billy. I so wish I could still do floaty and wafty but my body is floaty enough all on its own.

Those skirts are stunning boldly - too long for me too although I see they do knee length ones. I'd really love a fitted shirt (western style: collar, long sleeves etc) in that kind of fabric. I got one a couple of years ago on Brixton Market but it's a boy's shirt and the fit isn't quite right.

These are great www.drmartens.com/uk/p/originals-boots-virginia-darken-suede-hazil but I only ended up replacing the DSes shoes. DS1 is adamant he will wear butes and only butes.

Greenifer · 19/04/2017 14:08

What a lovely thread. I like quirky things too and just don't get the beige thing at all! And I don't want a capsule wardrobe. I want an overflowing pirate chest.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/04/2017 14:56

Thanks, Jacob. I've just ordered a pair of those boots.

BillywigSting · 19/04/2017 15:08

Thanks flo boldly remus and jacob. Would never have put it all together without this thread.

I may well also be a bit too wobbly to pull it off quite like the tiny little Japanese girls on pinterest but I still like it. Feels very gentle without being boring or stuffy (or scruffy).

Wish i had skinny enough legs to wear DMs Sad >fatty

lasttimeround · 19/04/2017 19:03

Sounds staying Billy.

lasttimeround · 19/04/2017 19:04

Amazing I mean

BroomstickOfLove · 19/04/2017 19:43

I'm a fatty and my legs are far from skinny, but I wear DMs all the time.

NevermetaGilesIlike · 19/04/2017 19:53

Agree. You don't have to be thin for DMs. I like the 14 hole ones personally. Good worn under looser cut jeans that are folded up and great over skinny ones.

I am contemplating a pair at the mo 🙂

Whirltime · 19/04/2017 20:22

It was me who linked to the TMNT dms I got them in sale £50 instead of £125 they arrived this morning I absolutely love them them. I know own 3 pairs of dms.
Also agree you don't need to be thin for dms I am no where near thin and still look good in them.

CateGory8 · 19/04/2017 20:48

I was thinking of these but I missed them at the sale price of £55. DM Mae Temperley. Not sure I can justify yet another pair of DM's as I own over 15 pairs, I may well be a collector.
