Really lovely posh lipstick for a special treat

Hi ladies,

After a few very busy weeks at work and home I fancy treating myself to a posh lipstick. I want something fairly neutral/ pink. Not too beige because my lips are quite pink naturally so beige lipsticks make me look a bit ill. Would prefer a neutral kind of colour because if I'm going to spend £££ on a lipstick I want to be able to wear it loads and I'm a bit scared of bright lipstick (although I always think they look fantastic on other peopl). Also I have dry lips so need something actively moisturing. Definitely not matte. Been thinking about the YSL shine one in the gorgeous packaging, but not sure whether to go for it or not. What would you lovely ladies recommended? 😀

MAC viva glam 2 is the ultimate "your lips but better" shade in my opinion. A dry lippy but not too dry, so it stays on for ages without having to re apply it.

Another vote for chantecaille. The textures are gorgeous. Lotus is a lovely browny pink. Just a little darker than my natural lips.

Mac twig is another nice optio. But less luxe.

Wrap - so you think Tom Ford are worth the £££? Think there is a counter near me so might go and have a look. Have never had anything from Tom Ford. Not sure if there is a marc Jacobs counter near me (Liverpool)

I like Chanel lipsticks Grin
I can't afford Chanel but my lovely DiL is a manager at a big store that shall remain unamed and brings me bags of expensive makeup and £100 face creams I could only dream off that are only going to be chucked out.
I told my son he must never ever leave her :-)

stoplickingthetelly · 05/04/2017 21:00

Is frog prince the green one that turns pink? Never had anything from chantecaille, and totally would never have thought of them. Off to Google if they have a counter near me.

Thanks ladies for all your wonderful suggestions. Spoilt for choice now. Maybe I'll have to get two 😁😁

Mermaid I agree he must keep her forever! Talk about perks of the job (thinks to self - I'm definitely in the wrong job)

Do you find Chanel lipsticks drying?

I have a Chanel one that's a lovely shade but it's definitely not as moisturising or long lasting as the Estée Lauder or YSL ones I mentioned upthread. Same with the Lancôme in love ones- great staying power and colours but slightly drying on me.

stoplickingthetelly · 05/04/2017 21:37

Think I might go and try a few colours at ysl then. I definitely need something moisturising. I doesn't matter how much water I drink or what lip balm I use my lips are always dry.

Chanel adrienne is my favourite nude but not my favourite packaging - I'd agree with Tom Ford but haven't found a perfect shade for me yet.

clapintime · 06/04/2017 07:33

Chanel Mademoiselle is my treat lipstick

Talisin · 06/04/2017 08:57

I agree with all the Besame love up thread but they are more stand out lipsticks than neutrals. My current favourite for 'I'm wearing lipstick but it's not the first thing you notice' is Charlotte Tilbury's K.I.S.S.I.N.G Valentine special ed. It's described as rose petal pink although I'd say more salmon. It's quite creamy as well so doesn't dry out lips. The other thing I'd suggest is MAC's Prep and Prime for lips - it'll give your lipstick more longevity, plus moisture.

FrustratedFrugal · 06/04/2017 09:06

I have lots of Chanel and Nars and Armani as everyday lipsticks but YSL Rouge Pur Couture #1 is my special occasion one.

Badders123 · 06/04/2017 10:34

Was going to suggest Estée Lauder rose tea! 😀

EnidButton · 06/04/2017 14:23

Chanel rouge coco shine.

Not drying, perfect amount of shine without being shiny, pigmented enough that you can layer it on to get the look you want, nice weighty tube with a good 'click'.

They're my favourites. Also really like YSL rouge volupte shine lipsticks, you can't beat the look of their tubes, gorgeous, and the formula is very creamy.

Google for swatches.

EnidButton · 06/04/2017 14:26

And for dry lips you need lansinoh lanolin (nipple balm). Trust me. Slap loads on at night and it'll sort out dry lips in no time.

Surprisingly, I've found Maybelline babylips balm to be a brilliant primer for lipstick and great for freshening lipstick up when applied over the top. The yellow tubed clear one works best for this.

stoplickingthetelly · 06/04/2017 16:03

Thanks for all the advice ladies. Ioas to choose from. Never thought about putting nipples cream on my lips, but it actually makes sense! Think I might still have some hanging around somewhere, will try and dig it out x

@Badders123 it's my new fav so creamy

Badders123 · 06/04/2017 16:53

I'm not a lipstick fan and I love it - glad you do too 👍🏻

Sciurus83 · 06/04/2017 17:45

Ysl rouge volupte are gorgeous, not very long lasting but have a lovely mango scent and glossy finish, I'm planning my next purchase in a pink shade. Charlotte Tilbury are nice, I prefer K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula to matte revolution (not a traditional matte but still quite drying imo) I have bitch, perfect which is a browny nude which I love and have been wearing non stop. Not as long lasting but lovely formula are chanel rouge coco, my face is Celine in that range, really nice nude, though I had my eye on Boy but that one is a glossier formula that wasn't as long lasting. You can never go wrong with Clarins, everything I've had from them has been lovely. I feel like frog prince is a bit of a gimmick, I had one of those when I was a kid and definitely wasn't paying £25 for the privilege! Tom Ford have some beautiful colours but I can't quite bring myself to go to that spend level on lipstick (never say never Wink)

stoplickingthetelly · 06/04/2017 21:02

Celine and Adrienne both look lovely. Just been having a look at some swatches of boy which looks good too. Not too worried about it being really long lasting as long as it's not drying. I'm probably very unfashionable, but I'm not overly keen on the trend for very matte lipstick anyway x

I really love the Chanel Rouge Coco Shine. They're pretty sheer, but definitely buildable.
My fave is Monte Carlo :)

Another vote for Dior addict lipsticks, I have 5 different shades and Bobo or Vintage are lovely neutral colour
