Hair opinions please (with pics)

I've been trying to grow my hair but yesterday got fed up and had about 2 inches cut off and more layering. I always end up regretting it.
What do you think? Honest opinions of which looks better (please excuse face obscuring, but hopefully you can get the general idea of face shape/ hair type etc etc).

Ilostit - thank you. I know there are more important things to worry about but I do have hang ups about my hair and psychological problems related to it... so always grateful for some reasoned advice from MN.

My mum always used to tell me my hair looked awful whenever I got back from the hairdresser throughout my 20s, which meant I didn't get it cut for years and still feel quite nervous when venture into a salon.

I understand the salon nerves. For me, going to get my haircut is like going to the dentist, I hate every minute of it. I thought it was just me!

The shorter one can look younger if you style it up with more texture, a few loose waves (I use sea salt spray). Such a pretty colour OP.

Oh you look lovely, lovely OP. So pretty. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with looking 46 (I am 46) you look a lot younger.

My hair is the same length as yours was and I am trying to grow it too.
Hideous in between right now, not a bob, not long. So it's in a mum bun!

I think you look lovely in all three pictures, but think the shortest version in the middle picture especially suits you.

A vote here for the shorter version although both are lovely.

Shorter suits the shape of your face better I think. It frames your bone structure. I would just try to add a little lift / volume on the top, but not too much. It's a nice colour too.

Someone mentioned that upthread. I once tried to work shape out the way they tell you in magazines etc (drawing around your face on a mirror) but it didn't help any!

With your face showing, the shorter one looks better - but I would be tempted to go even shorter, so it looks deliberately short IYSWIM
