That a coloured pattern on a white background is ok for a wedding?

Summer wedding in Italy. I don't want sweaty polyester.

Dress

I feel there should be some kind of international agreement on this issue.

I would think so.

Then again, I'm planning off white trousers with a coloured top for a wedding next week, so maybe not the best person to ask...

taybert · 03/04/2017 14:30

I wouldn't bat an eyelid if someone wore it to my wedding but then I've been surprised at responses on similar threads in the past.

Op that dress is perfect, what way are you going to style it? I like a fascinator but I hear they are frowned on round these parts Grin

LorLorr2 · 03/04/2017 14:38

Could you bring a sheer airy sort of shrug/cover-up in navy (or any colour) so you aren't a vision in white if you do get second thoughts while you're out there?
I just always like to give myself back-up haha.
Lovely dress, can imagine it in the Italian heat!

taybert · 03/04/2017 14:45

Well, I was thinking I might go for an actual blue hat which may also shade my face from the blistering sun since it's outside in the early afternoon..... I'm also going to need something covering my arms if I am to keep any skin on them so I'll go for blue rather than white.

TweedAddict · 03/04/2017 14:48

I think it's too white for a wedding sorry

mummypig14 · 03/04/2017 14:49

Too white imo

LorLorr2 · 03/04/2017 14:51

That sounds lovely.

I imagine something like these except lighter blue to match the flowers on the dress

Oh yes a blue hat would be amazing. I really like the bow detail on the back.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 03/04/2017 14:55

I don't think there is quite enough pattern on the front tbh....it needs to be more flowers/blue (like the back!)

however I am not up on Italian wedding etiquette so it might be alright.

Thatextrainch · 03/04/2017 14:57

I also think it's a bit too white for a wedding

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2017 15:05

Would this be better?

Someone wore similar at my wedding. They looked great. And so did I!

taybert · 03/04/2017 15:20

Yeah, I saw the other one but it's a more casual print and I prefer the print on the first one. I'm thinking maybe it could be one where the position of the print is different on each dress so I might order it and see how it looks in the flesh.

robinia · 03/04/2017 15:23

It looks beautiful and I do think there is enough pattern on it. Accessorise carefully and it will be perfect.

taybert · 03/04/2017 15:40

I'll leave the veil at home Wink

OP posts:
SpookyPotato · 03/04/2017 15:42

I think that's totally fine, not wedding dressy at all.

SpookyPotato · 03/04/2017 15:42

But yeah a navy hat and accessories would look good!

gaaahhhh · 03/04/2017 15:44

I wouldn't ever risk wearing white to someone's wedding personally. It's a lovely dress tho.

gaaahhhh · 03/04/2017 15:45

Actually if I was going to that psycho Welsh wedding that there has been a couple of threads about I might wear white to that one!!😂

wineoclockthanks · 03/04/2017 17:13

Lorlorr where are those from please? I've been looking for something similar

Laska5772 · 03/04/2017 19:16

I think the other day people were saying this mainly white dress was fine for a wedding, so I reckon your original choice should be also - its lovely BTW

taybert · 03/04/2017 20:22

DH says too white. And I actually have to go with him. And he knows the couple better than me. Dammit.

hahahaIdontgetit · 03/04/2017 20:25

It's a beautiful dress and not remotely bridal. It's perfect for an Italian wedding.

MrsLettuce · 03/04/2017 20:51

How about this? It has sleeves against the sun but looks lovely and light. It's viscose mind.

Good viscose is fantastic stuff to wear. It is a synthetic (well, a semi-synthetic actually) but because it's made from wood cellulose rather than plastic like polyester it has a lot of the qualities of natural fibers.
